Chapter 28: Chance Encounter

When Maverick snapped out of it, the sky outside had gradually darkened.

"Oh, didn't realize the time, it's already this late," Felicia said, looking somewhat surprised at the sky outside. She hadn't realized how fast time had flown.

After saying that, Felicia stood up to bid Maverick farewell. If she didn't return home soon, her mother would worry. She had decided to visit Maverick only at noon today, so she hadn't informed her mother beforehand.

"I'll walk you out, wait for me, I'll go get the car," Maverick said as he and Felicia walked out of the house and headed to the garage to get the car.

Felicia hadn't driven over today, and now that it was late, it wasn't safe for her to go home alone. Brooklyn might be bustling during the day, but it harbored many dangers at night, especially for single women.

After the car pulled out of the garage, Felicia opened the door and got in.

Watching Maverick skillfully maneuvering the car on the road, Felicia showed a keen interest.

Seeing her expression out of the corner of his eye, Maverick smiled and asked, "What's up? Is there something off about my driving?"

Hearing his question, Felicia shook her head and blinked, saying, "Nope, just feels like you're always holding back on the speed, even though subconsciously you want to drive faster."

"You noticed that?" Maverick was somewhat surprised by Felicia's observation. It indicated that she either had some knowledge about cars or had some interest in racing.

He chuckled and continued, "Didn't expect the meticulous science enthusiast Felicia to have such a hobby and interest."

Hearing Maverick's words, Felicia raised her chin playfully and retorted, "Aren't you the same? Who would have thought the seemingly calm and composed Maverick also enjoys racing?"

After saying that, they glanced at each other and couldn't help but laugh involuntarily.

The speeding car soon arrived in front of Felicia's house. After getting out of the car, Felicia waved happily to bid farewell to Maverick, then skipped over to startle a middle-aged woman with golden hair.

'That should be Mrs. Hardy,' Maverick thought to himself as he watched the scene from inside the car.

Felicia's mother, Anastasia Hardy, is a prominent philanthropist and businesswoman in New York City. The Hardy Foundation she founded wields considerable influence in both the business and political spheres.

It's precisely because of this family background that Felicia has grown up to be so outstanding.

In the words of Old York, she's an excellent woman, beautiful and well-mannered.

["You better seize the opportunity with such a beautiful and well-mannered girl, or you'll regret it later." Old York looked at Maverick, who was only focused on eating pizza and drinking cola, and educatively said with a hint of frustration.

Maverick, upon hearing this, just burped indifferently and waved his hand, saying, "Old man, you're thinking too much. We're just ordinary friends. Why do you make it sound so suspicious?"

It took Maverick a few tries to find the right word in his mind. He felt uncomfortable with Old York's purposeful way of making friends.]

"Hey, kid, what are you saying? I'm teaching you how to date," Old York said loudly, feeling a bit annoyed by Maverick's words. How could he say such things? He made himself sound like a creepy old man.

"You don't have a purpose, but do others around you not have one either?"

"You know, there aren't many outstanding girls around. I'm not telling you to directly start a relationship with them. I'm just asking you to pay more attention to such outstanding girls, so you won't end up regretting it when you finally realize it and find out they're already taken. See what you'll do then."

"Alright, alright, I get it. You're full of rhetoric. Why don't you find yourself a partner first?" Maverick retorted without backing down.

This speech enraged Old York. He instantly stood up to teach him a lesson. If Maverick hadn't run away quickly, his head would probably have swollen a bit.

Memories of the past flooded into Maverick's mind, and thinking about those scenes, he couldn't help but smile involuntarily.

After laughing, a hint of bitterness crept onto his lips.

"Sigh..."

Maverick sighed, looking up at the twinkling starry sky for a while without saying a word.

After a moment, he gathered his emotions and started the car to head home.

As he drove past the second intersection, under the red light on the opposite side, a large guy caught his eyes involuntarily.

With his extraordinary vision, he could clearly see the face of the man sitting in the driver's seat opposite him, the owner of this face who had caused him a series of pains.

"Harvey Hammond." Maverick's hands involuntarily tightened on the steering wheel, while the button on his cuff began to heat up and vibrate.

"How fortunate, this guy just appears right before us. I'm already eager to get close to him," Venom coalesced on Maverick's shoulder, staring eagerly at its next meal.

A few seconds later, the red light turned green. Maverick's car brushed past their car. After the traffic light, he executed a perfect drift and turned to follow Harvey Hammond, trailing him from a distance until the man's car stopped in front of a luxurious apartment building.

Maverick watched as Harvey got out of the car, then estimated the time it would take for him to enter the building and take the elevator. After comparing it with the lights on the entire building, he determined that his target probably lived on the 16th floor.

Parking his car in a deserted area, Maverick transformed into his black, stealthy form and silently climbed the building from the bottom.

Effortlessly scaling the wall, he stopped outside the 16th floor and observed from the window that wasn't yet covered by curtains.

The entire room had only Harvey inside. It was evident that he was quite confident in his abilities, as his henchmen from the car had been left downstairs on standby, not stationed outside the door.

This confidence was exactly what Maverick needed. With only Harvey in the room, many complications were eliminated. He just needed to control him properly and avoid alerting the others.
