As the author of this novel, I would give it 100 stars if I could. Unfortunately, I can't. Sigh, it's easy to be shameless but tough to be a writer. Anyways, let me tell you guys a few things about my novel. -What is this novel about? It is about an orphan named Bryan who embarks on the Path of a Transcendent. The story is set in a steampunk world with churches and secret organizations. -Can you describe Bryan? Growing up on the streets, he has mastered the art of theft to survive and fill his stomach. Bryan is a very mischievous person who loves to prank others. But he is also very crafty and quick-witted. -What is a Transcendent? They are a group of extraordinary people who wield enormous power and strange abilities. They embark on different Paths and gain different abilities. -Is Bryan overpowered? NO! Bryan is not a gigachad. He starts off weak but gradually becomes overpowered as he embarks on a unique Path. -Will there be NSFW scenes? Yes, there will be violence and gore. There will also be a few dirty scenes but not too many. -Will there be romance? Uhmmm, not sure. Not anytime soon at least. Perhaps somewhere down the line, Bryan will get married and start a family. We'll see what happens. NO HAREM. Finally, this is my heartfelt request to all the readers. The novel starts off slow and is very detailed. But things start getting super interesting from chapter 20 onwards. Therefore, I hope you can believe in me and continue to support me.
I absolutely love a steam punk world setting. And if you add a bit of thievery, mystical and many other great aspects into to it you get the amazing mix of awesomeness and suspenseful moments, called The Deceitful One. The pacing is really good and there aren't any gigantic info-dumps that leaves you mentally exhausted, which makes for a really nice reading experience. The author is also really active in the comments and actually responds to feedback that is given. Sometimes you can also find some awesome images in the comments that the author publishes which depict the area or the person that the paragraph is describing. This allows us readers to better visualize the environment and the people of the book, which for me is huge plus! So go ahead and give this one a chance, you won't regret it
It's an interesting take in the LOTM "genre", does a good job o humanizing the M.C and making him less mysterious to the readers. It's a bit of a pity that the paths don't have cooler names tho (Path names are very representative of what they do, there's little mystery. Ex: Strenght path, Fire path, Water path, Blood path, Ilusion Path, Death path, etc...) and apparently transcedent ranks don't have their own monikers too, it was always fun to discover new trandescent path names in LOTM... For those with shorter attention spans, good novel, lacks cooler and more mysterious path names.
The story is well thought out and the grammar is clean, neat and well written. I also enjoyed the plot of the story as well, very smooth and understandable. I know it starts a bit grey due to the MC's past but reading through the thoughts of the mc, Bryan, it's a bit funny too. Just from reading a few chapters I was able to visualize what was happening like a movie. I enjoyed the immersive nature of the story. And the situations made sense, heck, I would say they were kind of realistic. A very good story with a lot of potential overall.
The writing is fantastic, and the imagery is superb. I don't typically give out 5 stars, but this novel deserves it! My only gripe is that the paragraphs are a bit on the bulkier side when considering the standards set by Webnovel. That aside, the read was incredibly entertaining, especially with how authentic the dialogue is. A rare achievement for many novels to claim for sure!
