I love the character dilemma that despite it not having anything to do with him him having the knowledge to change the outcome or help but with everything there comes a cost and he debates in himself on whether to do or not to.... cause his safety and self is considered first but he knows eh can do something to change the outcome!
Mc cant be a hero, not with what he knows, he has to sacrifice for the greater good in order to keep the plot as similar as possible so he can have the greatest effect. As he said its both a blessing and a curse he came here, this is the burden he as the author has to bear. Hes not the hero they deserve but the hero they need (i know i ripped this of from dark knight but i see him becoming some1 like batman).
I hope he chooses the more rational option and doesn't deviate from the original plot as that would cause a lot of uncertainties maybe even causing a chain effect that will later be the demise of humanity. Also, he doesn't seem like the guy who would just help anyone he sees just because he could. As far as I have read, he is very rational in his choices with also the plot conveniences of him messing up so that the story can somehow move along a certain direction.
