Dilemma

The uneasy feeling in Aaron's heart was stronger than ever, as if the heavens wanted to add to add to his troubles, the mist was at its thickest in the southern part of the city.

'Lily... Please be safe' Aaron prayed while already running towards his trusty ol' white car.

Stomping on the pedal as hard as he could, the car shot forward kicking up a cloud of dust amidst the ominous darkness leaving the onlookers bewildered.

Is this man nuts or what? He should be running away from the southern part of the city not towards it!

After all it is just a great storm, why such urgency? It's not like this is the end of the world or some calamity and he'd be better off staying in one place than running around.

They thought, how wishful their thinking is for they'd wished they were not alive to witness what is about to become of the world they loved.

Fortunately Aaron decided to trust his instincts and no longer ignored the feeling of unease in his heart, acting on it already.

He felt as if something really bad is about to happen and he rather have Lily by his side when it does, he is never the one to joke with his loved ones' safety.

Aaron is sweating buckets as of right now as he drive through the familiar city roads, it is a great pain in the arse finding his way through the darkness and this goddamned fog.

'Is this... dooms day?' Aaron couldn't helped but thought, fearful of what is about to happen if his guess is truly correct.

If not doomsday, then what is this?

He is normally not the super-religious type of guy but at this moment, he felt that this reality is slowly edging towards the description of the 'end-days' as described in the religious books.

A hundred thought raced through his mind at this point, with majority of them being what-ifs.

What if the sun truly disappear?

What about the heavy dependence of life on solar energy?

What if the Government had foreseen all this and therefore began building the great sanctuary?

And why haven't they announce it? It could've save them some troubles!

'And why is this mist so damn thick?' Aaron cursed and wished that some sort of help will arrive in this dark streets.

This time, it was if the heavens heard his prayer for the streets were illuminated.

By what you might ask...

Street lights of course!

"Phew..."

Aaron released a sigh of relief yet his expression suddenly turn grim, for with the increase of visibility came the figure of human!

Man or woman, from this angle he couldn't tell but one thing is for sure, he need to act fast, really fast or he might send this man human back to its maker!

"Aotl's scrot!" Aaron loudly cursed as he stomped on the brake, steering the wheel as much as he could to avoide hitting the man.

But alas!

Fate had already ordained it and there's no escaping from it.

Screech!

Bam!

The tires screeched as they skid across the asphalt and hit the man on the road!

"Dammit! What in Aotl's name have I done?!" Aaron exclaimed, exasperated, his mind in chaos.

Immediately his mind began to race.

'Should I help him or just leave...'

Aaron is stuck in a rock and hard place, a battle is been fought inside his mind right at this moment.

On one side, is his professional duty as a medical health personnel and to commit a hit-and-run crime, he can never forgive himself while leaving the victim to die, what a cruel cold-blooded criminal disguised as doctor.

Yet on the other side is an equally important call which he must answer, his moral and personally duty, his role as a father.

"Aotl save his soul... Guide me and protect my beloved"

Aaron's eyes turned decisive as he resolutely stepped out of the car not even bothering to close the door because he is in a hurry, at the end, his humanity and compassion as a human and a doctor won.

It hasn't be confirmed if Lily was in danger or not.

But this man clearly needs medical attention, imagine being hit with a car going almost at its top speed, you'd be lucky to survive!

'Cold... too cold' That's the first thought that registered on Aaron's mind the moment he stepped out of the car.

It's unnaturally cold here, chill and ghostly.

The fog and the abnormally cold environment couple with some distant indistinct noises which made the hair on the back of Aaron's neck stand on their full height.

'Maybe it's the fog...' Aaron thought as he walked in the dimly-lit area amidst the dark swirling mass of unnatural mist.

With every step he took, a growing sense of unease is rising in his heart, it was as if his body was trying to warn him not to venture into the mist but alas!

There is no going back, how could he stop when a human's life is on the line here?

The the more he walked in the mist, it gets a little thinner or maybe thicker, it seemed to be playing mind tricks on him.

But on thing is for sure, he had noticed something uncanny a few moments ago, it was as if he there was something watching him, his every movement and step.

An eery feeling of being watched by something or someone in this darkness.

'Weird...'

Aaro swallowed hard and turned behind shining his torchlight, expecting to see someone.

But he is bound to be disappointed, for there is no creature on sight nor his car, only the headlights of the car were visible far-away from him.

'Is that real...?,

probably my imagination...' Aaron dismissed the thought and continued onwards.

"Ahh!" A high-pitched scream sounded but it was a weak one... As if the one responsible for it doesn't have the energy to scream louder than that.

"Hehp- meh! Pleees... Somewa-"

'That's the victim!' Aaron thought, concluded it's a woman from the high-pitch and began to rush but suddenly realised something crazily weird.

'The voice... Doesn't seemed to have a definite direction but seemingly sounding from everywhere yet nowhere at the same time... How?'

Aaron is heavily confused as he tried to find the source of the voice.

The voice eventually grew weaker as the seconds passed by, breaking into soft sobs.

Aaron is infuriated and decided to charge forward to the area that was right before while muttering a silent prayer to Aotl.

He is definitely not going to sit by and watch as she die, not on his watch!

"Oh Aotl... Guide me towards this poor soul"

"AHHHH!!!" This time he heard a bloodcurdling scream which made him rethink his decision of leaving his car.

And there, he found it, it was as if the God of Tranquility and Protection had answered his prayers.

In small clearing with tiny wisps flying freely in the air, surrounded by the vast and thick ominous mist, right before him is the vague figure of a human, on its knee half-bent over something he couldn't recognise.

The creature is making some weird-looking movement which confused Aaron, prompting to focus his torchlight on it.

The body is hairy with bleeding wounds and bruises all over its body obviously from a crash.

There are low-moans of pain and squelching disgusting wet sounds which stopped when the creature finally paused it's weird movements.

Slowly turning its head and body to look at the new arrival, Aaron caught a glimpse of what lay before him and what he saw is enough to traumatize even a full-grown man!

What'd you think Aaron saw?
