Chapter 6: The Enchanted Sword Obtain

The both of us manage to return back to the butcher shop without alerting anymore of the kidnappers. Thank God! However, everything is far from over. This is just the calm before the storm. There's no time to relax. I need strength; fast! Else there'll be no Alexander Wise in the future.

Anxiousness clouded my mind. My body more tense than ever. Sweat was dripping down my body even though I didn't do any physical labor. I thought this was the end, but I begin to feel thirsty.

I quickly walk downstair to grab some water; relieving myself of some stress. When I was about to drink that sweet, sweet water. A voice sounded out behind me.

"Will we open the shop?" John asked.

I gulped down a mouthful of water; using that time to think of an answer. After a moment of silence, I finally responded, "No, we will not be opening the shop. Tomorrow, we will go to the forest and train our combat skills."

John nodded, agreeing with my plan, "What training do you have in mind?" He questioned.

I rubbed my head, thinking hard on the plan, "To be honest I was thinking of using the good old RPG style strategy. I will be the tank in the frontline, while you're at the backline dishing out damage." I proposed.

"That works, compare to me you are far more endurance. Though, I do have concern on how tanky you are? I know that you could definitely endure an axe to the face. But I believe the kidnappers wouldn't be coming at us with knife, axe, or any blades. Most likely guns. Can you tank a gun shot? John questioned.

The boy raises a valid question. Could I tank a gun shot? I don't know–. Never in my life did I asked myself that question. So, answering it is quite difficult. I know in the game a Handgun does 26 Ranged Damage. My health is 180, so through game logic I could definitely tank a bullet without dying.

Although it only works through game logic, there's still some validity in it. Since just recently I found out that some logic does transfer to reality. Also, there is consistency to that statement, since most if not all guns in Pre-Hardmode wouldn't easily kill me. That's even including the magical guns like Phoenix Blaster, Eviscerator, and others. So, surviving bullet with my flesh is certainly plausible.

"Yeah definitely, I can take a shot." I answered with confident.

"Then we'll just stick to your plan. You stay in the frontline, and I'll shoot from the backline." John said.

With an agreed strategy, and some confident. I went back to my bedroom. Ready to sleep.

You would think after a tired day of fighting and getting beaten up. I would sleep right away, but it seems my mind is still too tense to even think of resting. I roll around the bed trying every type of position doing my best in getting myself some needed slumber. Yet at the end, it results in nothing but more exhaustion.

Frustration and irritation begin to build up inside my head. The longer I fail to sleep, the more it keeps growing. At a certain point I've grown so angry I wanted to scream at the top of my lung. This is torture, "WHY CAN'T I SLEEP!!! AHHHH." I shouted in my mind.

"Fine! You don't want me to sleep! I won't sleep then! I will just downstair and get some coffee." I shouted at myself with aggression in my tone.

When I got downstair I was surprise to find that John was there. "You're still up; this late?" I ask him.

"How can someone sleep when a looming threat approaches?" John responded in a tired voice.

I guess he's feeling the same as me, afraid of tomorrow. Sigh, why did I do the mission. I could avoid it, but no, I believe I could take it. After all it's only medium difficulty.

How could you be so stupid to not realize that real life doesn't work like a game? Things can spiral out of control.

Look at the situation you're in now, instead of an ordinary kidnapping case. You're stuck facing a criminal organization. Just as I was ranting about my own stupidity, the system showed me more proof of my dumbness.

(Quest)

[Difficulty]: Hard

[Description]: A criminal organization notice your involvement in their business. They're sending men to get rid of you. Beware they are armed and loaded with hot weapons.

[Option]:

1) Kill or beat up all of the killers.

[Reward]:

1) ImkSushi's mod and 2 tokens

[Failure]:

1) Death

Fuck!!! Is all I can say. Fuck! Is the only word to express my emotion. Why is life so complicated? Goddamn it! Why can't the world be like an NPC world like my peers? Goddamn realism!

A few more minutes of ranting finally cool down my nerve. I've gained enough rationality to start working on a plan.

