Part 23: Work

Caroline's POV

I woke up early in the morning to et ready for the job at the library.

I did my morning routine and sent Bruno to the convent with Brother Harvey. He wished me good luck and I went to the terminal. I took the bus going to the next town and felt a chill rush down my spine when I remembered Joey.

I'll do everything in my power to avoid him. I took a mask from my bag and put it on along with some dark shades and a hoodie. I wore a red t-shirt and white jeans that Miss Olivia sent to me late at night.

I arrive at the library safely and went inside, clocked in, and headed to my desk which is inside Kosair's office.

Before I could reach the office door's I took off the shades, the hoodie, and the mask. "Ah, safe at last."

I went inside the office which has a grey and black motif. The furniture was all modern and the decorations look like they cost more than my life. I immediately recognized my desk which is a few meters away from Kosair's.

I put my bag and looked at the papers that were stacked on my desk. I scanned them and saw some ID pictures of men and some information about them like their personal background. I set the papers down and start to redo my hair but something caught up to me.

I returned to my desk and looked at the title of the folder.

"Debtors...Kill List." I read under my breath.

I hear the office door open and Kosair came in with a smile on his face.

"Good morning, Caroline." He greeted me happily but he froze when he realized what I was reading.

I swallowed all the things that I want to ask him and shut out all the thoughts that were running through my head. I walked over to him and handed him the folder. "You misplaced this." I said and patted his shoulder before leaving the room.

When I got out, Miss Olivia comes running to my direction with a folder in her hand that looked similar to the folder that continued the kill list.

"Good morning, Miss Olivia. In a hurry early in the morning?" I asked her with a polite smile. Then, Kosair came out of the office with a worried expression on his face.

She slapped her head and cursed under her breath. "I messed up. I was supposed to give you this folder." Miss Olivia gave me the folder. I opened it and it contained the list of the books and trinkets that need cleaning, renewal, and repainting. "Instead of..." She sighed. "Give me the folder, Kosair."

Kosair handed Miss Olivia the folder. "This was supposed to be delivered to your father's office. I mixed them up."

I shook my head. I'm trying to be open-minded about their family's businesses. They gave me a job and I'm still not fired after reading about that folder and knowing their hidden agenda.

Miss Olivia has been nothing but sweet, kind, and generous to me, and Kosair is a sweetheart who has done nothing wrong. I have no right to judge them or be angry for no reason.

"I'm sorry you had to read that." Miss Olivia looked at me sadly but I shook my head.

"It's alright, Miss Olivia. I've just started to understand why you do have a kill list." I stated. I face her and Kosair. "I trust you guys and I know that you're both good people and even Sir Krum...who I haven't met yet." I said nervously. I'm getting ahead of myself but it was a good shot of explaining to them that I don't think of them badly or speak ill of them.

I jumped as I felt a hand tap my shoulder.

"Well, that is kind of you to say."
