Chapter 5: Mentor

I woke up to realise that I was in what seemed like an olden times hospital. I had a blanket over me, so I just took it off and got off the bed.

The second I got off, a nurse came to me and said," Student, please follow me."

I was a little surprised, as this was a different treatment than before, but I was actually pleased. Before the awakening, I was treated way too respectfully, and it was honestly a bit creepy.

Right now, the nurse was treating me like what my past-life school nurse used to treat me like.

She lead me out of the room. As I was walking out of the room, I saw 7 other people on beds, which I assumed were the other 'Uniques.'

...

(Change POV to Hilburt Flameheart)

There were 8 of us 5th year students outside the nursery of the academy, waiting for the uniques to wake up.

The reason we were here was to pick a Unique to mentor. Usually, a first year gets a 3rd or 4th year as their mentor, so throughout the year, they are able to better cope with classes.

After all, no matter how hard the academy is, they want you to pass and move onto the next year.

However, we are here as Uniques get to have 5th years as their mentors.

Don't look down upon the difference of a 5th and 4th year, even 10 4th year students cannot compete with us 5th years.

The reason is simple, we worked harder. A minimum requirement to become a 5th year student is to never repeat a year. So the 50 of us had to work hard day and night to reach where we are.

If we go back to our respective kingdoms, we could be as high ranking as commanders, some even generals in the army.

The only difference between them and us is that they have more experience due to age, which will be covered up as we grow older.

So among the 50, us, the top 8 of the year were decided to mentor the first years.

I myself, am 2nd in my year, a really insulting thing for me, but I have admitted that I cannot beat that monster...that does not matter.

Right now, I am not in a good mood. The 8 of us drew lots to decide the order in who we will get as our mentee.

While any unique will be good as a mentee, there is a sort of classification even among uniques.

Usually, any and all Uniques after awakening will faint, and re-awaken later. The longer they take to wake up, the stronger their abilities will be.

The reason I am not in a good mood is because I lost, and whoever comes out first will be my mentee.

This also means the mentee I get probably won't fulfil the prophecy.

The relationship between a mentee and mentor is... different. Usually, a mentor will never skimp on the resources they give to their mentees. This includes everything but their secret family arts.

So, for the next hour, we all sat in silence, deciding on what to give our mentees.

While it is not our first time having mentees, it is our first time having unique mentees...well for all of us except for the monster.

It was about after 5 hours later, we heard footsteps.

'5 hours, that is not bad timing.' I tried to convince myself, and walked forward to meet a decent sized young man.

All 8 of us immediately etched his face into our mind. He will definitely be leading his kingdom's army in the future, and can become our enemy, even if the chances are low.

However, some of the more ballsy of the 8 decided to release some of their mana onto him.

He however, showed no visible reaction.

I was low-key impressed, to take the mana pressure of a 5th year. I myself decided to observe.

Since eventually it was getting too out of hand, I placed my hand on him, put some of my mana onto him to release their pressure, and led him out of the corridor to my private training quarters.

...

I don't know what just happened.

I walked out of the hospital, and immediately felt as if a dragon was breathing over me. I couldn't move, I could not think or breathe, I just stood still.

Eventually, my saviour came to my rescue.

He was about 1.8m tall, had crimson red hair which fell to his shoulders. He had bright red eyes, a sharp jawline, and to match his overall theme had a bright red uniform.

He placed his hand over my shoulder for a second, then led me out of the corridor.

'Holly shit, I do not want to meet them again.'
