Chapter 5

Lance folded his arms around his chest and leaned back in his seat observing the way that the kid was driving and thinking about where he could be taking him, "Where we going?"

Ian glanced at the rearview mirror smirked at the serious Lance behind him and pulled up in a secure alley near his school, with that he took off his seatbelt and climbed into the back seat directly from the front.

"First of all, I think it's enough to reveal my identity to you, I don't want to deal with your other colleagues."

Lance looked at the boy beside him wondering if what his words implicated something or if he was overthinking it.

"Don't burst your blood vessels thinking too much, I'm Dr.S"

Even he had already guessed his identity the probability of it being untrue was still there, hearing Ian say exactly what he was pondering over and hearing a positive answer surprised Lance. To think the famous criminal psychologist in their police department was merely eighteen years old.

"Let's talk about the case then." Lance looked at Ian and said.

"Damn you're such a workaholic. My brain doesn't work when I'm hungry I don't remember anything."

Lance twitched his lips, just a second ago he was in awe of the kid having such a feat but a second later he destroyed his own image. It couldn't help but make Lance ponder just what had the kid gone through? He came to be known four years ago, four years ago Ian was just fourteen. Just what the heck happened?

Ian seeing the lack of response from his upcoming partner decoded to wait for him to finish his thoughts and thought back about how much things had changed for him in the last eight years. Nothing had been the same ever since that day.

"Though I'm sure you're already investigating my past and background I'd appreciate if you don't dig deeper with your connections to the police. As for talking about the case I'll take you somewhere else."

With that Ian went back to the driver's seat and quietly drove to the library sneaking glances at Lance from the rearview mirror. After they reached the library Ian said sternly,

"Follow me."

It seems like his business mode got turned on thought Lance. Lance nodded and followed after him. Ian took Lance inside the library and after reaching a dark corner, pulled out a book leading to a makeshift wall shifting like a door.

"Come in." Ian glanced at Lance with a dark look in his eyes, completely different from the carefree and mischief he was doing before.

"Don't you dare spout nonsense anywhere and this is an off-limit area, even to the police they dare not enter."

Lance looked at the dangerous aura surrounding the kid and stretched out his hand to rub his head. Feeling the hand behind him, Ian swiftly turned around and grabbed his wrist, "Stop."

Lance glanced at the hand that grabbed his wrist and immediately pulled his wrist out of Ian's hold and looked deep into his violet eyes.

Violet.

Such a mysterious colour and that hunter aura that the kid held had always fascinated him how can such a person exist. Thinking of what could the kid have gone through in order to live this way, made his heart hurt. Ian looked pale and skinny against the light shining in the room why didn't he notice it before? While his eyes reminded him of the royalty and mystery, his dark locks were like silk tempting him to run his hand through his hair and feel them against his fingers. He was appalled at how tempting this seemed to him.

Cough-cough.

The consecutive untimely coughs broke him out of his thoughts. Damn. Why? Why is he so easily influenced by a kid.

"Let me start with the details and the M.O. of the murderer. I haven't yet come to the conclusion of how the victims are chosen, but as far as I know there have been nine murders in total."

"Nine?" Lance couldn't help but be startled but the glare Ian sent him made him burst into laughter, was the kid trying to intimidate him? He looked like an angry cat.

"Shut up and listen. Five of them are past victims, they happened in different parts of the country and haven't been claimed as a part of the serial murder."

"Why?"

"Apparently the murderers were caught."

"Why do you call it a serial murder when they were all caught?"

"Because they all died while serving their time in prison, if it was one or two I'd call it a coincidence but all five of those died and coincidentally their faces had been completely destroyed."

"Destroyed? Doesn't that make it a new case in itself?"

Ian sighed, "To be honest I know so much about these cause I'm deliberately tracking it down but these case happened in different regions and the way they dies…"

"What about it?" Lance asked while contemplating Ian's words.

"The first one fell down the stairs and smashed his face, the second one had sulphuric acid thrown on his face by the family of the victim, the third one died in an accident while being transported, the forth one got burnt in a short circuit incident at the police station while the fifth one smashed his face on the wall repeatedly till he died."

Lance's eyes were wide with shock, to think the beautiful child in front of him had investigated the situation they had not even thought of made him proud. Something about Ian just warmed his heart and made him want to pamper him to no limit.

"This tells me that the suspect who killed these people is either someone with deep obsession towards the victims or is the person who is behind the serial murders itself if that is the case this becomes even more serious cause nine victims and nine 'killers', the number of victims becomes eighteen. Thankfully the four other 'killers' are on loose. I need to look more into it to get a detailed idea of the criminal."

Ian nodded at Lance got up and handed him the data he had collected.

"I'll visit the police station to cooperate with you on the weekends."
