Chapter 101 : Gwen Stacy

Every day I wake up knowing that the more people I try to save. The more enemies I will make.

~Spiderman

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New York, Queens, 27 Palme Street; this street sits at the junction of Brooklyn and Queens; no wonder Little Spider's home address often changes.

A Bugatti Veyron came to a halt in front of the house. Jude hesitated before assisting the inebriated Little Spider out of the car.

Thump, thump, thump...

In the doorway, a beautiful blonde exuding youth and vitality appeared. The door opened, and Jude and the girl exchanged glances.

"Hello, miss, you must be Gwen Stacy; Peter told me about you."

The girl smiled, "Please come in quickly, Mr. Herbert; show me to Peter."

"I'm afraid you can't help him. He is drunk and unconscious. Allow me to carry him back to his room."

An older lady with white hair and a kind demeanor emerged from the kitchen.

"Hello, sir, it seems you're Peter's boss. It's quite a hassle for you. I should be the one coming to get Peter back."

"No worries. Little Spider is an important employee. I take care of him. Where is his room?"

Aunt May hesitated, aware of Peter's fondness for Spider-Man. Little Spider seemed to be his code name at the research institute.

"Come with me, Mr. Herbert; Peter's room is on the second floor."

As Gwen led the way, Aunt May offered, "I'm going to make tea, sir; what would you like to drink?"

"Whatever you have; I have eclectic tastes."

Entering Little Spider's room, the interior was simple, with Spider-Man and Superman posters dominating the walls.

"This guy is quite narcissistic."

Jude tossed Little Spider onto the bed, leaving Gwen to tend to him.

Returning downstairs, Jude originally planned to leave after ensuring everyone was settled. However, the elderly Lady warmly invited him to stay for tea, making it challenging for Jude to decline. He reluctantly leaned on the sofa, plotting an excuse to leave after ten minutes, as a beautiful girl awaited him at home.

"Mr. Herbert, thank you for giving Peter such a good job. He's kind but naive, unfamiliar with the world. I was worried he might struggle in the newspaper."

"The research institute suits him better. There's less intrigue, and he excels in school. His reputation as a scientist is noteworthy."

"Peter mentioned that the Daily Bugle's boss, Jameson, always targeted him and docked his wages for various reasons," added Gwen as they descended the stairs.

Jude smiled, "Rest assured, Jameson, his original boss, is no more. Perhaps his abrasive nature rubbed too many people the wrong way, and now he won't be able to target Peter anymore."

"I'm a generous person. As long as Little Spider works hard, he earns several times more than at the newspaper."

Aunt May, grateful, said, "Thank you. Peter lost his parents early. My husband passed away a year ago, and there's financial pressure at home. You're our savior."

Jude took a sip of tea, smiling, "I'm not that great. If Peter needs money, with his abilities, he could rob any bank. After all, he's Spider-Man."

"But he chose not to. Instead, he lives an ordinary life with heroic deeds behind his back. That's why I value him. He possesses rare qualities."

Glancing at the time, Jude intended to stay a few more minutes to avoid seeming impolite. However, the two women stared at him strangely after he finished speaking.

Jude frowned, "What's wrong?"

Aunt May, looking uneasy, put down her teacup, "Sorry, sir, what did you say just now? Peter is Spider-Man?"

Gwen Stacey, too, looked surprised.

Jude realized they were unaware of Little Spider's identity.

"Mr. Herbert, I thought Little Spider was Peter's nickname, but you mentioned he's the good neighbor of that New Yorker Spider-Man?"

"Uh... Perhaps there's a misunderstanding. As a scientist, I must explain a phenomenon: the night auditory hallucination syndrome."

"It's a rare disease where, at night, if we frequently hear a word, like 'spider,' and then hear another word, like 'Peter,' the mind subconsciously combines them, assuming Peter is Spider-Man. Of course, that's just his nickname. Everyone knows he likes Spider-Man, even having posters in his room. That's it."

Gwen Stacey pinched her waist, asking, "So both Aunt Mei and I contracted this rare disease at the same time? Our luck is unparalleled."

Jude shrugged, "It's true; I apologize. I should take my leave now. If you have any questions, wait for Peter to wake up and ask him yourself. Don't see me out; bye!"

Boom!

The Bugatti Veyron's engine roared to life, and Jude let out a sigh of relief.

"Little Spider, best of luck. You'll have to face this eventually. I just expedited the process. Look at it this way; you should thank me."

Back at the hotel, as soon as Jude opened the door, Ivy, wearing a charming expression, began unbuttoning her pajamas.

"Jude Herbert, you made me wait so long, you know?"

"No, blame it all on Little Spider. He insisted on drinking, not expecting it to affect him so much. If he didn't have a bottle, he'd probably collapse."

"As a boss who cares about his subordinates, how could I leave him in the cold laboratory? So I kindly escorted him home. That's it. It's all Peter's fault."

Ivy scolded Little Spider silently, then gazed at Jude affectionately.

"Enough of the nonsense; otherwise, we won't get any sleep until midnight."

"Wait a moment, baby. I need to take a bath. I dissected someone today, and there's still a lot of blood on me."

Ivy wrapped her arms around his neck, breathing in the rich fragrance near his earlobes. "I don't mind; it makes me more interested."

"Suddenly, I feel a little excited. Did you use something?"

"Hormones. How's the newly developed ability? Is it effective?"

Jude lifted her up, saying, "Very effective. I just think you're the only one in the world."

"What are you waiting for?"

Rip!

The clothes shattered.

"Haha..."
