In Seconds???? How slow is he? With his enhanced Speed and Strength, it should quite literally not take even a second for him to travel 3 metres.

just build him a Dirt box. Terraria logic states that is the strongest defence for most attacks.
One day would be enough time for the both of us to be familiarize with strategy. Since John intelligent would give him the ability to adapt to the strategy quick, and my role is simple. All I need to do is prevent people from hurting John. Not much complexity in that task. A 9mm bullet can easily pass through Iron. And Iron Skin Potions make your skin like, you guessed it, Iron. So I give it a 50/50 chance of success. Or 100% with plot armour.
The boy raises a valid question. Could I tank a gun shot? I don't know–. Never in my life did I asked myself that question. So, answering it is quite difficult. I know in the game a Handgun does 26 Ranged Damage.
