Jack's Power

Of course, Klein couldn't impede Jack. Regardless of Jack's identity or strength, one thing was certain—if Jack wanted to enter, no one could stop him.

Without uttering a word, Klein followed Jack and discreetly slipped his hand into his pocket, touching the small bottle of fear gas. He had grabbed it upon hearing that Jack was the visitor and had come out to welcome him.

"If you insist..." Klein thought to himself.

"The environment here doesn't seem very pleasant," Jack commented as he strolled into Arkham, surveying the surroundings.

The walls had turned a gloomy gray, appearing even more dilapidated under the dim lights. If not for the constant coming and going of staff, it would have been the perfect setting for a horror movie.

"The city government's funding for Arkham has always been insufficient," Klein remarked casually.

"Is that so?" Jack continued walking ahead. "I've heard there are many prisoners in Arkham. Despite the lack of funds from the city government, aren't you concerned about the possibility of these prisoners escaping?"

"Or perhaps, have the prisoners disappeared altogether?" Jack halted and looked at Klein.

"What are you talking about?" Klein smiled, "That's impossible. Arkham's security measures are even more stringent than Gotham City's prisons."

"Your words lack basis," Jack pointed to the nearby elevator. "Why don't you take me for a tour?"

"You sure," Klein asked. He pressed the elevator button and, as it opened, swiftly retrieved a small key, inserting it at a specific location to lock the elevator. Without the key, it wouldn't operate. If Jack detected any ulterior motives, Klein had no intention of letting him leave.

"What are you doing?" Jack's voice echoed, startling Klein.

Turning around, Klein found Jack had quietly entered the elevator at some point, without making a sound.

"There seems to be an issue with this elevator. If I don't do this, it might malfunction, trapping us here," Klein offered an excuse, thinking quickly.

Jack, wearing an expression of skepticism, challenged Klein's explanation of the operation's purpose, suspecting it might be a ploy to keep him confined. However, Klein, maintaining a calm demeanor, insisted that everything he shared was indeed true.

Holding a vial of fear gas discreetly, Klein had a contingency plan in case the situation turned unfavorable. He understood the potential consequences if Jack fell victim to the fear gas, contemplating the chaos it might unleash.

Klein, aware of Jack's reputation, refrained from unleashing the fear gas, knowing it could attract unwanted attention to Arkham.

As the elevator ascended to the floor housing mental patients, Klein led Jack through the gloomy surroundings of Arkham.

The atmosphere, designed to be oppressive, had no effect on Jack, who possessed the hear if justice. Also the system not only granted him hypnotic and mind-reading magic but also provided knowledge of psychology, turning Jack into a formidable individual with a deep understanding of the human psyche.

In essence, Jack's psychological knowledge rivaled that of top psychologists, lacking only an official qualification certificate. The system had equipped him with the skills to observe and analyze others' psychology, making him exceptionally adept in navigating complex situations.

As Jack approached the unfolding action plan, his unique set of skills and knowledge became increasingly valuable in the unpredictable world of Gotham City.

"This is the room where the prisoner you're looking for is being held," Klein announced, guiding Jack to a room with a thick iron door. He gestured towards the door, indicating, "You can observe him through the glass window on the iron door."

Eager to get a closer look, Jack inquired, "Can I go in and have a look?"

Klein hesitated before advising, "I suggest you not to do this. The other party is a prisoner with a certain mental illness. Close contact might cause irreparable damage to the patient's mental state. It's best to avoid it."

Undeterred, Jack asserted, "No need to worry. He's just a prisoner."

"This is not typical of an officer's approach, Officer Jack," Klein frowned.

"I'm just curious about why a person who could speak normally and act independently in court turned into what he is now after staying in Arkham for less than two days, even needing to wear a straitjacket. I still don't understand what he's talking about. It's exactly like someone suffering from a disease," Jack explained.

Klein nodded, "Exactly. His behavior confirms my diagnosis—he is indeed suffering from mental illness."

"But," Jack interjected, "I checked his files. In the past few decades, he's never had a history of mental illness. Dr. Klein, how did you determine his mental illness within these two days? And was it triggered by something specific?"

Klein theorized, "I believe it may be due to the immense pressure and remorse after committing the crime that caused his mental problems. From a psychological perspective, this phenomenon is called..."

Cutting him off, Jack asserted, "I don't want to find out if this criminal is mentally ill, and I don't need the professional terms of psychology. I just need you to open the door."

"Okay," Klein nodded, took out the key, and proceeded to unlock the door.

As the door swung open, the sight inside revealed the criminal, now in a straitjacket and tied to a recliner.

Rendered almost immobile, he mumbled incomprehensible words, with dull, distant eyes and traces of drool at the corners of his mouth.
