Good chapter, I am not used to 1st person..... but I am still enjoying reading this. Although I called the ambush and pretty sure about his lucky break. The narration is not boring and contrary quite smooth. But also, a good story needs a bit of suspense and not the same as a lot of other novels... I know it's hard not to, cos there is so many novels out already, and it's hard to come up with something different from the rest.
