Chapter 14

Nathaniel did as Alexia suggested and open the box and found two things inside. The first thing is a white palm size rectangular-shaped device with a golden lightning emblem on it just like his bracelet and under the device is a letter addressed to him.

Nathaniel took out the letter and opened it to see that the handwriting of the content was the same as his own proving that the letter was indeed written by him and he started reading the content of the letter shortly after that.

It took Nathaniel a few minutes to patiently read the letter without using his speed and he was dumbfounded after he was done. From the letter, he came to know the reason why the head of Mercury Labs, Dr Christina McGee called him.

It turns out that after his future self came to the past and saved him before he went back to his timeline he came to realize that the timeline won't be the same as it was before so he made preparations for him.

Before going back to the future, his future self contributed to the rise of Mercury Labs and became the second large shareholder with fifty percent and also the co-founder of the research lab and all these were to be transferred to his name tomorrow.

The second important thing the letter contained was about the device which is actually a key. From the letter he came to know that the house he is currently living in was also the same house that his future self lived in so he made an underground base that only the device can unlock.

The last thing in the letter talked about his future arch-nemesis, Dark Dash. There was not much about the speedster but from what was written in the letter, it suggested that he should be careful and also increase his speed.

"This is insane."

["I know you are shocked but this is just the beginning of things there are a whole lot more shocking things coming."]

Nathaniel said to himself as he could barely believe his own eyes. Alexia understood Nathaniel and tried to comfort him which worked as Nathaniel overcame the feelings of shock as there is not many things that can shock him anymore when he remembered the first time he saw a demon and witnessed magic in action and on top of that, there was his reincarnation so having an enemy that has the power to basically do anything just made him want to train his abilities more and prepare himself for the future so he got up from the couch and took the device in his hand before pressing the lightning bolt symbol on it.

The device glowed white and levitated out of Nathaniel's hand after the symbol was pressed and headed in the direction of the basement. Nathaniel quietly followed behind until they reached the basement where the device went towards the wall in front of him and attached itself to before releasing a pulse of energy into the wall then the wall glowed with the lightning symbol before it slide open to reveal a dense metallic door with a hand print scanner.

Nathaniel calmly walked towards it and placed his right hand on the scanner and it started scanning him.

[DING: Handprint recognized, welcome home Mr Allen]

A female robotic voice spoke out the moment the scan was completed and the door slide opened again but this time there was not another instead Nathaniel's eyes welcomed a scene of technology that you will not see in the outside world.

The technologies ranged from the common lab and training techs to advance research materials there were also different areas or sections in the place. there was the monitoring section which contained multiple monitors keeping an eye on the city but the most attention-grabbing item in the room was the treadmill that was neatly placed in the training area of the base.

"Wow! I wonder what Alex's reaction will be when I tell her she has been living on top of such expensive equipment, hehe! Anyway, Alexia. Give me full details on this treadmill."

Nathaniel walked into the training area and went towards the treadmill. The very moment he laid eyes on it, Nathaniel knew that it wasn't normal and any smart person can figure that out if they were to that there is a treadmill inside the room of someone who can run faster than the speed of sound.

["The treadmill is an advance speed measuring device that can record the minimum speed of Mach 400 and the maximum speed of Mach 1000 without breaking."]

"Damn! Will I be that fast in the future? My current level is 9 and the system said that I could increase from level with no limit so it's possible."

Nathaniel was amazed at how fast he will become in the future if just levelled up but then another question came to his mind. From the letter, his future self warned him to be very careful if he ever encounters Phamtom.

"If my future self has this much speed and still wasn't able to defeat this speedster then how fast is he?"

Although this question made him a little uncomfortable, Nathaniel decided to leave it to his future self to worry about that. Nathaniel decided to increase his level to see what will happen and so he got onto the treadmill and started running while slowly increasing his speed until he was running at his top speed.

SIZZLE!!!

The white lightning aura that Nathaniel was releasing started becoming more denser and stronger as he focus on running until it finally happened as his level crossed level 10.

SHATTER!!

BOOM!

Nathaniel felt like something that was restraining him had been shattered and following that feeling his speed broke through to another level as the speed record on the treadmill started increasing like crazy until it stopped and settled at a maximum speed of Mach 20.

BANG!

Nathaniel, on the other hand, has already allowed himself to be consumed by the rush of his increased speed as a happy smile blossomed on his face while he run but then he magically slipped off the treadmill and collided with the force field that protects the training area and passed out.

At the entrance of Mercury Labs, you could see Nathaniel who is dressed in light blue jeans and white shirt with sneakers walking towards the door to the Lab.

"Welcome, Mr Allen. Please, this way."

The security guard respectfully greeted Nathaniel before showing him the elevator that goes to the very top floor of the facility. Nathaniel nodded his head in response to the guards greeting before entering the elevator.

The lift went straight to the top floor without stopping. It a few seconds to reach his destination and in those seconds Nathaniel was to arrange his thoughts and prepared answers for any questions that will be asked regarding why he is receiving the inheritance of someone he has no relation to.

DING!

The doors of the elevator opened up and Nathaniel calmly walked out of it and headed towards the only office he could see on this floor.

"Good morning and welcome to Mercury Labs, Mr Allen."

The moment Nathaniel reached the doors of the office, it was quickly opened from the inside by a man wearing and nice business suit who greeted him with a smile.

"Good morning to you too."

Nathaniel humbly responded to the greeting while also looking around the office. He noticed that place was actually a conference room while there were only three people present including him and the most notable person was the owner of the Labs, Christina McGee.

Christina gestured for Nathaniel to take a seat when she noticed him looking at her and Nathaniel did as told. The man who open the door also took a seat beside Nathaniel after he closed the door a brought out the inheritance documents from his bag and placed it in front of Nathaniel.

"Let me introduce myself first before we proceed, my name is Timothy Black and I'm the lawyer of the late Mr Willson."

The now-identified lawyer bought his hand close to Nathaniel for a handshake to which Nathaniel did and after that, he took the documents from him and glimpsed through them.

"So all I have to do is sign them and I will be able to lay claim to the position of co-owner of Mercury Labs?"

Nathaniel's question after looking through the inheritance documents was directed towards Christina who nodded her head before she began speaking.

"The last words that he said to me and Mr Timothy before his mysterious death was to hand over his raw and position of the company to you on January 1, 2014. But at that time we were informed of you being struck by lightning and going into a coma."

Christina had a very solemn expression when she mentioned the death of this Mr Willson who Nathaniel knows for a fact that he is still alive.
