The Seeker System

After the 'Century of Phenomena', humanity had declined by more than two thirds it's population and eventually pushed back into 'Zones' where they were forced to live in 'District Cities'. The world outside the zones had become desolate wastelands inhospitable for them. The 'Century of Phenomena' brought plagues and destruction. Turning most plants and animals into horrid mutant beasts, unleashing monstrous creatures from 'Gates', and turning undead, the fallen population of humanity. But, it also brought hope for the survivors to endure the warped landscape. It brought forth an explosive advancement in technology and filled the earth with magic. Humans even experienced 'Evolutions' only seen in fantasy. It took half a century before that Hell unleashed and forced humans back. Now, evolved/awakened humans are known as 'Seekers' that delve into the wastelands within their zones to scrounge for treasures, artifacts, and anything useful. They also clear 'Gates' to procure the same. Life within the 'District Cities' was almost the same as before the Phenomena. Seekers are the heroes of society, and hold much influence. Connor W. Michael is one such Seeker. But, he is the weakest to ever awaken. Abused as a lowly 'Porter', he endures things worse than any mutant, monster. or zombie... Human Cruelty. But this is his beginning, the beginning of his journey from The Weakest to The Strongest.

Trouble

Connor was caught, easily. Each of the men were Low C Rank or Higher, the highest was a Low B Rank. Connor was brought down to the basement and thrown to the ground in front of the fancy woman.

She was very attractive, around mid forties. She had a very active body, and firm, moderate, breasts that seemed to be her proudest feature, as they were pressed up and show cased noticeably. Her skin looked extraordinarily smooth, and her beauty was stunning, for a human.

She had blond hair, and purple eyes. She looked at Connor in heated fury, but a look of recognition quickly replaced her anger.

"Oh my! Is that my Connor? By God, it is! Oh, look at you, covered in dirt and soot. Hmm, search him." The woman recognized Connor, but Connor did not recognize her. He was searched and his holoscreen was found and confiscated. But nothing else was found on him.

"This is all he had. A holoscreen." The B Rank handed his holoscreen over and stated. The woman began searching through it.

"Hmm, this isn't a holoscreen. It's a Holodrive. All information regarding the orphanage has been recorded on it. But, where did you get such a precious trinket? And where are your, mmm... caretakers?" The woman paused on the second question.

"I don't know. What caretakers?" Connor replied.

"Oh, nevermind. They'll be around. I want my Portal, Connor. Where is it? All of it?" The woman asked.

"Portal? What Portal?" Connor feigned ignorance.

"Mhm, I see how this is going to go." The woman snapped her finger and turned away. The B Rank stepped forward, two other men picked Connor up from behind, and Connor sighed.

'Here we go again.'

The B Rank buried his fist into Connors abdomen. It was uncomfortable, but Connor stared at the B Rank with a stone faced look, taunting him. The next punch crossed his Jaw, busting Connors lips again. Connor smiled.

"Are you holding back on me?" Connor inquired with a grin.

[Favor Increased with Invidia.]

[Interest piqued with a war god.]

[Gained Class Skill: Taunt (Level: 1)- Your words and actions infuriate. The longer you Taunt the target, the faster they lose patience, increasing the chance for an opening by 10%.]

Connor could see the B Rank becoming quite irritated as he pit more effort into his punches.

'I'll use this chance to gain some levels.'

"Come on man, what was that? Put some back into it." Connor yawned. The B Rank seemed to take quite the offense to those words, because the next punch actually made the two holding Connor, slide back a foot. Still, the pain was mitigated to a minor irritation.

[Taunt Leveled Up.]

[Taunt Leveled Up.]

"Hah, Yeah, no. I ain't feeling it boss." Connor sighed.

[Taunt Leveled Up.]

[Taunt Leveled Up.]

[Taunt Leveled Up.]

[Successfully Taunted Targets.]

'Targets? Multiple?'

Connor felt the grip lessen on both sides, and The B Rank pulled his arm back, seemingly charging a skill. Connor could tell, that one was gonna feel like something.

Just as the B Rank began to throw his punch, Connor used the chance, while the grips were loose, to slip out of one and moved the second into the path of the punch.

[BHC Leveled Up.]

The punch sent the poor guy through the wall behind and into the room on the other side. Connor stared at the new hole and then at the two astonished men and the woman.

"Ahem, well, that was rather rude." Connor cleared his throat.

[Taunt Leveled Up.]

[Title: He who Jests.]

"What are you two buffoons doing? Grab him!" The woman snapped. Connor turned and ran up the stairs. The two men quickly followed after. Connor turned around at the landing and punched the first guy, which sent him into the B Rank, causing them to fall.

[Gained Class Skill: Ambush (Level: 1)- (Nonlethal version of Assassination) targets get stunned for 5 seconds.

"Oh, interesting. Oh yeah, if you're talking about Minerva and her cronies, I killed them!" Connor called down and then bolted. He went out the back, because the front was guarded, and ran as fast as he could, his goal the Portal Center.

Of course, plenty of the Seekers under the woman were now racing after him. It didn't take long to reach more crowded areas, where more eyes would see. And they saw a young man being chased by ten or eleven well dressed men.

The best part of hitting crowded streets, was the fact that they were crowded. Connor slipped through with plenty of ease, but the group of men ended up slowed down. The crowd swallowed Connor up from their sight. The Portal Center was still miles away. The area he was in was an outside shopping mall.

Connor jumped into a nearby clothes shop he had spotted and began undressing the blazer, tossed it and took a shirt off the rack tossed a silver at the register and picked out a hat and sun glasses, finishing with a simple leather jacket.

The men had begun stopping and grabbing all red sweater wearing passersby. Connor took that chance to slip out and continued on his way towards the Portal Center.

*District City 30*

Connor wandered around, lost in the street maze of close-knit buildings and towering skyscrapers and its massive crowds.

"I prefer Nine..." Connor grumbled as he made his way through. He got odd looks due to his strange look. A pink cat t shirt, black studded leather jacket, yellow 'fun' sunglasses and unicorn flatbill hat. As well as his sooty face. He asked around about a Ring Fight, but got mostly giggles.

"Hah... hmm." Connor sighed, but then someone tugged on his arm. He looked over to see a girl motioning to follow.

"You know where the fights are?" Connor asked. She nodded and Connor followed. He was led to an alley of neon signs, all had burly men standing outside.

"This is The Fight Alley. All of the Fight Rings are held here. But, you're gonna need to look the part to get in." The girl stated. She took the sunglasses off of his face, tossed them to the ground, knocked the hat off and then held her hand out.

"Give me the shirt and Jacket." She demanded.

'Am I being robbed by a fifteen year old?'

Connor did as he was told and handed them over. The girl stared at Connor for a moment, and then nodded.

"Now you look like a fighter. Actually, you look like you've already been fighting. Are your ribs broken? Hah, American Zoners. Come on, I'll clean you up first." The girl sighed and grabbed Connors hand, leading him into the alley.
