Chapter 6 The Brood

Once the sun arouse Kaneid quickly awoke and went to take a drink of water from his canteen he then hurriedly woke up Eredeti by grabbing his shoulders and shaking him

"My boy it is time to get a move on we don't want to linger to long now do we?"

Eredeti then woke up with a yawn and quickly gathered his belongs Kaneid then threw his canteen over to him

"Drink for our destination is still quite a journey away and we need to be in peak condition"

Eredeti nodded his head then proceeded to drink from the canteen until he was sated of his thirst he then threw the canteen back to Kaneid to which he quickly caught and slid into his robe

"You are quite fast for an old man"

"Hmpph and clearly in more shape than you, you could barely keep up yesterday"

"That was because the mountain was unexpectedly harder to traverse than I had originally thought"

"Excuses my boy, however we won't be traversing the mountains today we will be going west towards the grassy myers filled with many small and beautiful creatures but that also means their are many larger predator's" said Kaneid in a old and raspy voice

"And I thought I would have it more easy well I don't believe we'll run into anything bad right?" Eredeti said in a questioning tone

"That depends my boy"

"Depends on what?"

"Depends on how fast we move for once it turns night the chances of running into such creatures increases exponentially" Kaneid said with a hint of hurry

As they traversed the grassy meadows hurriedly Eredeti would occasionally ask Kaneid more and more about the journey they were on and more of the surroundings and as he would become more and more enlightened on the current situation of the lands surrounding him he had learned of several more things including what those giants made of stones were

It turns out those were giants and although their history was unknown and ancient it was said that they were always at war with each other and are as tall and ancient as the mountains they rest upon some even speculate that they themselves formed the mountains

Eredeti also learned of the surrounding kingdoms and cities and of a variety of races Eredeti also questioned why orcs and goblins were so dangerous

"The orcs and goblins were created by the very first dark being to exist the main source of all evil they were created to be soldiers in his army and to poke and prod at certain races they have physique that is twice as powerful as man and their violent tendencies and lack of intelligence only increases their danger as they only want and wish for war although they have many internal struggles they will all unite against foreign invaders or under the dark lord" Kaneid said with a solemn expression

Eredeti then imagined having to deal with such a army and was relived he had never encountered orcs before "sounds like a pain to have to deal with such a race"

"It indeed is, especially if a champion or commander arises among them because they can organize and control the others of their race due to the orcs obsession with power as they only recognize those with power or the dark lord as their master"

While Eredeti and Kaneid were traveling they stopped rarely for anything and as they continued their journey Eredeti was awed at the sheer beauty of the land around him

"You weren't lying when you said this place was beautiful old man" Eredeti said with a rather excited tone of voice

"indeed it is but their is a reason no one lives here" Kaneid said while looking up at the sky to see how much sun they have left

"We still have about 4 hours of sunlight left if we hurry we can near the edge of the myers and set up camp" Kaneid said with a hurried voice

Kaneid and Eredeti were now running as they only had a hours left of sun and they were only 75% of the way there and as they were running they had to avoid a pack of caragors

Now nearly there with the sun already down they speed up and arrived at the edge with no time to spar and Eredeti quickly slid down a tree and started taking heavy breaths tired from the long run

"Old man your a mystery" Eredeti said

While kaneid was drinking from his canteen he looked back at Eredeti "How so?"

"You're barely tired from that long run only a fool wouldn't see it"

Kaneid then threw his canteen towards Eredeti he then caught it and Kaneid replied with a hint of sarcasm "Of course I am a mystery I am a wizard after all my boy"

"Sure thing old man" Eredeti said

Eredeti was done drinking from the canteen and threw it back to Kaneid they then hurriedly set up camp, Once camp was up and they were relatively safe from danger Eredeti sat down and was thinking of practicing again but decided not to and just chose to wait for now and ask more questions

"Hey old man where do you come from" Eredeti asked

"I come from a land far far away from here my boy" Kaneid said

"So what are you doing here then"

"The very exact reason were on this journey"

"Oh, yeah you haven't exac-" Eredeti was forced to come to a stop when Kaneid shushed him and signaled him to be quiet and quickly put out the fire

Kaneid had a worried and solemn expression on when he did and whispered "It seems that their are creatures of darkness nearby now quietly and I mean quietly prepare yourself"

Once Eredeti heard this he very carefully grabbed his sword and dagger and prepared himself for what was to come Kaneid then signaled him to stay as close to the tree as possible and once they were up against the trees they waited for nearly 10 minutes

Until Eredeti heard a small screeching noise and what seemed to be some tapping he quickly went in full alert mode and as he saw a pack of what seemed to be abnormally big spiders easily being 1.5 meters tall and 1 meter long and half a meter wide they were walking by them quite fast and Eredeti thought that nearly all of them had passed when he looked back yo Kaneid he signaled to him to be quiet and to look up

Once Eredeti looked up he saw an even bigger spider making its way over them through the trees but it thankfully passed

*Sigh* "That was a Clos- aghhh" Eredeti could barely say anything before being attacked by one of the spiders and forced to the ground

The spider tried desperately to bite at Eredeti while he was on the ground but Eredeti was desperately holding onto it and Eredeti quickly reached for his dagger and once he got a hold of it he used it to stab into the spiders head

"Sccchhreeeecccccchhh" It made a low screeching sound before falling on top of Eredeti he then quickly pushed it off and heard a familiar sound

He then looked at Kaneid and Whispered "Why didn't you help me!"