There's many factor that can determine my victory in the upcoming battle. How many killers are there? Will I obtain the Enchanted Sword? Will the Enchanted Sword be as powerful as I think it would be? Will I gain a full set of armor?

If by chance I've gotten the best scenario. The killer coming after me are small in numbers. I obtain the Enchanted Sword, and it is overpowered, and somehow, I've obtained a whole set of gold armor. Then the conclusion is simple. I will absolutely dominate the brutal fight ahead.

However, if it's the opposite, or I didn't obtain the Enchanted Sword. Then I will just pack up my things and go on a run. Delaying as much time as possible to grow my strength.

My plan aside, I'll need to get something for John. Since he'll need something better than the shuriken he currently has. Maybe I could get him Wulfrum Prosthesis. I already got a bunch of Fallen Stars in my inventory; I could make him two Mana Crystal. That's enough for him to fire the weapon for quite a while.

Yeah, that would work, that's his path from now on, a mage. After all who doesn't like the classic duo of warrior and mage.

I guess that's the plan for tomorrow. Obtain myself the Enchanted Sword and a full set of gold armor. On the off chance that there's not enough time to gather the gold needed to make a full set. I'll just downgrade to silver armor. Since I've obtained enough of it to make a whole set of silver armor.

I'll also be killing as much Wulfrum as possible after getting the Enchanted Sword, crafting John his Wulfrum Prosthesis.

With a goal in mind, I go for round 2 of trying to sleep. And it resulted in the same thing. I couldn't catch a wink of sleep. Goddamn it!

Despite failing to sleep I didn't give up; determine I was in getting some rest. My hard work pays off because eventually I succumb to exhaustion and finally caught some ZZZ.

When I woke up, I got into action immediately; doing the regular routine of eating and showering. After all that I start my (Gameplay).

At once, I start to work on getting the Enchanted Sword. The journey back to The Shrine Planetoid was quite long; taking me around 7 minutes to get there. All in fault of the Harpies that won't get off my back. It's as if the game knows my intention; doing everything in its power to stop me.

Sadly for the game, I am too good at the video games to die so easily by a bunch of pathetic insect. If I can no hit most bosses, how could I possibly get killed by mobs.

My humble brag aside I finally reach the Planetoid. Obtaining my first treasure, the Enchanted Sword. I am so happy; I could die at this moment.

Enchanted Sword

42 Melee Damage

9% Critical Strike Chance

Average Speed

Average Knockback

Shoots and Enchanted Sword Beam

As soon as I said those jinx word I almost fall from the Planetoid to my death. It seems I need to shut my mouth and put my head back into the game. Else who knows what regret would happens.

My near-death aside, I really want to put the Enchanted Sword to the test.

I continue to venture in space seeking for more Ore Planetoid. Massacring every single Harpies, I see to feed to my frustration and anger on them.

It took quite some time for me to find another Planetoid, around 4 minutes to be exact. The Ore Planetoid contains silver ores. Making gold armor off the table and silver armor on the table. The mining took around 3 minutes.

Without wasting more time seeking Planetoid I recall back. Afterward, I started to craft myself Silver Armor.

Silver Helmet

3 Defense

5% Increase Critical Strike Chance

Set Bonus: 3 Defense, +1 Life Regen

Two seconds after getting hit for 20 or more damage, you heal for 10 getting hit again resets the timer, delaying the heal.

Silver Chainmail

4 Defense

+2 Life Regen

Set Bonus: 3 Defense, +1 Life Regen

Two seconds after getting hit for 20 or more damage, you heal for 10 getting hit again resets the timer, delaying the heal.

Silver Greaves

3 Defense

8% Increase Movement Speed

Set Bonus: 3 Defense, +1 Life Regen

Two seconds after getting hit for 20 or more damage, you heal for 10 getting hit again resets the timer, delaying the heal.

That makes my total defense 13 with the full set equip. In addition to quite a good amount of health regen. That's good, if I were to be mortally wounded without any potion in hand I could pop out of combat and regen my way to full health.

