The Editor Gets A Second Chance

James gets transported back to 1977. After living for 39 years, and being an editor for many film franchises, can he take advantage of his skills to get ahead of the entertainment curb? This novel was originally made by me, but I'm re-uploading it as a fan-fic because Webnovel won't let me change it in the settings. Hopefully, this increases viewership. James had many projects that he wanted to work on, but not necessarily because he wanted to put them on his resume or because he wanted to be recognized as a good director.

All of those things were not as important to him.

What has always been his goal is to get his business started, so he could run his own company.

Being able to pridefully say that HE was the one who produced all of these movies and making sure his company is on top is his number one priority.

Right now he is only on step one.

He has established his skills first as a screenwriter and now as a director. This has allowed him to get his foot in the door and work with many of the big production companies.

Many want his services and to work with him, but that mostly pertains to his creative capabilities, like being a director in one of THEIR movies.

But, obviously, this doesn't sit well with James. He wants the biggest share of the pie and he wants them to work on his movies.

It's a bit entitled, especially with him stealing most of these works, but it's what he's always wanted. Establishing something for himself is James' greatest dream right now.

Of course, no one wants to allow James to do that, nor do they believe he can make it on his own.

It's already become apparent to James that the main reason no one is even trying to come over to his company is because of how safe it is to be under one of the big three movie production companies.

Why take a risk on a wildfire like James?

The major 3 also look at James as if he was just a cute kid, with nothing else to offer but be a paycheck for them. Everyone views James as if he was a piggy bank just waiting to make them money, but no one thinks that James himself is capable of making use of his abilities for himself or that he knows how to run a production company.

And to be fair, many of them would be right. James doesn't know how to run a production company.

But, he knows how to run himself and how to make use of his knowledge.

It's what he's done ever since he transmigrated. Working in this industry has shown how important someone like James is.

Without people like James, the creative ones, Hollywood can't function.

James also has as much knowledge as anyone on how a production is supposed to run. He might not have every bit of information on how the backend of production works, but it's enough to be able to run things.

As long as James bets on himself, his scripts, and his movies then he can make any of his movies work.

James' main focus is finding the right people to hire.

James is only hesitant to hire just any slew of people as employees, even though he knows he needs them.

It's not good to just hire any random person, that is a surefire way to ruin his company.

James wants to ensure that he has the right infrastructure in place and that he knows exactly how it's running.

-----

Right now is the most important time not only for James' company and its growth, but for all of Hollywood and even every industry in America.

Right now is the start of the big boom that is going to happen over the next 20 years.

Every industry is in its most desperate state, but those who manage to circumvent the rut and stand through all of the debt will be the ones who rake in the millions 10 years later.

"Morning, Mr. Dubois"

"You can call me by my first name, James."

"Ha, I don't think I can do that... I'm here on business."

"Does that make a difference? I don't think you've ever been here to not talk about business."

"Well, maybe so- except when I was here working on props."

"Ah, yeah, that is true. On Alien, you did work on alot of the props and you did a really good job... Those were good times. -So, what can I do for you?"

"Well, I'm not sure if you've heard, but I've started my own production company."

"Yes, of course, I've heard about it. A lot of us are talking about it, many think you're starting out a bit early."

"Is that what you think, as well?"

"Well, I'm not sure what I think, but at least I know you alot better than those talking. I know you are pretty good at what you do and you're alot better at planning than they think."

"Well, I appreciate it, sir... But, to cut to the chase, I wanted to know if you wanted to invest in my company."

This was a very important business meeting in James' head. There weren't too many people James could fully trust on the production side, and there weren't many as capable either.

"Invest? You know, I have my own production company, James. It's doing pretty well, too."

"I know that, but this is just like another opportunity."

"An opportunity?"

"Yes, you don't need to be that hands-on with the company, I just am going to ask for your help at times. No different than what you do now, with things like the set or with the location."

"Well, that's still alot to ask James. I'm busy."

"Yes, I know, but I still have to ask you anyways. Is there truly no way for you to help me out? Is there no way you can invest in my company?"

"..."

"Let me think about it," Dubois said, as he stands up and looks at the window in his office, contemplating.
