Chapter 9

Returning from the mall with the other students from Xavier's Institute, Harry was practically buzzing with excitement. Kitty's infectious enthusiasm for shopping had turned what could have been a mundane trip into an epic adventure. With her leading the charge, they had scoured every store, tried on countless outfits, and even indulged in a bit of impromptu fashion show fun.

As they emerged from the mall, laden with bags of new clothes and accessories, Harry couldn't help but feel a surge of energy coursing through him. The arcade visit with Kurt had been the icing on the cake, with adrenaline-pumping games and friendly competition fueling their laughter and banter.

Now, as they made their way back to Xavier's Institute, Harry felt like he was walking on air. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and he was surrounded by friends who felt more like family with each passing day. It was moments like these that made him grateful for the adventures and camaraderie that came with life at the institute.

With a grin plastered on his face and a skip in his step, Harry knew that the fun was far from over. As Harry's time at Xavier's Institute reached its one-month milestone, a special occasion loomed on the horizon: his upcoming birthday.

Unlike the neglected celebrations of his past at the Dursleys', this birthday held the promise of something different.

In the weeks leading up to the big day, Harry found himself caught up in a whirlwind of excitement and anticipation. His friends at the institute buzzed with enthusiasm, eager to make his birthday a memorable affair. From planning parties to brainstorming gift ideas, everyone seemed determined to ensure that Harry's special day would be one to remember.

For Harry, who had grown accustomed to the quiet solitude of his birthdays, the outpouring of warmth and affection from his new friends was both overwhelming and heartwarming. Each gesture, no matter how small, served as a reminder that he was no longer alone—that he was surrounded by people who cared for him deeply.

As the days passed and his birthday drew nearer, Harry found himself looking forward to the festivities with a newfound sense of joy and anticipation. The prospect of spending his birthday surrounded by friends who accepted him for who he was filled him with a sense of belonging and happiness that he had never experienced before.

"Hey, Harry!" Ororo greeted with a warm smile as Harry entered the common area. "How was your day? Did you have fun at the mall?"

Harry returned her smile, nodding enthusiastically. "Yeah, it was great! Kitty and Kurt showed me around, and we had a blast shopping and playing games at the arcade."

Ororo chuckled at his excitement. "Sounds like you had quite the adventure. Well, just so you know, Professor Xavier was looking for you. He said he wanted to speak with you about something important."

Harry's curiosity piqued at the mention of the professor's summons. "Thanks, Ororo. I'll go find him right away." With a grateful nod, he headed off to locate Professor Xavier, wondering what awaited him in their impending conversation.

As Harry made his way to Professor Xavier's office, his newly acquired psychic senses buzzed with activity, alerting him to the presence of another powerful mind in the room. With each step closer, the sense of familiarity grew stronger, unmistakably identifying the aura of Professor Dumbledore.

Curiosity piqued, Harry couldn't help but wonder what could bring Dumbledore to the Xavier Institute. As he approached the door, his mind raced with possibilities. Has something happened at Hogwarts?

With a sense of anticipation, Harry knocked on the door of Professor Xavier's office, the sound echoing softly in the corridor. Behind the door, he could sense the presence of powerful minds engaged in conversation, their thoughts intermingling in a complex dance of intellect and emotion.

As he waited for a response, Harry's mind raced with curiosity, eager to discover the reason for Dumbledore's unexpected visit. With each passing moment, the anticipation grew, heightening his senses and sharpening his focus on the conversation unfolding within the confines of the office.

After a brief pause, the door swung open, revealing Professor Xavier seated behind his desk, his expression welcoming and attentive.

"Ah, Harry," Xavier greeted him with a warm smile. "Please come in. Professor Dumbledore and I were just discussing a matter of great importance, and your presence is most timely."

Dumbledore's keen gaze lingered on Harry, his perceptive eyes taking in the subtle changes that had occurred in the young wizard over the past month. There was a newfound confidence in Harry's demeanor, a sense of strength and resilience that seemed to radiate from within.

"Harry, my boy," Dumbledore began, his tone warm and affectionate. "It's good to see you again. I couldn't help but notice that you've grown taller and stronger since our last meeting. It seems that your time here at Xavier's has been quite transformative."

Harry's eyes sparkled with a mixture of pride and excitement, his newfound abilities and growth not lost on him. "Thank you, Professor Dumbledore," he replied, his voice tinged with enthusiasm. "It's been an incredible journey so far, and I'm eager to continue learning and growing."

Dumbledore nodded in approval, his gaze softening with paternal affection. "Indeed, Harry. The path to self-discovery is a wondrous one, filled with challenges and triumphs alike. I have every confidence that you will continue to excel in your endeavors, both magical and mutant."

As Harry sat opposite Dumbledore and Xavier, his heart pounding with anticipation as he awaited their news. The solemn expressions on their faces hinted at the gravity of the situation, and Harry couldn't help but feel a twinge of anxiety gnawing at his insides.

