The Fool’s System

“My system is WHAT!?” In this new Earth, fantasy has now become the norm. People gain systems and are given unique abilities to help humans thrive in the new world. On my birthday, the 11th of November at 11:11, I gained my own unique system. The Fool’s system. Are you kidding me? How am I supposed to do anything with that!?

My system is WHAT!?

"Henry! If you don't get out of bed I'll drag you out myself!" The piercing voice of my father rang through my ears and jolted me awake.

"I'm up! I'm up!" I called out, slowly rolling out of bed. Today was a day that my parents placed great importance on - my 18th birthday. At 11:11 am today, I will gain my very own system. Like many, I have spent these years speculating what I might get. Maybe I'll get an all powerful sorcerer variant! Or maybe I'll get the strongest combat class! Or even... A unique class! Despite that, my expectations weren't particularly high. I was never particularly smart or athletic growing up, and if I had to be tested on my physical or mental prowess, I would just barely fall short of the average human. I was very talented at weaselling my way out of trouble and making excuses though. At that I was king.

However, my parents never shared my pessimism, as my father has a unique variant class- the flickering archer. He was capable of making arrows temporarily disappear, which lead to him gaining a high rank in the military.

My mother, on the other hand, had a unique variant of an enchanter - mana weaver. She was capable of creating clothes interwoven with mana itself to create lots of mystical effects! So, it's safe to say the expectations of my parents was incredibly high, and the pressure was on.

Although my expectations were low, I couldn't help but hope for an awesome combat system. After all, in the pre-monster Earth, they celebrated the end of a war around this time. So maybe I will get something great?

Quickly, I got dressed and made my way downstairs to be met with a swathe of guests already present, waiting for me to emerge from my hole. I was showered in attention from various relatives and family friends, with everyone trying to guess my system.

"Oh I hope your like your father, he was so successful."

"Maybe their systems will be combined! Like a flickering weave bow archer! No, that's not right..."

After awkwardly exchanging pleasantries and recovering endless praise, I slithered into a corner to escape the hordes of praise. Soon after, the party settled down and I finally had some breathing room. I understand that they are excited for my system, but it's 8 o'clock! Let me sleep for God's sake!

The time ticked by at an excruciatingly slow pace, and I was forced to interact with others to alleviate the mind numbing boredom. After several centuries of waiting, 11:10 rolled around, and I was dragged to the front of everyone to announce my system when it arrived.

And so, I waited.

Ten seconds rolled by.

Twenty seconds in, the room was dead silent, everyone on the edge of their seats.

Forty seconds in, I stood in between the eager gazed of everyone present, waiting awkwardly for the system to appear.

Fifty seconds in, I was on the verge of just begging for the system to end my suffering.

Ding!

~Welcome to the Fool's system!~

As the fool, you are great at fighting with artifice and distracting others. You have excellent control over facial expressions and body language, with a great sense of balance.

You are naturally talented at acting and deceiving others. Good luck on your journey to become the Fool! Attributes have been adjusted according to the System. (You can open the system menu at any time!)

"My system is WHAT!?" I involuntarily called out as I read the window that had appeared in consternation. Murmurs echoed through the room as people tried to decipher my reactions before my father called out to me.

"What is it?" He said, with eyes filled to the brim with expectation and hope.

"I-it's the Fool's system..."

Silence drowned out the noise in the room as everyone became deathly silent. My fathers expression warped before he asked:

"Is it combat related?" He said, holding on to the last thread of hope he had.

"Yes." I replied as the room erupted with voices shouting praise and affection. Initially, I was rather confused, as my system did not seem like something worth celebrating, but it was quickly explained that this meant that I had received my very own unique system! It was a wondrous occasion, but I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed, as it wasn't something epic like the heroes form one hundred years ago, with systems like Martial Emperor system or the Dragon slayer system. Instead, I just became a bloody clown. How is this going to help me fight monsters!?

Still, my parents did not share my pessimism as per usual, and celebrated through the night with the other guests. Once the excitement had settled, I found some time to inspect my attributes and skills to determine if I really was doomed.