Getting everything I need for myself, I work on killing Wulfrum for John. Luckily for me there's a lot of them that spawns. So, in a quick 3 minutes, I was able to get 11 Wulfrum and 1 Energy Core; enough to make the Wulfrum Prosthesis. I didn't craft it right away though, since I am already far away from the base. So, I might as well explore. In this exploration, I do have the goal of finding The Desert and The Crimson biomes because these two biomes are important to fight the first boss in Calamity, The Desert Scourge.

The funny thing I've noticed when I started adventuring is that I am heading right. What can I say, right is always the right direction. The journey toward my two destinations was hard, since it was nighttime. Fortunately for me, I got The Enchanted Sword, so most of the difficulties were solved by it.

The reason why it's challenging is because I can die from the enemy at any moment. I am not invincible, just yet.

In my search, I faced countless monsters, having encountered Zombies and Demon Eyes. Their drop was minuscule, making me feel as if all my luck had run out. Since all I've gotten from killing about 7 Demon Eyes and 11 Zombies was 1 Lens and copper coins. Which is crazy considering the drop rate of Lens is 1/3. Yes, I remember that detail.

Thank you, God, for granting this mortal the Mind Palace, you have granted me the greatest gift. Your gift has given me access to the whole Wikipedia of both Vanilla and Calamity. Since I have read all of the wiki information at least once. Yes, I did look at every page in the Wiki. Yes, I am a Terraria Addict.

The adventure was slow and steady since I didn't rush to find the biome. I was busy killing enemies for Lens and coins. Because at some point, I realize I could just work on getting the Suspicious Looking Eye. The Desert Scourge can wait another time.

This in hindsight is a stupid move because the Eye of Cthulhu spawn naturally after reaching 200 health. So why work on his spawner when you can just wait. Work on the Desert Scourge spawner instead because it can't be spawn naturally.

Good argumentation, but the problem is that Eye of Cthulhu have much better loot. I need Eye of Cthulhu loot more than Desert Scourge, simple reasoning.

Another 5 minutes have passed and I collected enough Lens to craft the Suspicious Looking Eye. All I need now is a Crimson Alter since all the ore indicate that I am in a Crimson World.

Additional evidence for my certainty is the new enemy that just spawn, a Crimera. Normally I would be scared of these flying bastards because they fly really quickly toward you. Alone that wouldn't be a problem, but surrounded by enemies and that thing comes after you that's when things get dangerous.

Also, while I do have a full set of armor and 180 health. In Master Mode that amount of armor means nothing. Unless I got 40+ defenses, I can't even try to tank anything. Taking any hits other than a slime would be fatal.

These dangers however have a solution. The solution that solves all my worries is of course the Enchanted Sword. It has the title of Pre-Hardmode's strongest melee weapon for a reason. The thing destroys even in Master Mode, a few swings and beams will kill every normal enemy out there without a problem.

Just look at the 7 enemies surrounding me. They're getting fuck left and right without the ability to hit me once. It's not an understatement to say that I win Pre-Hardmode because with my skill and this weapon damage; I can ace every boss in the game.

All right let's calm down, don't get too cocky now. There are still a lot of accessories I need to make before starting to kill bosses. The Eyes of Cthulhu and Desert Scourge are fine. Defeating them requires only distance. Since Hermes Boots' speed is fast enough to outrun them.

However, bosses like Skeletron, The Slime God, and Queen Bee require more than just movement speed, since they're faster than you. The Perforators could also be a boss that you can't beat without a utility accessory. However, if you fight him on the Surface and have enough platform; dodging both his attacks and his minion is quite easy. As long as you time your movement right, something that's not a problem for me.

Finishing with my humble bragging, I entered the Crimson Entrance making my way down, finding the one thing I was looking for. It didn't take long for me to find the Crimson Altar since the path leading to it is easy to traverse.

When I've gotten to the Crimson Altar, I quickly crafted The Suspicious Looking Eye. After that, I drink a recall potion and craft myself the Wulfrum Prosthesis. Right then the timer runs out and my (Gameplay) is over.