Dumbledore cleared his throat, his gaze steady as he fixed Harry with a penetrating stare. "Harry, I'm afraid I must inform you of some troubling news," he began, his voice grave with concern. "Sirius Black has escaped from Azkaban."

Dumbledore noticed Harry's confusion and proceeded to explain the history of Sirius Black. He detailed Sirius's connection to Harry's parents, James and Lily Potter, as well as his own role as Harry's godfather. Dumbledore recounted the events leading up to Sirius's imprisonment in Azkaban, including his alleged betrayal of the Potters to Voldemort, and the subsequent loss of Peter Pettigrew, who was believed to have been murdered by Sirius.

As Dumbledore spoke, Harry listened intently, piecing together the fragments of information to form a clearer picture of the man who had once been an integral part of his parents' lives. Despite the gravity of the situation, Harry couldn't shake the feeling of unease that gnawed at him, wondering if there was more to Sirius Black's story than he had been led to believe.

"Harry," Dumbledore stated, his voice steady yet tinged with concern, "in light of his escape, new information has come to light regarding Sirius Black's case."

Harry's curiosity piqued, his attention fully focused on Dumbledore as he awaited further explanation.

"As it turns out," Dumbledore continued, "there were discrepancies in the handling of Sirius's trial, or rather, the lack thereof."

Harry's brows furrowed in confusion, a sense of bewilderment creeping over him. "What do you mean, Professor?" he asked, his voice tinged with uncertainty.

Dumbledore sighed, his gaze unwavering as he met Harry's eyes. "It appears that Sirius Black was never given a trial at all," he explained, his tone grave.

Harry's eyes widened in shock, disbelief washing over him as he processed Dumbledore's words. "But how is that possible?" he exclaimed, his voice tinged with incredulity. "Isn't everyone entitled to a fair trial?"

Dumbledore nodded solemnly, acknowledging the gravity of the situation. "Indeed, Harry. Every individual is entitled to due process under the law," he replied, his tone somber. "But it seems that, in Sirius's case, this fundamental right was denied to him."

Harry's mind raced with questions, his thoughts swirling with the implications of this revelation. If Sirius Black had never been given a trial, then what did that mean for his conviction? And more importantly, what did it mean for the truth of what had transpired on that fateful night so many years ago?

As Harry grappled with the enormity of the situation, Dumbledore's next words cut through the haze of confusion, drawing his attention back to the present.

"We must delve deeper into this matter, Harry," Dumbledore said, his voice resolute. "We cannot ignore the possibility that there has been a grave miscarriage of justice. Sirius Black's innocence may yet be proven, but we must tread carefully and gather all the facts before drawing any conclusions."

Harry nodded, a sense of determination settling over him as he absorbed Dumbledore's words. If there was even the slightest chance that Sirius Black had been wrongfully convicted, then it was their duty to uncover the truth and ensure that justice prevailed.

"That is not all, Harry!" Xavier interjects, "Apparently Sirius Black is also your Godfather."

Xavier's revelation added another layer of complexity to an already convoluted situation. Harry's mind reeled at the implications of Sirius Black being not only an escaped convict but also his own godfather.

"Sirius Black is my godfather?" Harry repeated, his voice tinged with disbelief. The news hit him like a bolt from the blue, stirring up a whirlwind of emotions within him.

Xavier nodded solemnly, his expression mirroring Harry's solemnity. "Yes, Harry," he confirmed, his tone gentle yet firm. "According to the information we've received, Sirius Black was named as your godfather by your parents, James and Lily Potter."

Harry's thoughts raced as he tried to make sense of this new revelation. Sirius Black, the man accused of betraying his parents and betraying everything they stood for, was also the person they had chosen to be his guardian in the event of their passing.

"It doesn't make sense," Harry muttered, his brow furrowed in confusion. "Why would my parents choose Sirius as my godfather if they knew he was capable of betraying them?"

Xavier's expression softened with understanding as he regarded Harry. "I'm afraid we don't have all the answers yet, Harry," he admitted. "But rest assured, we will do everything in our power to uncover the truth and ensure that justice is served."

"I assure you, Harry," Dumbledore states, "As we speak, Madam Amelia Bones, who is the current head of DMLE, is working hard to ensure Sirius gets a trial."

Dumbledore's reassurance brought a measure of comfort to Harry, alleviating some of the anxiety that had gripped him since learning of Sirius Black's escape and his godfather's tumultuous past.

"I understand, Professor," Harry replied, his voice steadier now as he absorbed Dumbledore's words. "I just hope that Sirius gets the chance to prove his innocence and clear his name."

Dumbledore nodded in agreement, his expression grave yet determined. "As do I, Harry," he said solemnly. "Madam Bones is a dedicated and capable leader, and I have every confidence that she will ensure that Sirius receives a fair trial."

Harry found solace in Dumbledore's unwavering faith in the integrity of the wizarding justice system. Despite the challenges and obstacles that lay ahead, he knew that they would persevere in their quest for truth and justice.

