A True Genius

"Jack, we've got a serious situation!" Stephan's urgent tone cut through the tranquility of the early morning as Jack answered the call.

"Stay calm," Jack responded composedly. "What's going on?"

"Headquarters has sent over the test questions!" Stephan exclaimed excitedly.

"Well, that sounds like a good thing," Jack remarked.

"They've sent fifty copies!" Stephan's voice crackled with tension.

Jack's silence spoke volumes.

...

"Fifty copies?" Jack echoed incredulously as they convened in the office.

"More precisely, fifty-four," Stephan clarified. "It's the mastery knowledge you provided on the registration form... I'm not sure why, but they've sent over that many!"

"This could still work," Jack mused confidently. "Let's tackle these questions head-on. The sooner, the better. I'm raring to go."

"That's fifty-four questions!" Stephan's skepticism was palpable as he wondered if Jack had truly grasped the magnitude of the task. "And each one delves into different areas of expertise! Are you sure you're ready for this?"

"Do you know what they've asked me?" Jack interjected.

"Well... no, I don't," Stephan admitted, scratching his head. "Even you'll need to sign a confidentiality agreement before diving into them..."

Despite being in charge of the entire mecha designer department at the Jinmen branch, Stephan's position didn't grant him access to such privileged information.

"In that case, there's no point in fretting over it. We'll just have to tackle them as they come," Jack shrugged nonchalantly. "Besides, do you really think I need to prepare?"

Stephan chuckled awkwardly, rubbing his head. It was a conundrum—if he agreed, it would imply he doubted Jack's abilities; if he disagreed, it would come off as arrogance.

Perhaps Jack could confidently assert such things, but Stephan knew better than to make such claims himself.

"Alright then, follow me," Stephan led Jack to a room with slightly more advanced technology. Instead of the computer Jack used for the exam last time, there was a larger table.

"A holographic projector?" Jack remarked, though it was his first time seeing one, he recognized it immediately.

"Yes, this is one of the three major technologies developed after the appearance of the monsters," Stephan explained.

Jack was already familiar with these three major technologies:

Firstly, there was the holographic projection simulation, powered by a supercomputer that boasted unparalleled computing speed. It could interpret manual gestures, recognize speech, and analyze data for simulation calculations. This technology streamlined processes like programming and data input, replacing them with automated computer programs. It was also utilized in mecha piloting, allowing for more intuitive control.

Secondly, there was the "Mind bridging" technology, rooted in neurobiology, aimed at mitigating the risk of neural overload caused by intense neural pressure during mecha piloting. This breakthrough, known as "synaesthesia" technology, enabled two or even three people to pilot a single mecha. Currently, only "Storm Crimson" employed three-person piloting, while most others stuck with two-person teams.

Ironically, it was quite an impressive machine. Designed for long-range attacks, it served as the mecha's ADC (Attack Damage Carry) and boasted an impressive track record. However, its potential was cut short due to the film's budget constraints.

As a result, Storm Crimson's long-range attack capabilities were neutered under the guise of "unrepaired damage from the previous battle."

For an ADC lacking the ability to engage in melee combat due to the loss of long-range attacks... the repercussions are glaringly obvious.

Adding to the complications, not long prior to this, Dr. Newton from the Monster Research Department at headquarters had managed to establish a synesthetic bridge with the monster's brain.

The purpose of this synesthetic bridging was to link the minds of both entities across the bridge, merging them into one, allowing for the sharing of memories and thoughts.

For the mecha pilot, achieving a 100% synchronization rate with the synesthetic bridge was paramount. Even a slight disparity could disrupt the simultaneous coordination of the left and right brain hemispheres during combat, potentially leading to imperfect mecha control.

In the heat of battle, even the slightest misstep could spell disaster!

Of course, Dr. Newton couldn't attain perfect harmony with the monsters, but his reluctant synesthetic connection did afford him some insights. He discovered that the monsters were actually bioengineered weapons, and the extraterrestrial beings were referred to as "Pioneers." These aliens had initially arrived on Earth during the Jurassic period, but the planet's conditions were unsuitable at the time. It was only due to environmental pollution that the Earth became habitable for them. Subsequently, they dispatched monsters to confront humans and further degrade the environment, among other revelations.

As the party possessing superior mental fortitude, the Pioneers gleaned more valuable information. For instance, they learned that the mechas impeding their progress were not sentient silicon-based beings but rather machines controlled by "humans." By targeting the cockpit, they could neutralize the mechas' combat effectiveness. Furthermore, they were privy to the weaknesses of all mechas and the precise locations of their cockpits!
