mystery is basically metaphysical weight that gives credence to the magical things in FATE, which is needed for them to work/exist. There is more of it the less there's known about it, which is why Families keep their research for themselves, so that the weight(Mystery) doesn't weaken because more people know of it.

Not sinful though as I discovered after comparing my soul with those of other peoples in public. Sin interestingly enough came in a hue of colors according to my new skill which I had to carefully figure out. For greed it was a yellow, lust was purple, wrath was red, sloth was a pale gray and pride was brown. My whole body seemed to be on fire. I could see my breath leaving my mouth in jets of white vapor caused by the hot air meeting the cold.
