The night before the wedding

Jasper thought about Kai, what had just happened between them in there? Ever since then Kai had entered his life, he hadn't stopped thinking about him, Kai occupied his thoughts even when he wasn't there, he kept on thinking about him.

He hadn't felt about anyone like this in a long time. The last person that had made him feel this way was someone way above his league that he had even felt guilty for liking him.

But now with Kai, it was different. Kai made him feel different, made him feel free. At least when he was with Kai, he could forget about his shitty family and life.

He stood up and went back into the house, Kai had already washed the dishes and the whole place looked spotless. He went to the bedroom and saw that Kai was busy cultivating.

He sat down and watched him. Jasper had never thought seriously about cultivation. As soon as his energy had reached average level he had stopped cultivation. His brother however had continued cultivating, intent on matching up with Kaiden. The burning rivalry he had with Kaiden had eventually destroyed their friendship.

Jasper thought about Kaiden, Kaiden West had been an enigma, someone Jasper had never thought he could reach. He had been so powerful and then he had lost everything.

Kaiden finished his cultivation and opened his eyes see Jasper was back and he looked lost in thoughts.

"Jasper, are you okay?" he asked.

Jasper looked at him, "are you done with cultivating?" he asked.

"Yes I am." Kaiden replied.

"How powerful do you think you are now?" Jasper asked.

"I don't have any idea but I know I can feel my power increasing."

"Hmmm, what are you doing tomorrow?" Jasper asked him.

Kaiden had planned to attend the wedding tomorrow but he couldn't possibly tell him that could he?

"Nothing, I would probably just rest." he lied.

"Come with me to my brother's wedding tomorrow." he told him.

"Are you sure that is okay?" Kaiden asked.

"it is, you are my guest."

"But I don't have anything to wear."

Jasper looked at him from head to toe. "We are the same size. I will give you a suit. So will you come?"

"I will, thanks for inviting me."

"I should be the one thanking you. I don't really want to attend the wedding. At least, I will have someone to talk to."

"Why don't you want to attend the wedding?" Kaiden asked curiously.

"I don't really like the whole idea of it. Sure I know they are the best couple of the country but they betrayed someone for their love. Is that okay?"

"No it isn't. Maybe they had a reason for it."

Jasper shook his head, "There is no reason for it. You don't betray someone like that. My mom sees nothing wrong with it. She sees it as a chance for us to move up even higher on the social calendar. If my dad was alive, I know he wouldn't agree to this."

"Well since you have already registered your displeasure, the least you can do is to attend, he is family after all." Kaiden tried to encourage him to go because after all he wanted to go to the wedding. And now that he had a free entry instead of his previous sneaking plan, he was going to make damn sure that Jasper went.

"Well since you will be there with me, it won't be so unpleasant. When we leave the wedding, we can go buy a energy checker to check your spiritual energy level" Jasper told him.

"I would like that, thanks a lot." Kaiden replied.

The two of them looked at each other. Although thoughts of what had just happened between them in the kitchen ran through their minds, neither of them said anything about it.

"So we should get to sleep." Jasper told him.

"Can I get a blanket to spread on the floor?" Kaiden asked.

Jasper sighed and pulled him to the bed to join him.

"the bed is big enough for the both of us. Don't argue with me just sleep" he told him.

Kaiden smiled and he didn't argue, he obediently lay down. Jasper turned off the light and joined him in bed.

"Kai." he whispered in the dark.

"yes." Kaiden answered.

"Stay with me for a while okay, the house is less lonely with you around." Jasper told him.

"I will." Kaiden assured him.

Soon the both of them fell asleep.

Meanwhile over at the mayor's house, some people weren't asleep.

"How sure are you that the plant will start working soon?" the mayor asked Jonathan.

"Very sure, the plant is becoming powerful every day, it seems to be cultivating its power." Jonathan replied.

"It better be as you have said it. All your big clients have threatened to leave. I had to offer gifts to beg them to have a little patience with you. In three months time, the plant better be ready to make standard tools and weapons."

"I understand." Jonathan replied.

"What about the estate, have you found a way got it to be opened?" the mayor asked him.

"Not yet, it's still sealed." Jonathan answered.

"That stingy bastard. Why did he have to use his energy to seal his properties. What are your plans concerning that?"

"I am getting a powerful cultivator coming here next month. He will be able to unseal it."

"Good, all his properties belong to the state. Once they are unsealed, I will be able to decide what to do with them." the mayor said, a greedy smile on his face.

"If that's all, may I be excused? Tomorrow is my wedding and I need to rest." Jonathan asked.

"Yes, that's all. You may go." the mayor dismissed him.

Jonathan was about to leave when the mayor called him back.

"Yes sir?" he answered.

"Remember you have to keep me and my daughter happy if you want this marriage to work." the mayor reminded him.

"Yes sir." Jonathan replied.

"You may go." the mayor dismissed him.