"Thank you, Professor," Harry said sincerely, his gratitude evident in his tone. "I trust that you and Professor Xavier will keep me informed of any developments."

Dumbledore offered him a reassuring smile, his eyes twinkling with warmth and understanding. "Of course, Harry," he replied. "We will navigate this journey together, every step of the way. There is, how6, something we need your help with."

Dumbledore's words piqued Harry's curiosity, stirring a sense of anticipation within him. He knew that when Dumbledore spoke of matters requiring his assistance, they were often of great importance and significance.

"What is it, Professor?" Harry asked, his voice tinged with curiosity as he awaited Dumbledore's response.

Dumbledore regarded him with a thoughtful expression, his eyes shimmering with a mixture of wisdom and determination.

"There is another matter that requires your help, Harry," Dumbledore began, his tone grave yet resolute. "It concerns a young witch named Susan Bones."

Harry's interest was immediately piqued at the mention of Susan's name. Harry couldn't shake the memory of Susan Bones's reaction when the rumors of him being the Heir of Slytherin were circulating at Hogwarts. He recalled the uncertainty in her eyes, the cautious distance she maintained as suspicion clouded the air.

It was a reminder of the challenges he had faced during his time at Hogwarts, the whispers and accusations that had followed him like a shadow. Susan's reaction had been just one of many, but it had left a lasting impression on him.

"What about Susan?" Harry inquired, his voice tinged with concern and curiosity.

He leaned forward slightly, his eyes focused intently on Dumbledore, eager to learn more about the situation concerning Susan Bones.

Dumbledore's expression softened as he regarded Harry, his gaze reflecting a mixture of reassurance and solemnity. "Susan Bones has found herself in a rather... unusual predicament," he explained carefully, choosing his words with precision. "It appears that she has been experiencing some... shall we say, unexplained magical occurrences."

Harry's brow furrowed in concern as he absorbed Dumbledore's words. Unexplained magical occurrences were not uncommon among young witches and wizards, especially during times of heightened emotion or stress. But there was something in Dumbledore's tone that hinted at a deeper complexity to Susan's situation, something that warranted closer scrutiny.

"What kind of occurrences?" Harry asked, his voice betraying a hint of apprehension. He couldn't help but wonder what could be causing such disturbances in Susan's magic, and what it might mean for her well-being.

Dumbledore hesitated for a moment, his gaze thoughtful as he considered his next words. "It seems that Susan has been experiencing bouts of accidental magic," he replied finally, his tone grave yet measured. "Manifestations of her magical abilities that occur without conscious intent or control."

Harry's eyes widened in surprise at Dumbledore's revelation. Accidental magic was a natural part of a young witch or wizard's development, but for someone like Susan, who was no longer a child, it raised questions about the underlying cause of these occurrences.

"Is she in any danger?" Harry asked, his concern deepening as he thought of Susan facing such unpredictable magic on her own.

Dumbledore shook his head gently, his expression reassuring. "For the moment, Susan is safe," he assured Harry. "But these occurrences are cause for concern, especially given their unpredictable nature."

"Dumbledore suspects Susan may be another Magical Mutant," Xavier relayed to Harry.

Harry's brow furrowed in concern as he absorbed the news. The revelation that Susan might be another Magical Mutant added another layer of complexity to an already tumultuous situation. He couldn't shake the memories of his own struggles with his magical and mutant abilities.

"I understand," Harry replied, his tone serious yet determined. "If Susan is going through something similar to what I experienced, then she'll need all the support and guidance we can offer."

Xavier nodded in agreement, his gaze unwavering as he met Harry's determined gaze. "Indeed, Harry," he said solemnly. "We must do everything in our power to help Susan embrace her abilities and navigate this new chapter in her magical journey."

As Harry and Xavier discussed the situation further, Dumbledore observed them both with a sense of quiet satisfaction. He had seen firsthand the strength and resilience that Harry had displayed in the face of adversity, and he knew that with Xavier's guidance, Susan would have the best possible chance to overcome whatever challenges lay ahead.

"I have every confidence in you, Harry," Dumbledore said, his voice filled with warmth and reassurance. "You have faced your own trials and tribulations, and emerged stronger for it. I have no doubt that you will extend the same support and compassion to Susan as she embarks on this journey of self-discovery."

Harry nodded, feeling a swell of determination rising within him. "Thank you, Professor," he replied earnestly. "I'll do everything I can to help Susan."

Xavier placed a reassuring hand on Harry's shoulder, offering a supportive smile. "We're in this together, Harry," he said, his voice steady and reassuring. "Together, we'll make sure Susan receives the support she needs to thrive."

Dumbledore's eyes twinkled with pride as he looked upon the two of them. "Indeed," he agreed warmly. "I have every confidence that we will rise to the occasion."

With Dumbledore's words of encouragement bolstering his spirits, Harry exchanged a determined nod with the two Professors, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead. Together, they would help Susan unlock her true potential and embrace her identity as a Magical Mutant.
