The Seeker System

After the 'Century of Phenomena', humanity had declined by more than two thirds it's population and eventually pushed back into 'Zones' where they were forced to live in 'District Cities'. The world outside the zones had become desolate wastelands inhospitable for them. The 'Century of Phenomena' brought plagues and destruction. Turning most plants and animals into horrid mutant beasts, unleashing monstrous creatures from 'Gates', and turning undead, the fallen population of humanity. But, it also brought hope for the survivors to endure the warped landscape. It brought forth an explosive advancement in technology and filled the earth with magic. Humans even experienced 'Evolutions' only seen in fantasy. It took half a century before that Hell unleashed and forced humans back. Now, evolved/awakened humans are known as 'Seekers' that delve into the wastelands within their zones to scrounge for treasures, artifacts, and anything useful. They also clear 'Gates' to procure the same. Life within the 'District Cities' was almost the same as before the Phenomena. Seekers are the heroes of society, and hold much influence. Connor W. Michael is one such Seeker. But, he is the weakest to ever awaken. Abused as a lowly 'Porter', he endures things worse than any mutant, monster. or zombie... Human Cruelty. But this is his beginning, the beginning of his journey from The Weakest to The Strongest.

It's Never that Easy

Sarah looked between herself and Connor, confusion played across her face.

"I'm alive?" Sarah questioned.

"No." Connor answered.

"But I'm talking and moving." Sarah pointed out.

"Because I raised you from the dead." Connor replied. Sarah once again stared at Connor.

"So, I'm your undead servant?" Sarah continued to question.

"What happened to all your hostility towards me?" Connor returned a question.

"Hmm, for some reason my feelings from my time of death, have vanished towards you. I simply have a desire to do as you wish, which is very much vexing, yet I'm not against it." Sarah explained.

'Brian said something similar. But, unlike Ivory and Brian, she's just a Basic undead.... so why can she still retain her sentience?'

[Hi, its Morta again! You seem to be in a fit of confusion dear, allow me to explain some things, since you're new and all. Normally a basic undead has no will of its own and follows commands blindly. But, if that undead happens to be risen within a seven minute time frame and then contracted, all of the previous sentience the subject once had, will return. The plus is, you basically get a sentient doll to do your bidding as you see fit without having to be around it constantly! And, give me some more attention, since I'm so selflessly helping you! Enjoy ^_^]

'How... helpful these gods are, for the purpose of their own gains... Why Emotes? And stop using the system as a personal communication device!'

"Connor... let us have a quick chat." Robert took Connor to the side.

"Speak." Connor replied.

"You do know, that amongst mages, there's never been someone who can raise the dead, right? There might be some who can enslave an undead, but not completely raise the dead on their own! I'm not saying what you can do is wrong, I'm just saying keep it under wraps for the time being." Robert warned.

"That goes without saying. If I just use Necromancy, I'll never get stronger." Connor agreed.

"I think you fail to understand what I'm trying to get at. Hah, just tread carefully." Robert sighed. Connor turned back to Sarah, trying to decide on whether or not she held any value as a servant. Just as he went to ask a question, the building shook violently, and a earth shattering roar rang out.

Connor collapsed to his knees, clutching his chest. His heart was beating rapidly. and his body warmed.

[Warning! Abnormal fluctuations in mana detected!]

"WE HAVE TO RUN!" Robert exclaimed. Connor remained kneeling, his heart beating faster than his body could handle. The roaring ended finally and Brian ran up to Connor and put his hand on his head.

"Fantastic! Ah, wait, now's not the time to be captivated. It seems his dragons heart has reacted to the roar of another dragon! It's causing his natural mana to fluctuate and pump through the blood stream. Much like how the dragons heart is meant to operate. Have you never encountered dragons before?" Brian asked Connor. Connor shook his head.

"Ah, it seems it's been rebooted by the mana infused roar of another dragon. It's actually attempting to reject your body. I'll do my best to stabilize your condition by controlling your mana directly, do forgive me for the intrusion." Brian explained as a foreign mana intruded into Connors body and forced the fluctuating mana to settle down.

"Its a temporary fix, but if I remove myself any further than three feet, he'll collapse again." Brian stated. Connor breathed easier, but his heart remained beating roughly.

"How do you feel?" Mina asked as she helped Connor up.

"Angrier than usual. Rather violent." Connor replied.

"Hmm, Dr. Carlos was too premature in declaring you a finished experiment. And I have to agree with his wife, it was rather expensive and reckless. Connor, I feel as though I must finish the experiment started upon you. These side effects, are yet unrecorded! Think of the scientific accomplishments your body holds! Secrets that could further human capabilities!" Brian exclaimed wildly.

"You Saud you weren't hostile. Weren't you a doctor?" Robert inquired.

"Yes, in medical research." Brian nodded.

"Why is it so silent now?" Mina pondered aloud.

"He's listening." Connor stated while sweating profusely.

"Listening?" Robert asked.

"To be more precise, he's hunting." Connor replied. Immediately after, a giant scaled and clawed hand, slammed into the building, grabbed the remainder of Sarah's men and pulled them out.

"Uh, that was the stairs..." Robert paled, the only way up had just been destroyed.

"Stay quiet." Connor huffed, he had turned pale and his body weakened every passing second. The group quieted. The sounds of shrill shrieking began filling the whole building. Then the dragon followed up with its roar and began tearing into the building more fiercely. Chunks of building fell and Connor began to scream in pain.

"I have to let go of my control on your mana. Don't die!" Brian canceled his control and Connors mana started to fluctuate once more.

"What do we do?" Sarah asked calmly.

"How are you two so calm!?" Mina asked while I hysterics. Both Sarah and Brian looked at her.

"We're already dead." They replied unanimously.

"You aren't afraid to die again?" Robert questioned them.

"Having already died, the human fear of death has been extinguished. That doesn't mean we want to die, it's just that we haven't a need to fear it anymore." Brian replied. Ivory picked Connor up and started walking towards the opening created by the dragon.

The building was beginning to collapse from the multiple attacks being made all over the building.

"What's she doing?" Mina pointed.

"Ah, she's saying to jump." Brian stated, just as the little girl leaped out with Connor in tow. Brian nodded and walked over as well, turned around and motioned to follow as he to leapt out.

"Sensible. Better to risk hiding on the ground than wait for death in this failing building." Sarah noted as she followed suit.

"I should have listened and stayed at home." Mina cried. Robert picked her up and sprinted right out of the opening, his stomach flew to his chest as he did so.

"KYAA!" Mina screamed. Robert's face was strained and his veins were fit to bursting. But he had a look of extreme concentration. His skin began to turn red, and when the ground was a mere ten feet, he spun Mina to his back and pulled his fist back, and with a speed that no eye could follow, punched forward.

The punch was fast enough to push the air in front, condensing it to the extreme, causing a blast back that cushioned their fall enough to slow them down, but the speed at which they hit the ground was equivalent to falling freely from ten feet. So it was still jarring.

"That was an impressive display of raw power, what kind of draw back does it have?" Brian asked when he went to help them up.

"Oh, I won't be able to move for awhile after. Can I trouble you to drag me along?" Robert replied.

"Certainly." Brian replied. Sarah stepped forward with a sigh and lifted a limp Robert off of the ground.
