5 Team 8

Iruka enters the classroom and gets everyone's attention.

"Listen up everyone. I will announce the teams you are assigned to now that you are genin," Iruka announces.

The rookie teams are as such:

Team 7: Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto Uzumaki, and Sakura Haruno.

Team 8: Hinata Hyuga, Shino Aburame, and Takahashi Shigaru.

Team 10: Shikamaru Naru, Chōji Akimichi, and Ino Yamanaka.

Takahashi was hoping to be on the same team as Shikamaru since people in his clan are highly intelligent strategists. Unfortunately, each generation of the Yamanaka, Nara, and Akimichi are on the same team. Surprisingly, he also wanted to be on a team with Naruto since he could sense immense chakra from him. If trained properly, he could become a great ninja but Naruto is the lowest-ranked student. Shiva told Takahashi not to show off to avoid getting unwanted attention from the village so he isn't the highest-ranked student and can't balance the team by being on Naruto's team.

Takahashi takes a look at his teammates. First is Hinata, a girl with fair skin that has dark blue hair that stops at her forehead and white eyes. She is wearing a cream-colored hooded-jacket with Konoha's fire symbol on its upper right and left sleeves and fur around its cuffs and hem and navy blue pants. Her forehead protector is worn around her neck.

Takahashi sees Hinata staring at Naruto so he smirks and teases her.

"If you like him, then tell him or he'll keep thinking that you have a weird personality. You won't have as much time to stalk him as before now that we are genin," Takahashi teases.

Hinata blush as she lowers her head. Takahashi lightly chuckles when he sees this. He and Hinata became friends shortly after becoming fellow students. One day, he saw that Naruto was being beaten by a group of kids while protecting Hinata and he helped since they were his classmates. He left without saying a word to either of them and a few days after that incident he spotted Hinata as she was stalking Naruto. She was scared to death when she finally noticed him on the side of her. Since that day they slowly became friends.

Next is Shino, a light fair-skinned boy who is the tallest member of the graduating class. He has dark, bushy, brown hair and thick eyebrows. His outfit consists of dark sunglasses, a sea-green jacket with a high, upturned collar, light brown pants, and blue sandals. Takahashi hasn't got to talk with him that often. The one time they did, Shino talked about insects. After the conversation, he didn't think of Shino as creepy like others from their class but found some interest in the subject.

After having their teams assigned, everyone is instructed to go to a training ground to meet their jonin instructors.

When Team 8 arrive at their assigned training ground, they are greeted by a fairly tall and light-skinned woman with a slender build. The woman has long, black, shoulder-length hair, thick eyebrows, and eyes that are red, with an additional ring in them. She is wearing red lipstick and purple eye shadow. Her outfit consists of a red mesh armor blouse with only the right sleeve visible. Over the red mesh armor blouse is a broad material that resembles bandages. The material has a pattern of rose thorns on it. Her hands and upper thighs are wrapped in bandages and she wears the Konoha forehead protector and regular shinobi sandals. This woman is Kurenai Yuhi, the jōnin instructor of Team 8.

"Now that everyone is here we can introduce each other. Who wants to go first," Kurenai asks.

Team 8 introduces each other one after another before they are told about their test.

"Alright, now we will start the test to see if you all can be shinobi. All you have to do is spar with me. You have 5 minutes to prepare," Kurenai says.

5 minutes quickly pass and Team 8's test begins. Takahashi quickly weaves hand signs.

"Nitric Release: Nitric Mist Jutsu," Takahashi says after quickly weaves hand signs.

Mist covers the area, blinding everyone except Takahashi.

Hinata activates her Byakugan and nervously confronts Kurenai. Hinata's subpar Gentle Fist is easily avoided by Kurenai and a kunai fly towards her head. Kurenai tilts her head to dodge the kunai and is greeted by Takahashi's foot. His kick is blocked before he is elbowed in his ribs. After being elbowed, Takahashi changes into a swarm of insects that restrains Kurenai. Hinata uses this opportunity to seal some of Kurenai's tenketsu with Gentle Fist and leaves the proximity of the mist.

"Fire Release: Great Fireball Jutsu."

Outside the mist, Takahashi expels a stream of fire from his mouth towards the mist. After the fire made contact with the mist, it resulted in the mist exploding.

"You three showed decent teamwork. There were a couple of errors but they can be improved. Now let's see how you fare against genjutsu; Demonic Illusion: Tree Binding Death," Kurenai states as a tree appears and coils around Takahashi and Hinata, leaving them immobile on opposite sides of the tree. Soon after, Kurenai emerges above Takahashi. "You will have 3 minutes to escape."

Once Kurenai finishes her instructions, Takahashi activates his Sosengan and his eyes become ice blue.

"Sosengan: Eye of the Heart," Takahashi mutters.

Suddenly, Kurenai cancels the genjutsu and frees Takahashi and Hinata. This is a shock to everyone since no one knew of Takahashi's talent in genjutsu. Kurenai recovers from the shock and concludes the test.
