Chapter 4: Friendships and Fun

Max quickly settled into the routines of pre-school, but the real magic of his experience lay in the friendships he began to form. While Lily remained his closest companion, Max gradually expanded his circle to include other children in the class. Each day brought new adventures and lessons, both inside the classroom and out on the playground.

One sunny morning, the class gathered outside for a nature walk. Miss Emily led the children through a nearby park, pointing out various plants and animals along the way. Max was fascinated by the different types of trees and flowers, his keen mind absorbing the information like a sponge. He found himself particularly drawn to a large oak tree that stood majestically at the centre of the park.

"This tree is very old," Miss Emily explained. "It's seen many seasons and changes. Just like us, trees grow and change over time."

Max reached out to touch the rough bark, feeling a strange connection to the ancient tree. He couldn't help but think about his journey and the changes he had experienced in his multiple lives. It was a moment of quiet reflection, interrupted by Lily's cheerful voice.

"Max, look! There's a squirrel!" she exclaimed, pointing to a small creature darting up the tree trunk.

Max smiled, his thoughts shifting back to the present. "It's cute," he said, watching the squirrel scamper around.

The nature walk continued, and the children collected leaves, rocks, and other small treasures. Max found a perfectly round pebble that he decided to keep. It reminded him of the many talismans and artefacts he had encountered in his second life as the Mage God. He slipped the pebble into his pocket, feeling a sense of comfort in its smooth surface.

Back in the classroom, the children shared their findings. Max listened as his classmates excitedly described their discoveries. He enjoyed hearing their stories and appreciated the sense of community that was developing among them.

As the weeks passed, Max's bond with Lily grew stronger. They often worked on projects together, whether it was building structures with blocks or creating elaborate drawings. One rainy afternoon, they were assigned to build a model of their dream house using various craft materials.

"I want a house with a big garden," Lily said, glueing colourful pieces of paper to the base. "And lots of flowers!"

Max nodded, adding his touches to the model. "And maybe a library," he suggested, thinking of the many books he loved to read. "With lots of books about adventures."

Lily grinned. "Yes! And a secret room where we can keep all our treasures."

The two of them worked diligently, their imaginations running wild. By the end of the session, they had created a beautiful model house, complete with a garden, library, and secret room. Miss Emily praised their teamwork and creativity, and Max felt a sense of accomplishment.

One day, during recess, a new child joined their class. His name was Tommy, and he was a bit shy at first. Max noticed Tommy standing alone by the swings, looking uncertain. Remembering how Lily had reached out to him, Max decided to do the same.

"Hi, Tommy," Max said, approaching him with a friendly smile. "Want to play with us?"

Tommy looked relieved and nodded. "Okay."

Max introduced Tommy to Lily, and the three of them spent the rest of recess playing together. They took turns on the swings, played tag, and shared stories. By the end of the day, Tommy was smiling and laughing along with them.

Max's empathy and kindness continued to shine through in his interactions with others. He was always willing to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. His teachers often remarked on his maturity and thoughtfulness, qualities that set him apart from his peers.

One afternoon, during a quiet reading session, Max found himself lost in a book about dragons and wizards. The story resonated with him, reminding him of his past life as the Mage God. He felt a deep connection to the characters and their struggles, and he couldn't help but imagine himself in their shoes.

"Max, what are you reading?" Miss Emily asked, noticing his intense focus.

Max looked up, his eyes bright with excitement. "It's a book about dragons and magic," he replied. "It's really good."

Miss Emily smiled. "I'm glad you enjoy it. You have a wonderful imagination, Max. Keep nurturing it."

As the days turned into months, Max's experiences in pre-school became a rich tapestry of learning, friendship, and self-discovery. He grew more confident in his abilities and more comfortable in his new life. The bonds he formed with his classmates, particularly Lily and Tommy, provided him with a sense of pride and joy.
