Fandom Rants

A book where I talk about my opinion on various shows. From Miraculous to Winx, Monsuno to Pokemon, Inuyasha to Jujustu kai and more. I will write about what I think of the characters, the plot, and any ships in the show. It is a free discussion where any opinion is allowed. (as long as it is not vulgar or offensive in any way)

Miraculous- The Reveal

Ah yes. The reveal. Very annoying.

So far into the series, Miraculous has had three reveals. The first is Oblivio, then Chat Blanc, and lastly Ephemeral.

In Oblivio, the reveal happens when Marinette and Adrien lose their memories. They realize that they know each other and have already fallen for one another but couldn't remember. They kiss and their memory resets once the villain is defeated.

In Chat Blanc, Adrien figures out Marinette is Ladybug when she delivers a present from Marinette as Ladybug since she was incapable of getting into Adrien's mansion. Adrien approaches Marinette and kisses her. Time skipped and they are dating and going to fashion shows together.

Hawk Moth, Gabriel, tries to ruin Adrien and Marinette's relationship by telling Marinette she cannot be with Adrien. In doing so, Gabriel plans to use Marinette's heartbroken feelings to akumatize her.

Before she is akumatized Adrien turns into Cat Noir and destroys the akuma. Nataly sees this and tells Gabriel. Gabriel then uses this and shows Adrien his comatose mother who is underneath the house. After figuring out his father is Hawk Moth and his mother isn't dead, Adrien starts spiraling.

Gabriel akumatizes him and Adrien turns into Chat Blanc. He destroys Paris in the original timeline. Bunnix comes in and goes into the past before Adrien figures out Marinette is Ladybug. She brings Marinette into the future so she can stop the events that happen. Ladybug saves the day and all is well while their identities are still a secret.

In Ephemeral, Adrien reveals his identity because of circumstance. Marinette has a hard time processing that Adrien is Chat Noir and keeps seeing Chat Noir in Adrien. Luka helps Marinette through her mini crisis and she ends up revealing herself to Adrien.

All is well until Gabriel eventually figures out his son is Chat Noir, again. Adrien gets akumatized and we have to go back in time again but with Viperion.

Honestly, it was so predictable.

Every time there is a reveal something goes wrong. This is the creator's way of saying that the reveal isn't ready to happen.

But each time there is a reveal, there is also progression in the way the characters handle it. The first time there is a reveal it isn't much of a reveal. It simply shows us what the reveal would look like if our characters stopped over-thinking everything or started thinking.

In the second reveal, the characters don't feel much aside from love when the reveal happens. The reaction is immediate and the characters don't give it much thought.

In the third reveal, we get more of a reaction from Marinette. She starts to see Chat Noir wherever Adrien is and feels insecure about revealing herself to him, thinking he would be disappointed.

This is the reaction the viewers expected, Marinette feeling that Adrien's emotions aren't real. That he loves Ladybug and not her. The show doesn't show it as extensively as fan-fics but I have a feeling it is getting there.

I have always been annoyed that in the last two reveals, the show bypassed the emotions that would come out of the reveal. It instantly skips to the 'happy ending' and doesn't give the characters time to work through their feelings.

In the first reveal, they both discover their identity and feelings for one another at the same time. The second reveal shows how the reveal would go if Adrien discovered Marinette's identity first and vice-versa in the third reveal.

Adrien is too accepting and doesn't think about his feelings much. All he knows is that he loves Ladybug and has devoted himself to whoever was under the mask. He doesn't think about the fact that he never romantically loved Marinette before figuring out her identity.

Marinette being Marinette, over-thinks everything when she discovers Adrien's identity. Only with the help of Luka does she figure out that it doesn't matter that Chat Noir is Adrien. That figuring out who Adrien is, makes her love him more.

The show shows us different perspectives while also temporarily satisfying some viewers with a reveal. Honestly, I'm not worried about the reveal. I don't think it can happen until Hawk Moth is defeated or until Adrien is able to cope with the fact that his father is the man he has been fighting. No matter the perspective the result is always the same because of that factor.

As annoyingly persistent as Marinette is about not revealing their identities, she is right. The reveal will happen when the time is right and both our characters are emotionally stable.
