Chapter 10

The cab driver followed Matt's car for about 10 minutes but soon lost sight of the car. As he was navigating through moving traffic to find the car Daphne asked him to stop at the side of the road.

She got out of the cab gave him a huge tip and started walking towards the direction of her house.

"What's wrong with me, why would I care about what they're up to, I even followed them like some stalker,Daphne are you going crazy," she mumbled to herself.

When she got back home she was surprised to find her house empty, she was sure that Mira would be here by now. She called her phone but got no response, that's when she saw the trending news in Steel City.

And other headlines along the same line, she immediately headed to the Cy mansion but was intercepted at the entrance of her building by Imogen.

Wasn't she just with Ethan and Matt, Daphne thought.

"I need to tell you something Daphne," Imogen said but Daphne ignored her and tried to brush passed her but her hand was grabbed.

Daphne stared at the hand that held hers and roughly shrugged it away.

"You have quite the nerve to lay your hands on me, if you ever touch me again, Ethan would need to book an appointment with a prosthetist for you," Daphne threatened.

"No, we have to book an appointment obstetrician," she said with a sly smile. "Ethan doesn't know yet, I'm planning to surprise him, you're the first to know sis," she said laughing.

Daphne's face froze at the revelation, she did all she could not to show any change in her expression.

Then a memory of Ethan telling her he wanted to wait till marriage before he did anything with her flashed in her mind. Her eyelids felt heavy and she knew a tear was about to escape so she decided to leave.

As Daphne started walking away Imogen spoke from behind her. "It's about Mira she has been kidnapped," Imogen said casually.

Daphne turned to her almost immediately. "What did you say?" she asked.

"If you want to see her again then follow me," Imogen responded and started to walk out.

"How do I know you know where she is, maybe this is all a trap," Daphne asked.

Imogen stopped walking and responded, "Well, I know she's not taking your calls"

"That doesn't mean anything, she's probably busy with her brother's disappearance," Daphne retorted.

"Fine," Imogen said as she took out her phone and showed her pictures of Mira tied to a chair, her hair was messy and all over her face and she had many cuts and bruises.

Daphne looked at the pictures suspiciously, she felt something was amiss but before she could look any closer at the picture, Imogen pulled the phone away.

"If you ever want to see her again be a good little girl and get in the car," Imogen said getting pissed.

"Wait," Daphne said to Imogen. "I need to make a quick call, it's not to the police"

"I don't care Daphne, just know if anyone else gets involved, your friend won't make it out of this kidnap alive," Imogen responded.

Daphne went to a corner and called Beatrice, she was Mira's favorite maid in the Cy family and they were good friends because they were almost the same age. The phone rang for some time before the call finally got connected.

"Good day Miss Daphne is there a problem," Beatrice asked.

"No, I heard Quinn disappeared and was worried about Mira, I can't seem to reach her, can you pass her the phone," Daphne asked feeling a but hopeful.

"Miss Mira is not home at the moment, she went to pick up her dad," Beatrice replied.

"How long has she been out," Daphne asked feeling troubled. Maybe the girl in the picture is Mira, she thought to herself.

"It's been over an hour and she was meant to be back 30 minutes ago,"Beatrice replied. "Is there anything else you'd like to know because I have to get back to work," she asked politely.

"Yes," Daphne said. She felt her heart palpitate as she asked Beatrice her final question.

"What was the color of her dress," Daphne asked.

"Purple and black Miss," Beatrice responded.

"Thank you for your time, Beatrice," Daphne said in a shaky voice and ended the call. Those monsters did kidnap Mira.

She walked back to Imogen and got into the car silently. "If I follow you, you must let her go," Daphne said.

"Sure, I need you not her anyway," Imogen responded.

" I should have followed Matt's car," she said to herself sighing.

The ride continued in silence and after a while, they had reached a quiet part of Steel City and Daphne had already started to rethink her decision, she had a feeling that something bad was about to happen.
