The Deal With Edward

The shrill ring of the phone startled Edward from his deep contemplation. He squinted at the caller ID, only to find an unknown number flashing on the screen.

"Hello?" Edward answered the phone.

"Are you looking for me?" A voice, that Edward recognized immediately, came from the other end of the line, sending shivers down his spine.

Not long ago, Edward had never experienced the feeling that his life was completely in the hands of others. So, naturally, he remembered the owner of this voice very clearly.

"Mr. Jack," Edward quickly said in a respectful tone, "I'm looking for you for some personal matters."

"Personal matters?" Jack chuckled softly, "Well, well, well, this sounds intriguing. If you want, we can meet and discuss in detail. This might be better."

"Yes, please. If you can't get away or don't believe me, you can choose the place and time, and I can go there alone."

"Sure, why don't we meet at your office, right now?" Jack replied with a mischievous tone, "Now, open the door."

Edward didn't react for a moment until the door of the office was knocked three times. He jumped up and went to open the door cautiously.

"Jack... Mr. Jack?" Edward asked in disbelief as he found Jack standing at his doorstep.

To his surprise, Jack was standing alone without any entourage.

"How did you get in?" Edward asked inquisitively.

"Don't worry, Edward. I have my ways," Jack said with a smirk, "Are we sure we want to talk at the door?"

"Please come in, Mr. Jack. I'm sorry, I was just surprised," Edward said as he stepped aside to let him in.

As soon as Jack entered the room, he took a quick scan of the surroundings, noticing the heavy security in place.

"Don't be too cautious, Edward. I promise, I won't hurt you," Jack said with a playful grin.

"So, tell me, what did you spend a fortune on to find me?" Jack inquired, raising an eyebrow.

"Well, Mr. Jack," Edward began, "I have some exciting news to share. We've held a board meeting and decided to reduce the prices of our drugs. Once we get the green light from the Drug Administration, we'll implement the change."

"Excellent," Jack nodded, his interest piqued. "And what's the trouble that you're facing?"

"I've been thinking," Edward said, "After the assassination attempt from Mason, I realized that my current security guards were not effective. I'm worried that other companies will try to harm me if they feel threatened by my new drug prices."

Jack nodded in agreement, "I understand your concerns. You want me to provide you with protection."

"Yes, Mr. Jack, you are truly a brilliant mind," Edward smiled, relieved that Jack understood the gravity of the situation.

"I used to sell genuine medicines through regular channels, but the high prices gave other companies an edge. Now, if I lower the prices, it might create a sense of desperation among my competitors, and they may come after me," Edward explained.

"I get it," Jack said, "You're worried they may unite and hire someone to assassinate you. Don't worry, I'll protect you."

Edward breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you, Mr. Jack. I'll make it worth your while."

Jack raised his hand to stop Edward's words. "Hold on, there's no need for any rewards. I'll help you because it's the right thing to do. But I do have one condition - let's change the way you're asking me for help."

Edward was perplexed, "What do you mean, Mr. Jack?"

Jack tapped his finger on the desk and leaned forward, "What I mean is, we need to find another way for me to help you."

He continued, "I am a Templar Knight, Mr. Edward. I fight to protect order and justice against assassins and killers who seek to destroy it."

Edward nodded slowly, trying to comprehend what Jack was saying. "I see. So, what can we do to protect me and my company from those who wish to harm us?"

Jack's eyes gleamed with a fierce determination, "You, as the president and chairman of the Edward Group, have decided to reform your company and lower the prices of the drugs to normal levels, in order to follow the law and maintain order."

"But, your competetors who have lost their morals and disrupted the order, will do anything to retaliate against you. They will seek out the dark minions of the underground world and pay them a hefty sum to assassinate you, all to maintain their own interests and destroy the order."

"So, you came to me, a Templar Knight, to ask for help in protecting the order. And as you offer a reward for the Holy Knights to assist you in this noble cause, you choose to pay..."

Jack trailed off with a sly smile, looking at Edward who was completely stunned. "Mr. Edward?"

Edward shook his head, trying to snap out of his daze. "Uh, yes, sorry."

Edward never expected that the deal between himself and Jack could escalate to such heights! What started as a simple protection gig had now turned into a full-blown battle for the preservation of order. It was a world of difference from his initial expectations, and Edward was impressed.

"As the witness and requester of the affairs I mentioned earlier, how much are you willing to pay for it?" Jack asked, cutting straight to business.

Edward thought for a moment before quoting the highest price he could afford.

"I'm willing to double whatever reward they offered you and add another one million dollars as a pre-payment. Consider it a small token of my appreciation for your efforts in protecting order."

"You're very generous, Mr. Edward," Jack said, impressed. "The Templars thank you for your dedication to safeguarding order."

Edward couldn't help but feel a twinge of pride at the compliment.

"As a small token of my gratitude, I'll make sure to deal with those despicable people who disrupted the order for you," Jack said, offering a small smile.

"I appreciate that," Edward replied, feeling grateful for Jack's dedication to his cause. "I have full confidence in your abilities to protect order."

With that settled, Jack left, leaving Edward to his own thoughts.
