a price to be paid

Turning towards the Mayor's man David was still smiling as the other two men left suddenly with a sense of urgency.

"Wha What did you do to them? What are you going to do to me, I never tried to hurt as they did!" in a pleading tone the man rambled on.

"I sent them on a mission, people will die, they should never have tried to betray my goodwill. I see John wanted you to come back to him with a sample so he could try to produce it, what an idiot"

David kept quiet, he was debating on who should go to John, if he sent Steph alone the man would never be found in one piece, she was very protective. Should he scare him, remove him, or leave him to harm himself?

He knew from the man's mind that John was waiting in a house on the outskirts of New York, maybe a home visit was in order.

While this was happening, the men who had left through the door was taken into the tunnel network to their new homes, after nanites were inserted they would be allowed to go inform their families.

David grinned at the man; "You might want to stay close."

They appeared outside the estate John was waiting at, the moment people appeared and headed for the gate the security reported it.

"Two men and woman heading towards the gate, the one-man looks allot like ours. Shall I WHAT THE HELL, the front gate, it has just disintegrated, like it was sand! They are heading in, permission to fight, they do not look like friendlies!"

The Captain of the guard instantly gave permission to use firearms, although this proved to be useless.

"All our bullets are stopping in the air, I don't think they are even bothering him, hell the girl just stopped to pick a damn rose!"

John was scared, what had he done he had been in two minds about betraying David trust but felt getting his hands on something that would help more of the men survive was the right thing to do.

He never really considered what to do if David found out.

As they reached the front of the building, it began to crumble into dust. It was like some large machine had just scrapped the front away. John could be seen nervously pacing back and forth as his wife was trying hard to understand the situation and calm him down.

They then noticed the building front was now missing, and standing in front was David, with Steph at the side admiring a white rose, scrambling behind David was the man he had sent, he looked terrified as he was attempting to get as close to David as possible without actually touching him.

At this point, the guard has already run out of ammunition and the almost solid curtain of bullets that surrounded them collapsed to the ground.

"You betrayed me, John, you tried to steal from me. I do not believe I have done anything to harm you, in fact, I believe I have only helped you." David was speaking in a very even, unemotional tone as his gaze on John did not seem to waver.

"I Just wanted to help the men fighting!"

"You tried to steal John, a crime is a crime, or does the Mayor believe that does not apply to him?"

John was speechless, even though his thoughts were noble, his actions were not, he could not deny that. Next to John, his wife held his arm tightly, she slowly seemed to be understanding the situation.

"Very well, I will take all I have given you, the advice and the warnings. Of course, this will set you on your original path." David looked to John's wife and sighed lightly, "I am sorry, but your husband will not be with you for as long as you hope. I am merely setting him back on the path Fate originally had for him, make the most of your time."

As the woman's eye grew large David had completed wiping John's mind. The building and gate restored themselves as David and Steph vanished.
