Pratice Makes Perfect

"Teach me quickly!" Hermia exclaimed anxiously.

She felt her entire body surging with an unprecedented power that she could barely contain. It was as if she were on the verge of bursting if she didn't release it.

"Don't be too hasty," Jack reassured her. He helped Hermia to her feet, placed his hand on her back, and carefully controlled his mana. He divided it into units and did the same with Hermia's mana.

Using his current method, Jack could manipulate his own magic power effortlessly, but Hermia's magic was beyond his direct control. The only way to bridge this gap was through a physical, hand-in-hand connection, allowing Hermia to experience firsthand how the spell, known as [Advanced Hypnosis Skills], worked.

No wonder Hermia felt like she was about to burst. Imagine having a small pond, and suddenly, twice as much water was poured into it. Hermia's ability to contain it was a testament to her gifted nature.

"Remember, this is how it works," Jack explained, attempting to slow down the process as much as possible. He selected a small hamster he had bought earlier and let it run on a spinning wheel.

"Hoo aaaaa, oh god..." Hermia gasped weakly as the release left her in a depleted state, unable to even move.

Jack couldn't help but think, "Why does this sound increasingly wrong?"

In any case, with the magic power channeled through Jack, Hermia gradually regained her strength, and the overwhelming mental weakness disappeared.

"...How much mana do you have?" Hermia asked, her curiosity piqued. "I felt like you used nearly twice my mana to control me earlier, and now you're giving me some more. Yet, you don't seem to be weakened at all."

"That's not important," Jack deflected.

"How much do you remember?"

Hermia was momentarily stunned as she tried to recall the experience. "Um... one...half, perhaps?"

In reality, she believed it was probably not even one-third; the energy was almost unbearable.

"I can understand your feelings," Jack nodded. "But if you don't have complete control over all your mana, using the spell would disrupt the balance. That's why I had to input so much mana to use it."

Hermia's eyes lit up as she asked, "Is there a solution?"

Jack contemplated for a moment. "Have you ever heard the saying, 'Practice makes perfect, and habit becomes natural'?"

Hermia's expression shifted to one of uncertainty. "Why do I suddenly have a bad feeling about this?"

"Since you can't sense the spells while being supported," Jack explained, "we'll keep supporting you until you get used to it! Sometimes, the solution to a problem is to tackle it head-on."

Hermia's eyes widened in realization. "Wait, isn't this essentially the same as before?"

....

One year had passed since their last encounter.

Jack strolled out of the tax bureau, a polite smile gracing his face as he accepted a note with a phone number from a female colleague. He made his way to a car parked at the roadside and opened the door.

"Did you get it?" Hermia inquired from the driver's seat.

Jack nodded, confirming, "I got it."

Hermia raised an eyebrow and playfully remarked, "You're sitting in the wrong seat."

Jack chuckled, realizing his mistake, and moved to the passenger side. "Alright, alright, no need to be so anxious. Are you really that scared of my driving? Did you have to resort to getting a driver's license yourself?"

Hermia shook her head firmly. "It's not about being scared. It's about survival," she quipped, recalling the wild ride of Jack's previous driving adventures. "You were driving like you were in a citywide race!"

Jack shrugged, unfazed. "Eh, it's not a big deal."

He tapped his newly acquired IRS ID card and added, "Finally, we can officially begin."

Over the past year, Jack had successfully guided Hermia in mastering the art of hypnotic magic. He had also managed to pass the rigorous IRS license exam, using his hypnotic skills on several interviewers and the chairman of the human resources department to secure their employment.

It wasn't a transaction, but a means to obtain an official IRS employee ID, allowing Jack to use magic more freely in their operations.

Today marked the culmination of their efforts as Jack had completed the onboarding process.

As Jack contemplated their next moves, his attention was abruptly drawn to a notification from the [Advanced Mechanic]. It displayed Hermia's control inputs for the car.

Jack's eyes widened as he watched the car start and bump into the vehicle in front of them.

He turned to Hermia, his expression a mix of amusement and exasperation. "So... is this the driver's license you got? Care to share how many times you used hypnotic magic during this little journey?"

Hermia looked somewhat sheepish. "Um, three times... maybe four?"

Jack sighed, massaging his forehead. "Well done. Just so you know, there's usually only one written test and one road test for a driver's license, as far as I remember."
