Author, stop saying stuff like "he's words were filled with a weight that bore down on the room." instead, learn good dialogue that makes us actually feel that. Show, don't tell. Like the chapter is called "Speech", yet there is no speech. Just a few words. This was the perfect time to introduce all the important Ravensteins and have their way of speaking give us clues about their character, yet there was none.
