Chapter 32

J had a tough time just now, and his body still felt sore all over. He took out his sunglasses and put them on.

Weaver looked at J as if she was looking at a fool. 'It's dark out, why is he wearing sunglasses?'

"Okay, okay, you don't have to pose like your James Bond or something, take that off. I'll report to Zed and ask them to send a cleanup crew and wait for us at the retirement party."

"Hey, Chief! No, we're not playing around outside. Did you guys detect atomic energy fluctuations? No, we aren't playing around with the new guns. A Bug tried to use one of the ships in the World Expo... yeah. J killed it."

"Okay, we'll wait here. Keep K's party going, we'll be there."

Hanging up the phone, Noah looked at Weaver, "You seem to have a lot of questions?"

"Noah, do you guys kill aliens for a living? So, are there a lot of aliens living on Earth? How many are there?"

"There aren't as many as you think. At any given time, there are around 1500 aliens on the planet. The MIB are managing them, we don't kill indiscriminately. But, I have taken some of them out." J adjusted his black suit, waiting to hear Weaver's admiration.

"You and Noah are partners? But I just saw you got your ass handed to you by that insect-like alien. Are you sure he's not your boss or something?" Weaver looked at J skeptically. 'If someone like him can join the MIB, why can't I?'

Noah patted J on the shoulder, "You need me to tell her about your special training days? Stand back, I'll handle this."

J glanced at Noah grudgingly. 'What's the use of telling this girl so much? Even if he doesn't neuralize her now, when the cleanup crew gets here, they're still going to pull out their neuralyzers.'

"Noah, you guys have dissected alien bodies, right? Is there a special person for that? How are alien bodies different from us earthlings? Or other creatures on earth?" Weaver's eyes lit up, this was something she was very interested in.

She had dreamed of being able to dissect an alien one day and learn about the greatness and wonders of the universe.

Now that the opportunity was in front of her, she had to seize it!

She doesn't remember that she had dissected two Arquillian bodies, or perhaps the puppet bodies controlled by Arquillians.

"There seems to be such a department within the organization, but the two of us are out in the field, mainly responsible for capturing alien criminals."

Noah found that Weaver's eyes lit up at the mention of aliens. When Weaver spoke about dissecting her eyes seemed particularly bright. He seemed to have seen this kind of look before.

"Are you still hiring? I graduated from Harvard Medical School. I currently work at Reese Hospital in New York. I'm also a deputy medical examiner for the NYPD. I'm very good at anatomy."

"And I can work for free! You're a secret department, right? I can sign a confidentiality agreement to guarantee that all discoveries won't be made public."

"N, what does the MIB think? Can just anyone join? Ma'am, I'm sorry, I don't think we have any say in letting people join. Besides, aren't you afraid of seeing more of those Bugs?" J couldn't help but say so.

"Why? Are you afraid? It's just a big cockroach. As a matter of fact, I also minored in veterinary medicine in college, with a focus on insects."

"So, who was the one who jumped out of the bushes with a scream and almost got me stabbed by a bug?" J couldn't help but mention.

"There were too many of them, and they crawled up my leg. Next time, I'm sure I won't be afraid."

"Noah, you'll help me, won't you?" Weaver blinked her big eyes and pitifully looked at Noah.

"Hey, N, why are you hesitating? Tell her to stop dreaming. This is our job, not something you use to chase girls." J frowned. 'Noah wouldn't really agree, would he?'

"Come on J, it wouldn't hurt to try. Weaver, are you sure you want to join? You do know that once you join, you'll have to say goodbye to your normal life. Forever."

"You will lose all your friends, all your relatives, all your colleagues, neighbors, any acquaintances who might think of you. You'll have to treat them as strangers. In this world, except for the organization, nobody will ever know you exist."

"J used to be a cop for the NYPD. You actually know each other, but do you remember him now? After joining the organization, you will also face the same situation."

Weaver looked at J and carefully thought about it, "We knew each other? You were with the NYPD?"

"Of course, I was a detective for the NYPD. I've caught a lot of criminals before." J proudly raised his chin.

"Sorry, I really don't remember. I don't even think there's been a detective with the initial's J in the NYPD these last few years. Oh, I remember a Sergeant Sam J. Raphael!"

"Raphael was promoted to Sergeant because of me!" J gritted his teeth.

"Weaver, think about it. The loneliness of joining an organization is not something you can imagine. Ok, one moment. The crew is here."

A van drove up from a distance. A man dressed like Noah, wearing sunglasses and carrying a suitcase, came down.

"N, J, we'll take care of it. This is the witness, right? Okay, if you could come with me. Let's test your eyesight first." Agent E, of logistics, held up the neuralyzer.

Noah grabbed E's wrist, "Please wait, I'm going to ask Zed if she could apply to the MIB. She has the stuff for it, and is a medical professional."

E frowned, "N, you're not a senior agent, and you don't have the qualifications to recommend anyone right now. The Chief hasn't notified anyone of any plans of recruiting new people right now."

"E, I'll call Zed right now. If there's any kind of problem, I'll take responsibility. If Zed disagrees, I'll neuralyze her myself."

E didn't want to have any problems with N right now. He understood that Noah was a candidate to become one of the organization's top agents in the future. The guys at the office pantry were still talking about how he single-handedly killed a Bug.

Zed was praising this kid for taking care of another Bug this time. Maybe soon N would become a top agent, then a senior agent, and probably become the Chief in no time.

"N! Seriously man? You aren't blinded by beauty, right?" J felt that Noah's decision was too hasty. 'You just joined the MIB. Are you seriously thinking of poking the hierarchy that soon?'

"J, taking out the Bug with one shot just now should get you an early promotion, right?" Noah asked with a wicked smile.

"Well, I know you helped me. Otherwise, you would have taken out the Bug a long time ago. If Zed is thinking of firing you because of this, I'll go with you." J clenched his teeth and made a decision.

"J, I don't think the Chief values you as much as you think. Even if you went on a strike, I think he'll let me stay, but fire you."

"Damn, man! You shouldn't have said it like that! I thought we were best friends?!"
