As the winter break approached, the campus began to empty as students eagerly made plans to travel home for the holidays. In their dormitory room, Lucas and Alex were sitting together, discussing their own travel arrangements.

"I can't believe the semester is almost over," Alex said, looking out the window at the falling snow. "I'm really looking forward to spending time with my family during the holidays."

"Me too," Lucas replied, but his tone held a hint of hesitation.

Alex noticed the uncertainty in his voice and turned to face him. "Is something on your mind, Lucas?" she asked, concern etched on her face.

Lucas took a deep breath, trying to find the right words. "I've been thinking about my own travel plans," he began, "and I have an opportunity to attend an important conference in another state. It's a big deal for my research, and I know it could be a significant step for my career."

Alex's eyes widened, realizing the magnitude of the opportunity before him. "That's amazing, Lucas!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with genuine excitement. "Congratulations! But... does that mean you won't be going home for the holidays?"
