Chapter 1: Awake

Awake.

The feeling of cold cement was the first thing I could perceive. Coming to my senses, I flailed for any objects that may be in the room. A sudden voice pierced my consciousness and soothed my panic. "Hello there. I believe it's our first time meeting, Charles." His voice was soft and gentle. I looked around, but it seemed I was inside a white room. "Don't worry, friend, I'm not gonna hurt you." He grabbed my shoulder and looked into my eyes. "There is nothing to be afraid of here..", he started walking away while talking. "We are inside your mind right now. You were knocked out quite cold, you know.", he expressed humorously. "What happened..? Tell me who you are!" I declared. " Calm down, Charles. My name is Leon. I'm your guide here." He sounded exactly like me. "Guide? What the hell do you mean?" I questioned him. "Ah, Charles. It seems you don't know what you are yet, and I don't have much time to explain.", he scoffed, bothered by the lack of time. "You are going to wake up right now and you'll figure out what's going on." he informed me while gathering himself. Then soon after, I was awake in the basement again. I tried to scream, but it felt as if there was a boulder lodged into my throat. My hands and legs were bound together, leaving me helpless. "You are finally awake son, sorry for knocking you out.", he whispered. Then, I saw what was actually in front of me. It was mom laying on a metal table, tied down. Something happened. Her scar from her chest was slowly healing. "So you finally see huh? Your mother isn't human.'' Dad spat as he continued to hurt Mom. Her scars were all healing slowly. He finally took the tape off of my mouth, but even now, I was terrified. I couldn't even say a word. What did I just witness? Nothing came out of my mouth even when my father was in front of me. "I'll untie you, so don't do anything stupid", he spoke. After he untied me, I just stood there. "What's going on?" I let out the words that were on top of my mouth in shock. "I don't know either. She isn't conscious, but her wounds are healing. I was experimenting on her. That's why I tried to keep her locked in the basement." Dad spoke calmly, but I knew he was scared. I walked a little bit closer to mom. But something wasn't right. Her hands were twitching.. I tried touching her hand for the first time in a while." Don't get close!'' Dad screamed at me and rushed towards me. I only heard the metal cable breaking and a body dropping to the floor. My father's head fell as my vision slowed. Red consumed the gray color of the basement floor and continued to swallow all other colors as blood spewed from my father's detached head. Fear climbed through my body and overtook all other emotions. All thoughts, hesitation, and action was completely halted through the sheer horror filling my perspective. My throat cried out to me as a horrific shriek left my mouth. Mom transformed into some kind of creature and then started eating dad. I rushed towards the staircase to get out of the basement but the door was locked. I cried out to my sister as hard as I could so she would open the door, but it wasn't working. The creature behind me started crawling up the stairs. I looked behind me and I could see it. The creature was almost painted in my dad's carcass and it got even closer to me. It was approaching me slowly, as if I were its prey. Finally, after all of my screaming, I heard the door knob rattle as it was unlocked and opened. As soon as I could see the glow of light out of the entrance, I grabbed onto my sister and ran. I ran off leaving my father's body behind. My sister was shaking when she saw the creature that came out of the basement after me, yet she kept her mouth shut. I bursted through the front door of my house, clutching onto my sister, I frantically yelled to warn the people in the vicinity. The only reactions I got were sudden glares as if I were viewed as a psycho. Then, I saw a chuckle and I snapped. They were laughing at me! Only after a couple of seconds did they realize that they should have run. The demon of the basement had quickly found a way out of the house. The neighbors froze in horror as their heads were separated from their bodies by this creature. It was a bloodbath. I looked back, but everyone was getting torn apart by this alien-like creature! I heard screaming and screeching, but I kept running." Don't look back." I asked my sister. She closed her eyes. The police had already arrived on the screen, but the bullets weren't working. They only slowed the beasts down, but then the creature killed them! It killed them all! Then, the worst possible scenario I could imagine unfold before my eyes. More of them showed up. More beasts were hunting us. The crowd tried rushing out of the town, but it was too late. There were too many. "Someone help me!" I heard an old woman scream. The police station… It popped into my mind. That's the only place we can go. "Hold onto me and don't let go.", I instructed my sister. We need to armor up.
