When he was born he was already part hollow so soul suicide wouldn’t have really affected him
However, it seemed impossible. With just his personal willpower, he couldn't withstand the process of Hollowfication. No one could overcome Hollowfication by sheer will alone; not a single person could escape Soul Suicide.
