Looks like with great power MC got equal minus to mentality. Why drama so much over everyday things? Next thing would probably be a tantrum over piles of dirty dishes, eh? Because life is unfair and these cruel, dirty things are growing and growing ... MC have not done anything wrong, and while he could made better life decisions - he did't. Wasn't capable enough. Inexperienced. Overall situation lead to a better outcome, and next time MC would know better. It's ok to be sad and ashamed, but what with all these overflowing emotions? I may say something alien, but many people actually return to being friends with their ex's. If relationship they had were natural and healthy, instead of compensation and projections. This quilt trap MC have stepped onto, looks irrational and out of place. The core of tmy frustration lays in story foundation - MC supposed to have strong and unyielding personality, forged by hardships of constant cruelty of life (especially related with interpersonal communication). And yet he downs in guilt and self mysery at every single step.
