The Seeker System

After the 'Century of Phenomena', humanity had declined by more than two thirds it's population and eventually pushed back into 'Zones' where they were forced to live in 'District Cities'. The world outside the zones had become desolate wastelands inhospitable for them. The 'Century of Phenomena' brought plagues and destruction. Turning most plants and animals into horrid mutant beasts, unleashing monstrous creatures from 'Gates', and turning undead, the fallen population of humanity. But, it also brought hope for the survivors to endure the warped landscape. It brought forth an explosive advancement in technology and filled the earth with magic. Humans even experienced 'Evolutions' only seen in fantasy. It took half a century before that Hell unleashed and forced humans back. Now, evolved/awakened humans are known as 'Seekers' that delve into the wastelands within their zones to scrounge for treasures, artifacts, and anything useful. They also clear 'Gates' to procure the same. Life within the 'District Cities' was almost the same as before the Phenomena. Seekers are the heroes of society, and hold much influence. Connor W. Michael is one such Seeker. But, he is the weakest to ever awaken. Abused as a lowly 'Porter', he endures things worse than any mutant, monster. or zombie... Human Cruelty. But this is his beginning, the beginning of his journey from The Weakest to The Strongest.

Conference with gods

Connor found himself in a white marble room with unnecessary amounts of gold decorations and ornaments. Invidia stood before him, though now she wore a black misty dress and gold jewelry on her wrists, ankle, on her head, around her neck and on almost all her fingers.

"Do you like it?" Invidia asked while turning her body and showing off her figure.

"Did I die?" Connor asked instead.

"Still cutting straight to the point are we. The short answer is no. But, you are struggling." Invidia replied.

"I see." Connor yawned.

"Are you really not curious?" Another voice inquired. Connor glanced over at a very tan, black haired, built dude. He wore a three piece suit and a fedora. He was tossing a coin in the air and catching it, over and over. His other hand was in his pocket.

"About what?" Connor asked.

"Perhaps your body? Why you're here? Who we are? Pick one, you cheeky ass mortal." Yet another person chipped in. Connor lazily looked behind him. A man wearing military boots and pants as well as a drap green t-shirt, tucked into the pants. His eyes were like blood and his hair was blonde and short. He was built, built. His muscles looked ready to tear his shirt, probably for the ninth time that day.

"Not really. I can guess." Connor answered. The military guy started laughing.

"Mortals really should be more like you! You have guts to talk so indifferently to us gods!" He continued to laugh heartily.

"Leave the poor child alone Mars! We brought him here to prevent him from dying... yet." This time a woman stepped seemingly from nowhere. She was fairly young looking, maybe early twenties. Her hair and skin was the entire opposite of Invidia. White as snow hair and pale skin. Her eyes were a striking violet. She wore a black flowing dress, that shone with an oily sheen. She looked at Connor and smiled. Though she was very attractive, her smile was very unnerving.

"That was your and Invidia's choice, Morta. I made no such choice." Mercury responded, he caught his coin and tossed it into the air again.

"Yet you showed up." Mars pointed out.

"As did you." Mercury returned. Connor squatted down and began poking the marble.

"Oh, it's really smooth." He commented to himself.

"That's only because I'm invested in his raw fighting potential! Imagine how much damage he could spread on a battlefield! What excuse do you have?" Mars shouted.

"I like his obsession with money." Mercury coolly answered.

"Hah, can't you two not bicker for once?" Invidia joined in. Meanwhile Connor was climbing one of the pillars so he could have a better seat.

"Yeah, as soon as he quits acting like he's so much better than everyone else!" Mars stood up and pointed.

"Sure, if you become the god of linking my shoes." Mercury mused with a sly smile.

"Hush! Where'd the child go?" Morta stepped in between the two and began to look around. Connor was sitting atop a pillar looking down upon the bickering gods with intrigue.

"Don't mind me." Connor responded. The gods looked up.

"When did you climb up there?" Invidia questioned.

"Just now." Connor answered.

"I'll forgive you this time, but mortals should not look down upon gods. Now, down you must come." Morta explained and pointed downward.

"I see." Connor replied and jumped down.

"Connor, do you not understand the situation you are in? Physically, I mean." Morta asked Connor.

"Something about my heart and dragons. Its not really all that important. It's my heart now, it'll work out on its own." Connor responded with a shrug.

"Hah, how very optimistic, but that is not the case child. The dragons heart is rejecting both your human flesh and the undead organs. In turn, the undead organs have also begin to reject your living body, and are shutting down. Further more, your human flesh is treating both as foreign objects that need to be purged, and have begun attacking back." Morta explained in detail.

"So my body is at war with itself, over a dragons roar." Connor concluded and summarized.

"There's more to it, but I suppose that suffices." Morta replied.

"My eyes and half brain?" Connor asked.

"Its only a matter of time, by then, you most definitely will die." Morta answered. Connor pondered the information.

"Solution?" Connor inquired.

"Hahaha! Presented with inevitable death, and still asks for a solution! The futile struggles of a mortal!" Mars laughed in response. A pang hit within Connors chest and he collapsed again.

"Looks like it's begun to effect your conscience." Invidia noted. Overwhelming feelings of rage began to rush over Connor in waves.

"Wow, I can feel the pure wrath of a dragon emitting from him! Remarkable!" Mercury stated as he walked closer, his coin no longer being tossed.

"Still, he is a mortal, that level of wrath can only destroy him." Mars remarked. His words grayed on Connors nerves.

"Oh, as if you know so damn much about mortals! You who has never struggled, nor had for want! Sitting pretty up in your little white and gold marble palace! Get over yourself first before judging others!" Connor suddenly exploded. His pupils had become slitted and his face contorted into something inhumane.

"Oh! Is that what you think? I'm a god you cheeky little shit stain! I can judge a mortal however the fuck I want to!" Mars stood up and approached Connor, his outfit shimmered and changed to a full Roman battle dress. He held a long spear and shield.

"You must feel real mighty, standing armed against a mere mortal. Afraid I might hurt you?" Connor spat. The other gods backed away, amusement playing on their faces.

"Oh? You think you have what it takes to damage me? Very well. If you can dent my armor, I'll concede you being a mere mortal." Mars unsummoned his spear and shield and faced Connor. At this point, a dark aura had begun to surround Connor. His skin had darkened and claws were beginning to take place of his fingers.

*Meanwhile, physical world*

The group had taken refuge in a building a fair distance from the black dragon and its rampage. It's roars still shook the earth at their location. Connor was being tended too by Brian and Ivory, while Sarah and Mina took care of Robert.

"How is it, that our main fighting force is what's down for the count?" Mina complained.

"Don't be so negative, we should be counting ourselves lucky to be alive instead. How's Connor?" Robert inquired after chastising Mina.

"Not good. He's been unconscious for a couple hours now, and his body is changing. Brian says the good news is that the undead organs and dragon heart have stopped rejecting each other. The bad news is, his human shell is being eaten away and transformed into something more suitable." Mina replied solemnly.

"Eh, he'll be fine. I bet you you he's fighting tooth and nail right now." Robert smiled.
