House construction
"Buzz-buzz. Buzz-buzz." This was the sound from a vibrating phone on the table. The phone ring moved him from the world of imagination into reality. His pen and a note book still in hands. He quickly stretches his hand to take the phone and see who was calling. He finds a new number on the call. He takes a deep breath before taking the call.
"Hello, this is Yuhumin, from Chinese engineering company, am I talking to Mr. Matatizo?" This was the voice from the phone. He quickly remembered he had contacted the same company for construction. " Yes, am the one." He answered. " Am calling you to inform you that our company is ready to begin the contract you had requested and you are required to pay a deposit of $5000 before a survey is done." Yuhumin added. "Am very ready and everything is in position. I think you are going to take the shortest time possible to complete the house." Matatizo said." Fine, hope we are going to use live location on Google maps to find you." Yuhumin added. "Ok, am looking forward to seeing you in the shortest time possible. Thanks for your call." Matatizo finished the conversation. The phone call was hanged up.
Matatizo in his chair takes back the note book and the pen and continues with his calculations. Though he was not good at mathematics as he claimed that his campus lecturer just naturally hated him but this did not disadvantage him. The little concept he knew in mathematics was very essential at that moment. He would most of the time come out strongly saying that even if mathematics was a challenge to him but no one would challenge him in money calculations. In his chair he pretended to be an experienced engineer through the quotations he was putting down on paper. Before he could finish the quotations he heard the hooting of a vehicle from the far end of the hotel followed by a phone call.
"Hello, we are at OliMa guest house hotel and from the live location it is showing that you are around here", this was the voice from the call. "Just give me five minutes I will be out to pick you, am just up stairs, are you in that black Mercedes Benz am seeing over there?" He said. " Yes, just come out," Yuhumin answered. Matatizo hanged up the phone call and quickly moved downstairs from the second floor of the hotel storey house. He was fully prepared to negotiate with the engineering company so that he could minimize losses. Him being in business for for long time he had experience in bargaining so that was an easy task for him. On his first step outside the hotel he met two brown skin individuals with small eyes and just jumped to conclusions that they were the Chinese Engineers. He began the conversation straight away.
Matatizo: (with a smiling face) Hello, happy to see you. Am the individual you have been conversing with on the phone.
Yuhumin: (stretching out his hand for greetings) Am Yuhumin, the chief Chinese Engineer . ( Pointing to the other man) and this is my personal driver.
Matatizo: Time wasted shall never be recovered, let us straight away head to the land for survey. It's only five kilometers from here.
The drive took his chair and ignited the automatic Mercedes Benz. Matatizo took the back seat as Yuhumin sat Infront next to the driver. As an experienced driver, it didn't took them much time traveling to New Jerusalem where the land was located. The land was surveyed and the agreed amount paid directly to the company through direct bank transfers. Yuhumin did some measurements and wrote quotations to Matatizo. This was a least of what he was going to gather before the house construction could commence. On the least was sand, ballast, building stones, cement, metals just to mention afew. "Are you able to get a liable source of the materials or can I connect you to someone although at a far distance from here," Yuhumin said. Matatizo nodded his head and accepted the Chinese Engineer to source for all materials because him as a hotel manager was always busy.
After a serious conversation, an agreement was reached at and Yuhumin ordered for the material to comence the building process. Matatizo had directly employed many of jobless youth in New Jerusalem to assist the engineers in construction hence there was no need to hire other unskilled workers from other places. Yuhumin was given the temporary house that initially belonged to Matatizo to reside in as the construction works were on. Yuhumin ordered construction tools and machines from his company and added other three engineers to fasten the building process.
Matatizo having little knowledge about the people at New Jerusalem, he believed that they were good people and there was no need to put security on assembled materials. The greedy levels in people didn't allow them to stay honest. The New Jerusalem residents only gave Matatizo an allowance of two weeks before they started sneaking into the compound during night hours to steal expensively imported construction materials.Matatizo came to this conclusion after finding some construction materials from area hardwares and the materials were only limited to Chinese construction companies. This forced him to stop villagers from working there because he uprightly thought that they were the source of connection for stealing the materials. He went out of his way and sourced workers from a town far away from New Jerusalem. He also hired a soldier and gave him a fake gun to threaten thieves.
With tight security in place with some threatens he knew his materials will be safe and construction could go on without any interference. As an educated fellow, he knew arresting villagers from New Jerusalem could cause a lifetime gradge thus breaking relationship with them since he was going to be a permanent resident in the New Jerusalem. Construction ran successfully and game to completion after putting strategies in position.
The Chinese company continued with other finishing procedures like painting, installing electric power, placing tyford tiles and plumbing works. His target was to come out with a fine structure that could be ranked among top ten classic houses in the whole world. He got the finest structure which costed him around $50000. This could appeared much money to him but since he was in partnership with the British lover, Olivia, it wasn't a big problem. He went out of his way to import expensive furniture from the Chinese company and set the house comfortable to accommodate even the kings, queens, presidents and all other people treated as special with honours.
The excess materials that were left after his house was constructed were assembled and used them to construct a beautiful gate with his house sorrounded by a perimeter wall. On the top of the perimeter wall was an electric fence for maximum security.
His mission being to eradicate poverty and shame in the family, he decided to set up two more houses for his mother and brother. This time round he didn't hire the Chinese Engineer because of the high cost but rather sourced for experienced experts in construction who used locally available materials to make international structures. The two houses totalled to a cost of $35000 to be fully completed with furniture included.
Him accomplishing this he was now ready to marry Olivia since everything was in position. The only thing he lacked was a personal vehicle for which he was not in a hurry to buy. He knew at long last he will just purchase an expensive vehicle. He decided to hire one fine decent Germany Benz to use for his personal traveling. It costed him $20 per day with $10 payment for his personal driver daily. A cost of $30 everyday was nothing to him since he was receiving alot of income from his hotel. He decided now to organize for marriage being one of his rites of passage in his culture.
Being a man, he was incomplete without having a wife with children. The few things that were blocking him from marriage were now fully sorted out and it was the high time he was going to gain a new title through marriage. He had set up a big house to accommodate his British in-laws whenever they could visit his home country. The house constructed was an aesthetic to the whole of New Jerusalem and at some times attracted tourist to have a look and take photographs.
The house also created employment opportunities since Matatizo had to employ a two gatemen and two housegirls to help him with house chores. He had some cows to produce milk for home consumption and industrial use thus employing many workers in the compound to facilitate flow of daily activities in the compound. Everything now in position and set for the next step in life. During this time he is only twenty seven years old. His face was still young and attractive due to his high levels of cleanness. He always kept his hair short ignoring the wise men who said that knowledge is hair. Matatizo now fearlessly decided to take the right of passage which was marriage in a special way.
