1 Prologue

"It 's a shame I won't be able to play this game much longer." Luke sighed.

He was playing Pokemon Radical Red, a difficulty romhack of Fire Red, on his phone. He managed to beat the elite four, but his joy upon doing so was short-lived.

The harsh reality of his terminal illness made it so that whenever he experienced something, he wondered if it would be the last time he did.

Luke is in his room. He got out of the hospital after the doctors told him and his parents that there is no treatment for his illness. It is a new illness, so there's nothing they can do to help him.

The doctor told him that his body seemed to be in an unstable state, in the border of collapsing at any moment. Since then, Luke has lived with the uncertainty of not knowing when his time will come, the winds of death cooling down his life.

"It really is a shame, isn't it?"

Luke's eyes opened wide in surprise upon hearing an unknown voice on his room. He looked towards the window, and looking out of it was something that he couldn't understand.

It was a carbon copy of himself, as if he was looking at himself in a mirror. Except this one wasn't mirror, and it wasn't a reflection.

'Have I gone mad?' Luke thought.

"No, you haven't." the other Luke turned around, looking at him in the eyes. "I'm as real as it gets."

Luke rubbed his eyes. "This isn't real."

The other Luke smiled, then he disappeared from his sight. Then, Luke felt a sharp pain on the back of his head.

"What the fuck?"

"The pain is real, isn't it? Let's get this over with fast, I'm not a patient one."

The moment his copy slapped him, information was sent into Luke's mind.

The entity before him was here to offer him a gift, and his mind seemed to be at peace with it.

"What was that?" Luke asked.

"I made it so that you would accept the situation as real, so that we can discuss your situation."

"And what was that about a gift?"

"That's the important matter." the lookalike sat on a chair that appeared out of thin air, folding his arms. "The first thing is that you were going to die today."

Luke's eyes opened wide for a moment, then he looked down. "I see."

"You're calm about it, huh?"

"Well, you see," Luke met the entity's eyes. "I already knew this could happen at any moment, so I'm not too surprised about that."

"Fair enough. You won't have to worry about that thought."

"What do you mean." Luke's intuition thought of a possibility, but he wasn't sure it would be that type of scenario.

"It's just as you think." the entity said. "It's an isekai-type scenario. Though, I have to say, thinking of that straight away was quite naive."

"Naive? Well, I guess you're right. But," Luke looked out of the window. "For someone like me, such a possibility is a divine gift."

"That makes sense." The entity nodded. "You're lucky to receive this gift."

"And what is the gift?" Luke had expectations for what it could be, but he also knew not too get his hopes too high.

"It's a pokeadventure straight into Kanto."

"Pokemon?"

"Indeed. You will be sent into the world of Pokemon, albeit an unknown to you, because it is one I altered."

"In what way?" he never imagined it would be something like this, but he welcomed it with open arms. The world of Pokemon is an interesting world, and one that if you are careful shouldn't be too threatening. Ignoring the incidents with legendary Pokemon, that is.

"Nothing much, really. You could call compare it to a difficulty hack." he looked at the phone in Luke's bed. "The trainers are gonna be stronger, but you also get quality of life features for it."

"Sounds cool to me." he smiled. "I love playing difficulty hacks."

"I knew you would say that." The entity walked over to Luke's side. "I suppose we got a deal, right?"

"But you haven't explained the details of it yet." he narrowed his eyes. "If we add the fact that you changed stuff, then wouldn't knowing a little bit about it help me?" While the Pokemon world in the anime looked like a great place when he was a kid, the truth is that it's not all sunshine and rainbows. Luke understood this after reading the Pokemon Adventures manga. It's a world like any other, with dangers of its own.

With a smile on its face, the entity clicked his tongue. "Where would the fun be if I did that? You gotta take the gamble if you want to gain something. So choose, will you take it? or not?"

Luke wasn't sure if arguing with the entity would be a good idea. As far as he knows, he was going to die today anyways, so living longer isn't a bad thing. Who knows what will happened were he to reject the gift.

"Fine, I accept."

The entity stretched out his hand. "It was a pleasure meeting you. I hope you do great things."

Luke shook the hand. "I hope I do great things too."

"One last thing." the unknown entity smiled. "If you deal with the devil, there's always a price."

Then, Luke disappeared from this world.
