A Tough Field Boss(3)

Tough bastard.

Although I managed to chip away at its health little by little, I was having the trouble I expected...

The GeoCrawler was relentless, its massive body thrashing and twisting, horns gleaming menacingly.

It lunged at me with its maw wide open, fangs glistening with venom, ready to tear me apart.

I barely had time to react, using [Burst Speed] to dart out of the way in a blur of motion. In that split second, I hurled another spear, aiming for the gaps in its hide. It pierced through, but the beast hardly seemed to notice.

There were more than 30 spears sticking out of it by now.

Yet, despite all that, I had only brought its HP down to about 75%.

I knew if I continued like this, I might theoretically win, but my supply of spears and my stamina wouldn't hold out.

In the first place, though, I knew this kind of strategy wasn't enough.

Only my Blood Nightshade would be able to deal with the Field Boss effectively.

For that reason, I decided it was enough.

I pulled out the last two spears and threw them.

Since I was in the right position, I could aim at its weak points.

One was aimed at its right eye, the other at its neck.

Normally, this would have worked, causing it to lose its other working eye or suffer a more severe wound.

But the GeoCrawler was no fool. It had learned throughout our exchanges.

It evaded both spears with a swift, serpentine movement, creating distance between us in the process.

Of course, I wasn't hoping to hit it.

As it moved back, I seized the opportunity and pulled the Blood Nightshade out of my inventory.

Its polished blade was already glowing, and I didn't spare any time.

Gripping the Blood Nightshade tightly, I activated [Burst Speed], propelling myself forward in a blinding linear dash.

However, the GeoCrawler was already too far for a direct hit.

Instead, I aimed for a nearby tree on the Field Boss' right, using [Acrobatics] to quickly twist my body mid-air.

My legs hit the trunk with a solid thud.

Using the accumulated force and my enhanced STR, I pushed off the tree, aiming directly at the Field Boss.

The rapid acceleration strained my body, and I saw my HP drop, but I ignored it.

The GeoCrawler, expecting another spear attack, was caught off guard as I rocketed toward it, Blood Nightshade in hand.

My target was clear.

As I soared through the air, I activated the Demonic Spear's first move, a powerful swipe.

The blade connected with precision, slicing through its eye.

The GeoCrawler let out a deafening roar of pain, its remaining eye rendered useless.

But of course, it wasn't all good.

The speed I had accumulated was too much.

It sent me hurtling all the way to the Boss' left.

I couldn't control my speed and crashed into another tree, the impact jarring my bones and causing my HP to plummet.

The GeoCrawler thrashed wildly, its roars echoing through the forest.

It flailed blindly, its massive body crashing into trees and rocks. I guess it's going berserk now. Well, it's better for me. I pushed myself to my feet, gripping the Blood Nightshade tightly.

The spear gleamed with a faint red glow, still humming with power.

One of the characteristics of my Extra Skill is that once a blow has gone through, it won't deactivate until I have completed the skill. It's probably the reason for the "Demonic" in its name.

I couldn't afford to laze around, though.

The Field Boss wasn't dead yet. Its blind rage made it a more predictable target, but I had to be careful with my next moves. I couldn't risk getting caught in the crossfire of its chaotic destruction.

I activated [Burst Speed] again, launching myself towards the GeoCrawler.

Instead of aiming for a tree this time, I aimed directly for its massive, thrashing body. As I landed on its armored back, I used [Acrobatics] to weave and dodge the rocks and debris it flung around. I had to stay light on my feet, moving swiftly to avoid being crushed.

I made my way up its back, heading for its head.

The second move of my Demonic Spear was a vertical thrust, and I needed to get close enough to use it. I could feel the beast's confusion and anger as I approached.

Once I was positioned above its head, I unleashed the second move. The spear drove downward in a powerful thrust, barely piercing through its thick armor.

The blow didn't do much damage, but the GeoCrawler felt it.

That's what I needed to make it snap out of its confusion.

Your target is here.

Enraged, it thrashed its head, trying to shake me off.

When it failed, I could feel its muscles tensing slightly.

A normal person might've overlooked it, but I am still me, even without the skills from the System.

I had to move fast. Using [Acrobatics], I leaped into the air just as its tail whipped around.

Thanks to its sense of balance being unstable now, it failed to properly land the blow as it struck its own head, the impact shattering its thick armor and exposing the vulnerable flesh beneath.

It roared in pain and frustration, but I didn't care at all.

This was the best possible scenario.

I was planning to use it later, but I had to take advantage of it.

Still mid-air, I twisted my body and activated the Demonic Spear's third move, a precise thrust aimed directly at the newly exposed head.

The spear connected, dealing significant damage. I could see pixels from the wound, but it wasn't enough to finish the beast.

I yanked the spear free and used [Acrobatics] to evade the tail as it tried to strike me again.

The GeoCrawler was now cautious, realizing it could hurt itself in its blind rage. It moved more carefully.

This will be your downfall.

My [Burst Speed] had barely cooled down. I activated it, racing towards a nearby tree. With a powerful push, I propelled myself back towards the beast, this time aiming for its exposed belly.

I had suffered some more damage, but I can bear with it. I won't end up like last time.

As I soared towards it, I readied the fourth move of my Demonic Spear.

The GeoCrawler, convinced I was still on its head, left its belly unguarded. I used less force to control my trajectory, landing precisely where I needed to. With a powerful swipe, I cut open its soft underbelly, twisting my body to execute the strike.

Barely a moment later, I used my momentum to throw a powerful kick into the wound. Although non-weapon attacks usually didn't deal much damage to bosses, the force of my kick exacerbated the injury and simultaneously propelled me away.

I succeeded, landing hard on the ground rather than crashing into another tree. I was thankful for that—it lessened the total damage I suffered.

The GeoCrawler's movements ceased altogether as that was a signal its health bar finally depleted. With a final, deafening roar, it exploded into a shower of pixels.

'It would've been bad if it actually had more health left...'

Well, I guess it was a close fight.

'Wait, now that I think about it, all the damage I suffered was self-induced'
