I had to reread this chapter cause its been months, so it was about hand to hand fighting. But magic martial arts makes your fists harder and this is a xianxia where skin refining can make you impervious to normal weapon. The same fist technique would be the same with the sword, that is how it always has been. It is why people use the sword (its versatile) compared to other superior weapons like the spear or a hammer.

You could have not touched the gifts and teach the boy and if he doesn't master it due to aptitude then you can have him travel with you to town. Just like what the earlier comment said. Mc doesn't know if Xu Yan has a background that could touch him even in the other country. The character is only as wise and smart as their author. If Xu Yan insists he gets it then the wise mc who is not stupidly greedy could say he will only accept them if he masters the martial art and Xu Yan should keep it if he can't since he won't be his true disciple and he would be offending him, mc, by insisting he gets the gifts. I know this is a comedy most likely with the protagonist always being right like the other novels. However, it just sounds so stupid.

not really. Some obvious stuff becomes known cause someone pointed it out. Even when they point it out there will be centuries of people wanting to disprove it (there was a math formula or I think it was an axiom that was written with three other axiom but future mathematicians just wanted to keep disproving it)
