Interests and Desires

A LOUD laugh echoes through out the hallway because of Kian. Hershey can't help but to pout as she watch Kian make fun of what she have just told him. A maid who happened to walk pass by turned her head to their direction due to the sudden outburst of Kian. This made Hershey felt a little bit of embarrassed.

"What?" she said pouting.

Kian waved his hands as he tried to contain his laughter and calm himself down. "It's just that, I couldn't believe you would do that" he said.

Apparently, Kian visited Hershey at their house as per requested from their parents. It was both fine with Kian and Hershey since they don't mind hanging out for a bit as well. During this time, Hershey also took this opportunity to tell him about what she told her father regarding the engagement. It surprised Kian and he found it quite hilarious as it doesn't seem like Hershey's thing. After all, between the two of them, Hershey was the one who's much more willing to pursue this engagement if its for the sake of their family's decision. It was now a little bit confusing on Kian's part for Hershey to act that way.

Hershey shrugged as she agreed at him, "Well, I thought you would love my approach since you wouldn't like to be tied with me anyway, right?"

"That's true, but you didn't have to do that"

"Why?" Hershey tilted her head.

Kian gave a soft chuckle, "Are you really doing this for me, or you just have another reason for it? Have you already figured out that you don't like the idea of marrying me?"

"No. I'm fine with marrying you. Are you?" Hershey quickly answered without hesitation.

It took Kian aback for a second but he also noticed that it didn't include any feelings on it. She was just really stating some facts.

"Hmm... Probably?" Kian said half-heartedly.

Hershey noticed this, so she answer in his stead. "You don't."

"Yeah, you're right. Well, not right now, at least" Kian surrendered and said the truth.

Both of them stopped talking when Hershey's brother, Bryce, walked down the stairs. Bryce and Hershey's eyes met. Both of them stared at each other for quite some time but none of them bother to utter a word. In the end, Bryce decided to walk pass them to go to the kitchen instead.

"Was that your brother?" Kian asked.

"Yup. Among my other siblings, he's the closest one for me"

"Closest? That doesn't seems like it?" he whispered enough for Hershey to hear.

Hershey gave a forced smile, "They're quite busy at the company so of course we are not that close like before"

Kian didn't try to ask any more questions about her family. Instead, he divert their conversation back to their original topic. "So, why do you really want to break off the engagement?"

"Breaking it off might be hard for me to do. My father is quite stubborn and I don't really have any power to stop it"

Kian raised his brows, "And so?"

"What I'm saying is, I might be able to delay it" Hershey said smiling.

Kian was then become more interested. He waited for her to continue what she's gonna say, and so Hershey did continue.

"First, let me tell you about this guy. His name is Glyde. I met him at the party which I invited you to but didn't showed up."

Kian coughed after what Hershey said but she just laughed it off.

"If I date him, I could use him as a reason. My father will most likely agree to it, but we shouldn't expect that he will easily give up on the engagement. But along the way, I might be able to convince him as well, who knows?"

Kian didn't reject the idea but he did asked some questions.

"Why him?"

Hershey tilted her head, thinking of an answer. However, she could only answer his question with another question. "Why not him?"

"Do you like him?" He immediately asked.

Hershey got stunned by his question. Her eyes widened and her heartbeat suddenly beats faster. She then smiled and answered calmly after a few seconds, "I am interested with him, yes"

"Why?" She blinked twice at his follow-up question.

"He's just...interesting?" she said as if it was the obvious answer. She was not being sarcastic, she was just really saying what she truly feels.

"How are you interested in him? Are you that close already? Do you know him that much already?"

"No, we are not close"

"Then what makes you say you are interested in him?"

"Because it's him?" she answered innocently.

Kian shook his head and sighed, "Are you sure, you're not just forcing yourself?"

Hershey was not able to give any answer. Was she just forcing herself to be interested at that guy? Does that mean she was lying to herself? No, she was sure she was indeed curious about him and desire to have him as well. It's real. She just doesn't really know the reason why. All she know is that she easily get feel comfortable and secured around him. When she's with him, she wish for the time to stop and enjoy that moment with him. It's an unknown feeling but she sure was at peace.

Kian spoke when Hershey remained silent, "What do you think will be the difference if its with him and not me? You'll date him for the sake of the hopes of breaking of this engagement, but would it be worth it? I mean, would your relationship with him will really involve some feelings?"

That make Hershey stopped even more. Kian was right. Hershey isn't even in love with Glyde, and Glyde is for sure does not have any feelings with her as well. So, what would be the point for it? It will be just like putting Glyde at Kian's position, so Kian would be free. In the end, she'll involve an innocent person.

But...

She wants him.

She desires his attention. She wants to have him. She wants Glyde to be one of her person.

Hershey smiled, "It'll be fine. Trust me"

Kian stared at Hershey and he knew that words wouldn't be able to convince her decision otherwise. The glint on Hershey's eyes right now proves that she is really a part of the Mendez family.

"Oh, since I am also gonna do you a favor with this, could you help me with something?" Hershey said as she remembered something since they were talking about likes and interests.

"Yeah, sure. What is it?"

"Would you mind looking for the artist of the Hidden Light painting? If you have any information about him and his contact information, that would be really great! Meeting him again would be a dream for me"

"Hidden Light? Uhh, sure. I'll try." he said.

Hershey clapped in delight, "Great!"
