Fire and Flames (906 words)

Fire, Lia always loved it. The heat it radiated, the smell of smoke and the white ash that remains once it died down.

Simply divine.

Her fascination only increased with time as her understanding increased and her fascination almost escalated to fanatism.

But her life ended abrupt as a car broke her fragile body and her consciousness swindled full of regrets.

'Why couldn't I burn to death? I wanted to go out in flames, maybe get shot into the sun and experience the pinnacle of fire with my own body, WHY DOES IT HAVE TO END LIKE THIS!!!'

Darkness swallows Lia's mind and all her thoughts drown under the heavy blanket of death.

Coldness embraces her causing her soul to shudder in fear and despair.

Lia fears the cold, it was the opposite of what she loved. Do not misunderstand, she doesn't hat the cold, no, she fears it.

For a long time her soul remained in this endless darkness surrounded by her greatest nightmare, till eventually warmth returned to her.

Slowly the cold released Lia's soul from its grip returning her to the warmth which she so desperately desired.

More time passes and the frozen mind remaining in Lia's soul starts to awake once more.

At first it was nothing more than pieces of memories, then some of her senses returned, feeding her weak mind with a constant stream of sweet, sweet feelings of warmth.

In this state of half-awake and half-asleep Lia spends some more time till a thought pierces her mind, jolting her mind wide awake.

'I CAN'T BREATHE!!'

Panicking, Lia desperately opens her mouth only to feel how a sticky liquid flows inside keeping her from breathing, the same problem hinders her nose.

In an attempt to free her mouth and nose, Lia moves her body.

First she tries to wipe her face free of whatever was blocking it, but it failed and she realizes that she was completely submerged in liquid.

'I NEED TO GET OUT OF HERE!'

Screaming in her mind Lia reaches out with her hands in search for something, and something she finds.

Walls.

Her entire body was inside an oddly shaped container filled with a sticky liquid.

Unable to find an opening in the container she found herself in Lia could only try to make one on her own.

Balling her hands into fists she smashes them against the wall in front of her with all the strength she could gather.

*Bam!*

Nothing happens.

*Bam!*

Still no change and by now Lia could feel her lungs burn in her chest.

*Bam!*

'Com'on you shitty wall!'

*Bam!*

'WHY!'

*Bam!*

'DON'T!!'

*Bam!*

'YOU!!!'

*Bam!*

'JUST!!!!'

*Bam!*

'BREAK!!!!!'

*CRACK!*

With her last punch a bright shining crack appears in front of her causing her to freeze up for an instant before the pain coming from her empty lungs ruthlessly pulls her pulls her back into the now.

Filled with hope and fueled by the desperate desire to life, Lia smashes her face into the crack.

The wall gave in, and her mouth and nose exit her prison.

Her nose wings flare as she greedily inhales the sweet oxygen form outside her prison.

It took her a good minute till she called down and the pain in her chest subsided.

Only then did she realize that something seems to be wrong with her face.

'Huh? How can I breathe if most of my head is still inside this prison?'

Unable to see because of the lack of light and liquid which future hinders her sight Lia could only wait with finding an answer till after she fully freed herself.

With that she went to work, taking a deep breathe she retracts her nose from the crack which now was more of hole after she rammed her face into it.

Using her two hands she starts to expand the hole till it was big enough for her to crawl through it.

"Freedom at last." Lia screams as she pulls even the last part of her body free.

Her eyes immediately wander over the black rock surrounding her before she slowly lowered her eyes and looks down on her two hands.

Clad in dark red scales with sharp claws on each of her five fingers they dig into the loose gravel formed form many black stones.

'What is going on!?' Lia swings her head around and inspects the rest of her body.

It only took her a short amount of time to realize what kind of body she currently possessed.

'Dragon, Im in the body of freaking dragon!' The truth made Lia almost stumble as she tries to wrap her head around her current situation.

'Calm down Lia, you need to calm down.' Taking deep breaths repeatedly she manages to organize her thoughts once more.

'Okay let's sum things up for now. I died because of a car accident and then everything went dark and cold,' An involuntary shudder shakes Lia's body as she remembers the cold which invaded her very soul that time. '-and then I awoke inside-' looking at her prison, understanding flashes through Lia's eyes '-inside a egg, a dragon egg to be precise.'

'I reincarnated as dragon. Yeah, that sums it up nicely.'

Before Lia could continue trying to understand her situation a rumbling sound resounds trough the surroundings.

'Welp, looks like im hungry, my questions can wait for later, First I need to fill this tummy of mine.'
