The Seeker System

After the 'Century of Phenomena', humanity had declined by more than two thirds it's population and eventually pushed back into 'Zones' where they were forced to live in 'District Cities'. The world outside the zones had become desolate wastelands inhospitable for them. The 'Century of Phenomena' brought plagues and destruction. Turning most plants and animals into horrid mutant beasts, unleashing monstrous creatures from 'Gates', and turning undead, the fallen population of humanity. But, it also brought hope for the survivors to endure the warped landscape. It brought forth an explosive advancement in technology and filled the earth with magic. Humans even experienced 'Evolutions' only seen in fantasy. It took half a century before that Hell unleashed and forced humans back. Now, evolved/awakened humans are known as 'Seekers' that delve into the wastelands within their zones to scrounge for treasures, artifacts, and anything useful. They also clear 'Gates' to procure the same. Life within the 'District Cities' was almost the same as before the Phenomena. Seekers are the heroes of society, and hold much influence. Connor W. Michael is one such Seeker. But, he is the weakest to ever awaken. Abused as a lowly 'Porter', he endures things worse than any mutant, monster. or zombie... Human Cruelty. But this is his beginning, the beginning of his journey from The Weakest to The Strongest.

First 'Class'

"So you're basically a human shell, with undead insides... That's rather cool... but not at the same time, I mean who does that?" Robert quickly corrected himself.

"Cool." Connor agreed.

"Why are men like this?" Mina shook her head.

"The simple prospect of using undead organs in a hope to find a practically limitless source for transplants, is a rather noble idea. But, it was conducted in a horrendous manner." Brian added his two bits in.

"But it was successful! My father was a brilliant mind! Though, I had no idea you were one if the special cases, my dear Connor!" Sarah had found her way in, long ago, but the group was too busy listening to Connors back story. Now, they were surrounded. Connor noticed she held a secondary badge, noting that she must have gotten in with it.

"Oh my!" Brian stated as he was pushes together with the rest of the group.

"Wait, is that an Undead? And that?" Sarah pointed at Brian and then Ivory.

"Her name is Ivory!" Connor raised his voice in anger.

"Yeah, and he's Brian! You... very sexy villainess!" Robert's inability to curse, was a curse.

"I like you, you can live." Sarah pointed at Robert with a sly smile.

"You said Dr. Carlos was your father?" Connor asked.

"Yes, a brilliant mind. My mother was as well, there was nothing they couldn't do!" Sarah bragged.

"Raise a daughter?" Connor put forth.

"Conduct useful research?" Mina asked.

"Give you enough attention?" Robert jumped in.

"A successful full brain transplant?" Brian added. The rest of the group stared at him.

"Well if your going to do half a brain, a full one is to be expected! You can't half ass these things, it's science!" Brian defended.

"ENOUGH! Do you know what situation you are in right now?" Sarah screamed angrily.

"A hungry one." Connor replied.

"Oh man, I feel that! All those floors with their innumerable monsters and freakish undead, I'm starved!" One of the men said.

"You know, I was just at this local restaurant in thirty, great barbecued eel." Connor told the man.

"You don't say! Do you remember the name?" The guy asked.

"SHUT UP! Shut the fuck up! You! Quit talking! And you! Ohohoho! I've had enough of you!" Sarah screamed, pointed first at the guy then at Connor.

"Are you sure?" Connor replied.

"Do you always have to have the last word?" Sarah was turning red from anger.

"No." Connor answered.

"That was meant to be a rhetorical question!" Sarah continued the banter. At this point the men surrounding the group were looking everywhere but at the two of them bickering.

"Oh, my bad. Which one of you guys is Rhetorical?" Connor asked the group of men. This received sounds of stifled laughter.

"Enough, kill him!" Sarah growled.

"Can I say one thing more?" Connor answered.

"What?" Sarah snapped.

"Ad lib." Connor nodded towards the door. The entire time they were talking, Connor noticed the guards looking away and slipped the badge to Ivory, who slunk away and around to the door. Sarah, who had been staring at Connor the whole time, failed to notice his sly actions. All because...

[Target Successfully Taunted.]

"When...!" Sarah began, but as soon as the attention was away, the group collectively pushes passed the weakest link in the ring of cronies, the woman herself. While they did, Connor snatched the second badge from her hand.

"I guess your parents also failed to raise a smart daughter as well!" Connor shouted as he dove through the door as it was closing. It locked behind him, and sealed the cronies inside.

"Well, that was a lot easier than expected." Brian noted. He still held the holofiles for the alphabet subjects. Connor held his hand out.

"I'll keep those safe." Connor stayed. Brian handed them over and Connor put them in his Inventory.

"My word. They vanished!" Brian gasped.

"Yeah, and we should too! Look!" Mina pointed at the door, it was glowing red hot.

"Oh, yeah, that's our cue." Connor stood up, lifted Ivory onto his shoulders and booked it. The others followed behind.

"Does that mean we have to run up several flights of stairs to the top floor?" Mina complained.

"I'm terribly sorry miss, but the magi platforms were broken by some loose man made goblins." Brian told her. They had already ran up two flights, with thirty or so more to go.

"Man made?" Mina asked incredulously.

"Yes, one of the top floor experiments. Breeding children with goblins. There was also the turning children to goblins experiment, though less successful. They used mainly female children between the ages of ten and fourteen for the breeding part, and mainly male children, aged six to fourteen, for the turning." Brian explained.

"The next time I see that bitch, I'ma punch her in the mouth for saying her parents were geniuses!" Mina gritted her teeth.

"You'll get your chance, we're gonna use the third floor to make a final stand, but, I'm going to dwindle their numbers!" Connor stated as he began making a lot of noise.

"I see, your antics are quite correct. The man made beasties on these floors are very sensitive to noise, and will go after the first non member of its species that it finds." Brian nodded. But it also meant they had to fight their way up if they weren't fast enough.

"Brian!" Connor dropped back to Brian and held his hand out.

"What? Ate you holding something microscopic?" Brian asked.

"Contract." Connor corrected.

"Ah, I see. So this is how you've tamed miss Ivory. Very well... am I supposed to shake?" Brian inquired. Ivory looked at him, opened her mouth, pointed and bit down.

"How vulgar! I'll have you know, as a Lich, I haven't any desire to eat anything except magic! That's why I am a failure, I have zero hostility." Brian shook his head.

"One time deal, you don't have to eat me, it's just my blood that's needed." Connor corrected.

"Very well, but I'm not keen on it either way." Brian stated as he bit into Connors flesh.

"I see, but nothing about controlling the undead, just raising the dead." Connor mumbled to himself.

"That wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. Though the sudden intrusive feeling of loyalty is a bit vexing." Brian muttered to himself.

A new thought suddenly occurred to Connor.

'But, I don't want him following me around all the time...'
