And the reason why Daemon didn’t want to go back to Westeros was because he married Laena without Visery’s permission and going back would mean he’d be with the Velaryon’s as the Stepson who didn’t bring much and would be less free than in Essos

He married Laena to improve his living standards plus she was Old Blood Daemon married her after she basically got told by Jeyn Arryn that he couldn’t claim Runestone due to his deceased wife being the ruler. The same wife he was known to treat coldly. Plus the Vale didn’t want him He left the Stepstones after basically getting bored and not having it in him to try and make it a decent place. And King’s Landing wasn’t really all that for him. He went from being a homeless prince with a dragon to being part of the wealthiest family and then going to Essos to use that in politics. Not to mention he’s also a kinslayer considering he sent Blood and Cheese to murder Heleana’s children causing her to off the deep end even though they weren’t really opponents. So you should stop trying to paint Daemon as this good man when he’s an opportunistic man who will try his best to further his goals before then getting bored and dropping them.

Look how Corlys and the Velaryon’s ended up in canon after siding with Daemon and Rhaenyra. Went from being one of the richest to a struggling family that occasionally got chosen for Master Of Ships. Not to mention the moment Laena died he went straight to marrying Rhaenyra. Family man he may be but he’s an overgrown man child who’s first resort is violence in a situation. Not to mention is pride makes controlling him or using him a massive headache. Neither Daemon or Rhaenyra are fit to be in any ruling position

Daemon is one of the least trustworthy people in this era along with Otto or Corlys but Corlys is his father. Daemon is all ambition and no effort with barely and redeeming traits apart from a dragon and his sword skills