"I saw no need to, that spider was quite weak so I thought you could handle it yourself, besides I had to prepare for what is to come now that we've been discovered" Kaneid said he then quickly went towards Eredeti and pulled him up

Kaneid then said in a serious tone "We must hide or escape otherwise we will be swarmed by the spider brood and make sure you don't get bit no matter what understood?"

"Understood"

"Good now we must escape from the flank it is now easily passable now that most of the brood have already went ahead"

Eredeti and Kaneid hurriedly packed their belongs while Eredeti killed 2 more spiders protecting Kaneid from any ambush's once they fully packed up they ran towards the exit of the forest

They were running for about half an hour but the attacks seemed to be getting more frequent

"It seems that the brood have communicated to each other our location and are now pursuing us, This isn't good we have to hurry!" Kaneid said while casting a spell "Oh the mighty Ablion give us speed to traverse through the lands Spodious!"

All of sudden a weird power surged through Eredeti legs and he felt faster and was now running nearly twice as fast compared to before

Eredeti how ever was visibly getting more and more fatigued compared to before and then he saw it, the exit to the forest "Finally the end!" Eredeti yelled

Kaneid looked back and said "Keep up my boy we are nearly there!" however what he saw next was frightening he saw all of the brood and the larger ones right behind them still screeching looking even more angry and ferocious compared to before and then he saw one right on top of the tree next to Eredeti

"Eredeti above you! Above you!" Kaneid shouted as loud as he could to reach Eredeti

Eredeti then looked above him but it was to late the spider jumped on top of him its velocity and weight bringing him down and he quickly dispatched it but it was to late 5 more were already on top of him about to devourer him

Eredeti however quickly got back up and started running and one by one he finished them off and Kaneid yelled out "There the exit were almost out of the forest once we get out they can no longer follow us for they fear the light of the moon and the sun"

Once Eredeti heard Kaneid he increased his speed now running with everything he had and finally he jumped and was now outside of the forest

"Phew finally free" Eredeti said with a tired and nearly sick expression

"Finally indeed my boy" Kaneid said

However Kaneid noticed that Eredeti was looking rather too sickly and pale

"My boy were you hurt?" Kaneid asked

"Uhh I don't think so, maybe?" as Eredeti said this he started feeling extremely weak he then collapsed on the ground and had nearly fainted

"Eredeti, Eredeti?!" Kaneid yelled then quickly went to his side just to see multiple bites on his side and back and it seemed that the only reason he made it this far was his adrenalin for the broods venom was fatal

Kaneid quickly checked Eredetis pulse and found it weak and slowly getting weaker all Kaneid could do was keep him awake and stop the pain the for him and once Eredeti slowly opened his eyes he saw Kaneid that had started to have tears well in his eyes

"My boy I am truly sorry" Kaneid said as he let Eredeti rest in his arms

"Sorry about wha-" *Cough* Cough* "about what?" Eredeti said although he couldn't exactly tell what was happening he still felt his eyes getting heavier and heavier the longer he had them open

"I'm sorry this old fool wasn't strong enough to protect you from dying, I'm sorry that I am the last face you will see in this world and not that of your loved ones" Kaneid said with tears welling in his eyes

"What do you mean old man.... Im. Not going. To die. Not without. Not Without. Not W-" Eredeti hands fell limp to the ground and now he couldn't even talk and could only look up at the old man as he stopped hearing the sound of his voice and stopped smelling the field of grass they were on and finally stopped breathing but he still looked up at the old man who's tear were now falling on his face and his vision then slowly faded out to black 'Oh is this how it feels like to die I don't remember this feeling but I don't want to go back to that lonelily void' 'No! I don't want to go back to that darkness not again, Please not again'

Eredeti screamed and screamed with him only feeling pain, agony, despair, and anger for why he had to return to this place he screamed for hours upon end then all of a sudden he heard a familiar sound

POV switch to Kaneid

As he saw Eredeti body finally go limp and his eyes go lifeless he hugged the now cold Eredeti and said "Im sorry my boy but I must move on I am truly sorry to leave you here" he said then he laid Eredeti down on the ground and surrounded him with flowers and said "May your soul rest in peace and may you forgive me in the after life

Once he gathered his things together and was about to leave something ominous and mysterious happened the sky started to turn black with some Green mixed in and the darkness kept gathering until it looked like it was a black hole about to suck in whatever was underneath it Kaneid then turned back to see Eredetis body slowly raising in a unnatural way then as if it has never existed it turned to pure black and green smoke and dissipated into the air and at the very same time the clouds disappeared

"What was that?!" Kaneid asked himself he then hurriedly ran towards the closest town that was on his map and decided to wait here to see what would happen to the cloud and the body of Eredeti
