The Seeker System

After the 'Century of Phenomena', humanity had declined by more than two thirds it's population and eventually pushed back into 'Zones' where they were forced to live in 'District Cities'. The world outside the zones had become desolate wastelands inhospitable for them. The 'Century of Phenomena' brought plagues and destruction. Turning most plants and animals into horrid mutant beasts, unleashing monstrous creatures from 'Gates', and turning undead, the fallen population of humanity. But, it also brought hope for the survivors to endure the warped landscape. It brought forth an explosive advancement in technology and filled the earth with magic. Humans even experienced 'Evolutions' only seen in fantasy. It took half a century before that Hell unleashed and forced humans back. Now, evolved/awakened humans are known as 'Seekers' that delve into the wastelands within their zones to scrounge for treasures, artifacts, and anything useful. They also clear 'Gates' to procure the same. Life within the 'District Cities' was almost the same as before the Phenomena. Seekers are the heroes of society, and hold much influence. Connor W. Michael is one such Seeker. But, he is the weakest to ever awaken. Abused as a lowly 'Porter', he endures things worse than any mutant, monster. or zombie... Human Cruelty. But this is his beginning, the beginning of his journey from The Weakest to The Strongest.

Setting Final Stage

Reaching the third floor was far more difficult than was originally perceived, but the group was well ahead of the cronies. The group headed for the staircase that led to the second floor, and stopped to catch their breath.

"How long before they reach us?" Robert asked while gasping for air.

"I'd say about half an hour. The hordes down below should buy us enough time, and hopefully drain that fire mage of his magic." Connor replied.

"How well thought out." Mina sat on the stairs. Connor walked over to the opening where he jumped from and looked down. several spots of melted concrete not littered the sides as the group below moved up. The closest was still several stories down, but the holes were also a few stories apart.

Connor waited until another, very short and brief pillar of flames shot through.

"Make that twenty minutes guys." Connor told the group.

"Alright... how do we fight them?" Robert asked.

"Mina won't be, me, you, and Ivory will. Can you utilize magic?" Connor turned to Brian.

"I am a Lich. Though my use of magic has been for fending off little creatures, I've never fully tested my strength." Brian admitted.

Connor picked up a pipe and swung it, his Sword Arts did not recognized the pipe.

"Brian, I need your magic." Connor set the pipe on a concrete slab.

"For what purpose?" Brian asked as he approached.

"Heat this up until it's white." Connor directed as he lifted another piece of concrete up. He moved the pipe so part of it was hanging off the edge. As soon as the metal became white hot, Connor slammed the flat end of his concrete chunk down on top.

"Now cool it of with water." Connor directed once more as he tossed the chunk away and out the opening. Brian did as directed. The pipe was effectively flattened, though rather crudely. He picked it up and swung it, but still no reaction.

"I guess it has to be sharp to be a sword." Connor stated.

"Oh, you wished for a sword, I see. I had an interesting skill when I was alive. Metallurgy. Let me see that." Brian grabbed the pipe and Connor watched as it shifted its shape into a single edged blade. Brian handed it back and Connor swung it, it was comfortable and familiar, almost relaxing.

"That's a sword. Perfect. Thank you." Connor thanked Brian.

[Brian's Loyalty with you has increased.]

"Of course. Happy to be of service." Brian smiled and walked back over to the stairs.

Sarah and her Cronies made it the the third floor and continued towards the seconds staircase, she had lost more men on the way up than down. When she would get her hands on that blasted boy and his friends, she would rip then apart. The fates smiled upon her as Connor stepped into view.

"If only Minerva had followed my orders, I wouldn't be in this mess with you!" Sarah started.

"Yeah, but I killed her first so... guess that sucks." Connor shrugged. Sarah stopped, her face awash in surprise and pale as paper.

"You... what?" She asked softly.

"I told you at the orphanage. I killed her and her cronies. Stuffed their bodies into a closing gate." Connor repeated.

"You... killed... my daughter?" Sarah looked broken suddenly.

"Minerva was your daughter? That makes sense." Connor nodded.

"Heh... haha... HAHAHA! Good! Even more reason to kill you!" Sarah went maniacal. She was looking up while laughing and crying. The few men she had with her rushed forward.

Robert stepped our from around the corner and gave and gave swift punch in the neck of the nearest guy, breaking it and sending him down. Connor moved forward and met the next guy, while Brian handled the mage.

The Fight was fast, but loud. Brian's magic overpowered the B Ranks by a few notches, where he ended up being encased in ice. Mina took that opportunity to push said ice block out of the opening. Connor didn't need to check to know what happened next.

"I said stay put Mina, I don't want you getting hurt." Connor said to her.

"I'm not a kid!" Mina shouted as she proceeded to kick the ass of the nearest crony. She used a form of martial arts that was fast and effective.

"Oh, okay." Connor stated. Soon, the only person not engaged in any fighting, was Sarah herself. Her men either dead or fighting. Connor approached her, pipe sword in hand. She fell to her ass and put her hand up.

"Wait! Wait! Spare me! I can give you money! Women! Me! Anything you want!" She pleaded.

"Your life...." Connor answered as he plunged the pipe sword straight through her heart.

"...since your father stole mine." Connor completed his sentence as he pulled the sword from Sarah's body while kicking her down to the floor. Her lifeless eyes staring forward hatefully.

The men, seeing their source of income dead, stopped fighting and surrendered.

"Raise." Connor held his hand up over Sarah's body, and the body began to twitch and move until it stood up.

"Oh, so now we're just gonna move on to raising the dead? You're more of a Lich than Brian is! No offense Brian, it's just, you have more emotions than that guy." Robert stated, he was just tired and mentally drained by Connors antics.

"Oh, yeah no, I totally agree." Brian agreed. Connor stared at Sarah, who stared back blankly.

"I like this version of her better. She's quiet." Connor pointed at her while looking at the group. His face was still mostly blank, but the ghost of a smile could be seen. Sarah leaned forward and bit Connors finger.

"Ow! Bitch." Connor punched her right in the face, and sent her back to the ground.
