Chapter 22: filler chapter??

****Kar-el P.O.V.

The year 2000 was the year where the dot com bubble was its peak and it was also the year where it started to burst. During Clinton's presidency, Internet Tech giants started to emerge such as Amazon, Google while Microsoft was fighting a case against the U.S.

If you asked me what caused the bubble to burst, I would say that there was not a single event rather a series of events that caused the bursting of the bubble but the most prominent was the result coming in the favor of the U.S. in the U.S. vs Microsoft corp. which caused the stock investor to sell tech shares in bulk which created a snowball effect.

While I couldn't make use of events that had already happened, I could still make use of events that were about to happen soon.

I needed to gather some initial capital fast so that I could participate in the massacre that will happen in a few days and then keep making more by participating in the next month's grand massacre.

We had lunch down on the ground floor around two hours after I bathed before they returned to their rooms and I walked to the nearest place that let me access a computer with an internet connection.

I spend 3/4 of my remaining money to book it for myself with unlimited access to the internet during the period.

My objective was to check how much time I had left to make my move by checking the statistics of the share market.

While the share market was said to be chaotic and unpredictable if you know some events that were about to happen it was really easy to predict what would happen with the help of maths.

After I was done with my initial information gathering of the market, I get to my second objective of the day. I was more familiar with the technology than any of run-of-mill hackers, so I made a lot of loopholes around the globe and planted dummies in different places. Some were easier to find while some were carefully hidden. I could have archived more but since I didn't have the required program prepared, I couldn't do more with the time I had with me.

I was done hiding my I.P. address completely that if someone didn't spend at least a month looking for it and they were above the norm in hacking, they would not find it.

Once I was done with that, I found a corrupt government official and silently stole some important documents from his server that if come to light would end his career.

After that, I send him an email asking for 20k $ cash in the night at an abandoned place while blackmailing him that if he didn't fulfill the condition then I would make the documents public.

I got the reply after an hour as I played some games to pass the time. He agreed to the deal.

Honestly speaking if I wanted to, I could have obtained more money just from the hacking but if I tried to fly higher than necessary right now, I would definitely attract attention that I didn't need right now.

****Carol P.O.V.

"So you are saying that you followed him everywhere and listened to everything that he said?" I asked tania in our shared room as Anita rubbed her back in an attempt to calm her down.

"You should have been at that time when he casually dealt with 4 people without a single sweat. He didn't even blink as he stabbed the guy between his fingers. I was pretty sure at that time that if he was alone with them, he would have killed them. " She replied as she hugged her legs.

"And you invited such a guy to work for your mother?" Anita asked her as she looked at her before turning toward me.

I just shrugged as she replied," I know that it looks like a bad decision at first but I thought about it a lot. Being capable of hurting someone and hurting someone had a big difference. Dogs are capable of killing too but we still keep them. "

"Wait up, you think of him like a dog?" I asked flabbergasted.

" No way, I was just giving an example. Let me finish it. What I meant to say is that he could have chosen to deal with them and then do the unspeakable with me like the bastards were planning to do but he didn't do anything at all. He was rude, liked to do things his way but he returned all my accessories even though he could keep them. " She turned to Anita before continuing," He could have left me to my own devices once he saved me but he didn't, and most importantly he was about to leave once he was sure that I reached to you guys safety without waiting for for some reward. "

"Okay, let's say that you are right but even then isn't it too much to let him stay at your house?" Anita questioned her softly.

"I was adopted by mom at a very young age so I don't know what's it's like to be on the streets but it's clearly not a fun experience.

Our house already has 6 people living in it that are all adopted by mom at some point so im sure they won't mind if he takes a bedroom for himself. Though he would have to pay for it. " She replied before we heard a knock on the door.

I nodded at them both before turning and opening the door once I checked from the keyhole that dad was on the opposite side of it.

"Yes, dad? " I asked him as I make way for him to enter.

He entered and looked at Tania before he spoke, " Well, Our common friend just met me near the reception and told me that he needs to take care of some things so he would be returning in the morning. "

"Where would he be staying then? " Anita asked confused to which he just shrugged.

" I am more interested in seeing if he would return in the morning. " He said before he left the room.

**** Kar-el P.O.V.

I slowly walked toward the appointed place while carefully checking out everyone with my x-ray vision. I needed to make sure that if the official planed a trap for me, I would not get discovered.

I was right about being careful as I already spotted two people that were carrying guns but they never expected to encounter someone like me.

I ignored them for now as guns couldn't be considered a threat to me since my kyptonian durability was completely unlocked even though I might not have the strength yet.

What I needed to be careful of was to hide my identity and safely escape before they reached me. I couldn't care less if they fired a shot at me since it would do nothing to me.

Just before five minutes to the appointed time, I was ready with an escape route and was hiding behind a wall near the exact spot where he would leave the money.

Just two minutes before the appointed time he appeared alone with a small paper bag containing the cash, he acted like he didn't plant his goons to intercept anyone who tried to get the money but I could clearly see them getting ready for action as soon as he appeared.

He walked calmly toward the designated place which was also inside an alley so that I could quickly use parkour to run away because of my strength.

Once he reached the place, he looked at his watch. And once the appointed time came, he simply walked away while leaving the paper bag on the place.

After he exited the alley I quickly took action as I leaped over the wall through a window and picked the money bag and hid it inside my jacket.

I had hidden by the face behind a face mask made of wool while I was waiting for me so the goons would not be able to identify me unless they caught up to me and removed it.

They were quick to move once they spotted me but instead of exiting the alley, I just started to climb the walls with the help of my strength and agility.

In a few seconds, I was on the roof while they could only watch in wonder. I didn't dwell there for more than a second as I quickly sprinted toward a crowded street while jumping across connected roofs.

Author note: A few hours late I know but I had to take my car for service today which took some time while also researching a bit about the dot com bubble to use it on this and later chapters but as compensation, I wrote 150 more words.
