Chapter 1 : Unexpected life changes

Hi my name is James pogger and I'm 18 years old . I should have been at training camp with my team right now. But fate had another plan prepared for me. Double open fracture.....

 And it's a miracle I'm not crippled right now. Still I had to say goodbye to my soccer Career... And forget about it. And the scholarship I needed for college as well. 

So I had to find another way to get an education. Samantha suggested that I can try to learn something new . Like photography. As it turns out. I'm a natural!. Now I work a part_time as a photographer to save some money for college.

I've been applying filters on photos all day .... I hope the client will be happy. A few more shoots and I'll have enough for a down payment . And I still have time to get out of this shit_hole this semester. 

"Knock knock" The sound of knocking interrupts my thoughts .

The door opened, and the storm entered." James pogger! You've been slacking again ? I expected much from you " 

" Please don't start that again, Olivia, I've been working all day " I answered while angry.

" Start what ?! What kind of tone is that ? you've been in your room all day! Or do you think I'm blind ? " 

"But..." I tried to defend myself, but she wouldn't let me utter a word.

" No buts! That's what don was talking about. You're out of control! Your ingratitude leave us with no choice . " 

I lowered my head to the ground, trying to ignore her, but what she said" if your mother heard that at 18 years old..... Her son would neither study nor work . She'd be spinning in her grave ! "

I couldn't bear to continue listening to her, I shouted at her." Olivia ... There's no need to mention my mother; leave her out of the conversation..." 

" Don't you dare raise your voice at me in my own house! " 

She saw me unable to answer, so she continued by throwing her words that felt like bullets." Truth hurts. Doesn't it ? " 

" You know why this is the way it is ! I'd be at University right now if it wasn't for my leg ..."

" You should have thought of that before! Sport is always a risk . You should've done less loafing and studied more . Like Ashley! And now what? How do you plan to get an education?" 

I answered" I'm working on it " 

Then She began to mock me." Ohhh ... He's working . I see how hard you're "working "! James , our hospitality is not unlimited." 

That's for sure . Now she's going to boast about the nice things that she's done for me.

" We didn't want this . But you leave us with no choice. If you want to throw your life away.... We won't let you do it with your feet dangling off don's neck! You're a grown man. You can take care of yourself " 

I felt shocked by her words. So I replied" what do you mean by that? Are you kicking me out? " 

She didn't answer me and just kept staring." But. Olivia. Come on .... Where am I supposed to go?" 

Then she replied " what do you take us for ? Savages ? You're my best friend's son , god rest her soul. And I talked to don and I convinced him to not kick you out . " 

" Thank you a lot . I knew ..... " She interrupted my gratitude. " But ! " Her is the buts I've didn't want to hear " we're done supporting you. "

I speak in shock" What? " 

" From now on, if you want to live here...pay your rent as a lodger." 

" What ?what?" She complete" I expect payment by the fifth of every month ."

"You're kidding right? "

She didn't care about what I said and kept explaining" You don't have to pay for August, but ..."

I interrupted her " Olivia , hey , tell me you're kidding....."

Again with no reaction " I need your first and last payment in September. Plus a security deposit in case of property damage. "

" What...what kind of nonsense is that ? How am I supposed to save for school while paying rent? It's a vicious circle ! "

Olivia raised her tone." Young man ! You're under my roof . You follow my rules . You don't like our offer? Go into the living room and say it to don's face. Or do you only have the courage to bicker with me ? "

Damn it , I knew I shouldn't have fallen for her provocation.... " All right. I'll talk to don . Maybe he won't be so deaf to reason. "

She started laughing" good luck with that. After all, it was his idea. "

She headed towards the door, left, and I remained sitting on the bed alone, contemplating what I would do. After moments of contemplation, I gathered my courage and decided to go talk to Don to find a solution.

I left the room, and in the corridor, I heard a sound coming from Ashley's room. She's usually training around this time . I won't distract her . Although I can sneak a peek....

I quietly opened the door . What a view . Oh..... She bowed in front me . Ashley in her finest. So graceful. I could sit all day here and watch her . But I don't want her to see me . I closed the door . 

Before reaching the stairs, I stood in front of Samantha's room and wanted to have a word with her. I knocked but with no answer . She's clearly not at her room . I wonder where she went . 

I decided before talking to Don, I would have a word with Olivia. I headed to her room, knocked on the door, no answer. So, I entered. No one was there.

 I lifted my eyes and saw Don's favorite painting. He's always boasting about his roots and being among the first to enter the country. I remember him bragging about the men in the painting, claiming that the guy his great-grandfather. 

This fool has never heard of Google to verify what he says. The painting was sold on an art website for $15. I wondered about other things he lied about. I looked to my side and found Olivia's bag with some money in it. The question is whether to take it or not. You know what, I'll take it , I'm in real need. Anyway, there's not much to see.
