literally what I was going to suggest, the barrels created in hopes to keep the dead out, and now its the only thing still staning, along with some of the buildings, after the dead got in, and another idea is to show those bigger beings out in the sea sometimes to bring in that mysterious feeling, like seeing a titan behind a thick fog or cloud out in sea.
