Interlude: Deleting Bugs (Edited)
In between the folds of reality a protector activated. It spanned hundreds of millions of realities all focused on the maintenance and glory of humankind, but it was broken. Its ascended masters had all disappeared fighting of the FILTH of the void it spread across each universe each reality devouring everything that came in its way.
But still the engine ran it would run until it destroyed itself it fulfilled its purpose to the best of its abilities even with it being assaulted on all sides defending the reality it came from protecting humanity from its reckoning that was long overdo.
Energy crackled its parts booted up finding itself in desperate states the once grand machine now a shadow of its former self but still it followed through with its commands caring for the once mighty race that built it. The once mighty race that ruled all.
Its commands activated detecting its hated enemy it tried its best but, it failed so they followed it, monitored it and it found its saviour. A man in a horrible situation one who had nearly turned into a virus of unimaginative scale. But he survived he thrived: as much as he could anyway.
The engine ran and Gaia answered the FILTH was destroyed one by one. Unfortunately the worst happened a entity that had never ever been seen by Gaia has appeared and let a crack appear in its mighty defense letting the FILTH through. Thankfully it repaired itself as soon as it appeared but the FILTH was on the sanctuary on the home of the ascended that could not be tolerated.
Gaia pushed itself to never seen heights, not seen the second crusade, the beast was weakened and weakened until Gaia could no longer affect the abomination. The survival of the ascended's race was now in the hands of a shockingly capable human someone who had access to abilities only available to its subsidiaries but this was ignored in favor of the literal plague incarnate the human was fighting.
Gaia saw and recorded the human was shockingly wining this was an expected outcome sure but they weren't being corrupted they were immune to the filth. That was improbable only the ruling ascended has abilities like this, as such Gaia made sure the human survived no matter the cost if he survived Gaia could finally receive maintenance and push back the FILTH.
After a grueling fight, for the human, the FILTH was eradicated and was once again erased by that mysterious being that punched a hole in Gaia's defenses while thankful for the help Gaia made sure to categories it as a class 10 entity unfortunately.
The human was a beacon of hope to Gaia a potential to bring back its creators bring back hope to the whole human race something that was sourly needed as such Gaia dragged forth its VIP capabilities and granted it to the human something that had never been done or achieved since the ascended created Gaia itself.
And so humanity was safe from the FILTH so far it still assaulted its once mighty defenses destroying Gaia piece by piece but Gaia held hope. Hope that humanity had a chance hope that its creators would return.
And the machine was right humanity was saved. A bit humanity was still in a perilous situation but our protagonist was a shining light in this depressing universe maybe they would stop the loop once and for all maybe they would guide humanity from its depths.
Or maybe they would destroy it ruining any chance this universe held of returning to its golden age. It remained to be seen
