Not sure I would had picked perfect memory over anything else, like a mutant power or something. Heck, giving yourself Xavier's mutant ability would probably have perfect memory as a bonus. Or you could get the abilities of Alex Mercer. Or the talent of Doctor Doom... Perfect memory doesn't necessarily mean perfect comprehension. You can memorize something but still not understand what it is. Still, its not a bad wish all things considered. Certainly better than some I've seen presented on this site at times. Occlumency is, I feel, overrated and glorified a lot in HP fanfiction so its good he wont have to rely on it at least.
Merlin i don't think could be called the 'first' supreme wizard. Maybe the greatest in a millennia or recorded history. Remember the goblins are still excavating ruins of wizard kind in Egypt which points to wizards being around for a good long while at least 5000 years if you go by Egypt. Then you got to think about tribal witch doctors tens of thousands of years ago. Or what about the Aztecs, Incas and the like the ritual sacrifice of tens of thousands at a time. Stone henge, the island of stone faces, ancient ruins of cities built with super smooth cut walls that is still today a hard feat and modern mystery of how it was done and moved into place. I'm not saying it was really magic but for a :-P fan fiction it would be cool to see it mentioned
All in all, I'm severely disappointed by this chapter. Cliche Merlin's descendant + automatic great power, a power that seems cool and powerful on paper but if you actually think about it is not really that good. I mean, think about it, I mentioned why it's far worse than choosing power - and giving him power anyway kinda made MC resolving to rely on learning to reach the apex meaningless. But did you consider the downsides? The ability to remember EVERY. SINGLE. LITTLE. THING. you've even experienced will drive you mad if you don't actually have a way of dealing with that. What about things you DON'T want to remember?
Thanks for an enjoyable chapter, looking forward to how you develop the story, and show the benefits and drawbacks of the power he chose. To be fair, like others have said, it might not be the best power, but I think it will allow your character to grow without becoming immediately overpowered. If you chose something like the Phoenix force or something like that, he’s steamroll over enimied unless you nerf him.
I think Perfect Memory is one of the best Mind related Powers an Author can pick as long as he remembers or notes down what his character at point x should know. The Reason is simple even an Idiot can simulate a Person with Perfect Memory but not a Genius. If IQ was all there is to life and I had an IQ of 110 a Person with an IQ of 140 would be a genius to me to a Person with an theoretical IQ of 210 we'd both be idiots. So how do you simulate an ungodly Genius without being one.
It was not an bad option. Something like Xavier powers were too op for that world and i dont think Mr Void would give it him Maybe something like improved understanding. But perfect memory its nice. Or improved mindset. An common human can live more of 300 years. (His mid cant bear it.) Thanks by the chapter
I've seen a few bring up Merlin. I think DBZ was written off too easily. Goku more or less handles everything so it doesnt matter too much how strong he gets. Though on that note during the many years they dont use the dragon balls he could wish himself a high class Saiyin and a top tier zenkai boost. Throw in a high regen factor and hes very well off. Make sure to use a wish so Goku and maybe the others are immune to diseases or something to avoid finding himself in future trunks timeline rather than canon. Of course theres other wishes he can make whenever if he feels like it, like agelessness and not just for himself.
